Every song you make is phenomenal and they keep getting better! I love the slower feel of this and how it contrasts your previous releases. And the high notes are all gorgeous! Also, the lyricism is really good, especially on the chorus, which are usually really repetitive in a lot of songs, but not in this one. (Sorry if I’ve already said this before but) I’d love a collab between you and CG5 some day if he ever decides to start writing Life Series or Hermitcraft songs. Your voices would complement eachother so well.
A fellow Gideon here. Just decided to look up my name and found your channel. Love it man! Watch Hermit Craft stuff pretty often.... so this is awesome! Keep it up!
This randomly came up on my recommended at work and made me laugh. What an amazing song. Genuinely very clever lyrics and the note progression is beautiful.
Hey I know you have started on season ten songs as evidenced by this song but could I request you make a cleaning lady song about the cleaning lady season 9 that can get people in the mood to sort out their storage systems please I ask you ask I love your music and it gets really in my mind thank you for making these would love it if you did this thanks
Okay, it's time for me to analyze this song in insanely high detail. Cuz Gideon, you've somehow done it again! Every time you release new music, you reach some sort of new height and I always think there's no way you can surpass it next time. But you do, I don't know how, but you do. This song is genius, and just today I've shown it to two of my friends at school. Even though they aren't into Hermitcraft or anything. I just needed them to hear it. Anyways. Time to rant about how good your song is and why ,for the next 30 minutes. When the song opened on this mysterious piano tune, I was immediately hooked (haha, see what I did there?). There's also this deep sound in the background, which compliments it greatly. It fits this oceanic theme so well, therefore it already sets the tone right at the beginning. Our main character has been out at sea for who knows how long, and yet he still hasn't discovered everything. There's still mysteries to uncover: such as when he'll finally acquire the legendary mending book... The opening line also helps estabilish the tone really well. "The ocean calls me", still accompanied by the mysterious piano tune. I also want to point out how the piano tune doesn't go away throughout the song, but it doesn't keep playing at all times either. It kinda just lurks in the background, always reminding you of the mysteries that our protagonist is yet to discover... And one more thing, I really love how there's an obvious improvement in how your songs' intros. I've said before that I think in general, it's the weakest area of your songs. But "Can you keep your secret?" and this one both have just, absolutely excellent intros. It brings you into the world of the song right away. You immediately get immersed. Such a masterpiece. "Forever searching, for what is mine" Such a great choice to have the background music amplify during this line. The "iiiing" part of the line is held out for longer too, and these two details together really make the idea of this endless search impactful. These aren't just words you hear, the song makes you feel exactly what our protagonist does in this moment. I also love how the words start being more... echo-y? Sorry, I don't know musical terms. It's just different, and it really makes you feel the tonal shift. "I checked the rules, what goes to you is what I loose when you pull the line" I had to point this out. This is such a creative way of saying what Grian explained about how fishing works on a server. It rhymes, it's perfect for the song, just MAN. I want to congratulate you on this. It's really good. "What are the odds, swimming in cod [...]" I love how the song slows done again, representing the constant shifts of our protagonist's mood during this long adventure. He's going crazy in a sense. Feeling upbeat in one moment, and feeling down in the next. "All I want to say I've caught just one drop" As the vocals become more echo-y and the background music starts ramping up, you know what's coming: it's the main chorus. But hold on now... It's not at all what you expect... "Just on that hook, I get a mending book" OH MY GODNESS GIDEON OH MY GHHZ76TFGHUZ7ATTGU8 okay, calm down... deep breaths... Today I've been singing and dancing to this chorus throughout the whole day. On the way to school, at school, on the way back home, at home. And I'm 18, if my classmates noticed they definitely thought I was an idiot or something. But it's so great, it's been stuck in my head and I can't get it out - not that I want to anyways. Alright, so I love how the song goes in a completely different direction that what you'd expect. After the build-up, the song goes into this relatively slow, mysterious, really ocean-y water-y vibe. But what you hear first is the higher-pitched "hook", which immediately lets you know: oh man, something's totally different here. I've also noticed this sound right before the "hook", that sounds like it's a drop of water reaching the ground or something (also it's such a nice touch how the mending book is visually empathized too!). AND GOSH the background music!!!! You somehow perfectly captured the feeling of being at sea. You notice the waves going through the ocean, as the endless sight of water calms you down. It's perfect, and I love that we get to hear only the instrumentals of this part at the end of the song!! This part achieves something phenomenal. It's so calming and mysterious at the same time. You anticipate the next step on the protagonist's journey, but you also reach a sense of rest. Sometimes you just need a break along the adventure, and you need some time to look at the waves of the sea, pondering about life and how you got here. Also, although I only quoted the beginning of the chorus, the whole thing is insanely catchy. But I think I've already expressed this with the story of my lil' shenanigans today. "To get the mending book, ah-ah, to get the mending book, ah-ah (ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta) My book was stolen [...]" I love these background vocals leading up to "My book was stolen", it always feels so exciting whenever that part comes on. Plus, similar to "Forever searching", it makes sure that "Mbws" has a bigger impact. I also love how this line comes straight after "tgtmb", it's a nice way to play around with the lyrics. Great job! "[...] the darkest crime" I think what you truly excel it is adding more and more tiny details in the background music of your songs - and this one is no exception. I'd like to point out the humming after this line. "It left a scar across my heart, It took a toll, it left a mark, Tormented mind" Another small detail is how some words just get echoed!? And I'm not sure if I'm hearing this right but are they also switching between left and right? Either way, I just noticed this, and I'm so glad for it, cuz it's another one I can put onto the list. "[lead up to the 2nd time the main chorus is played]" Again, more nice touches along the way: the humming throughout this part. It goes together with the background music of the main chorus so well. This time, the build-up isn't as noticeable because of the humming: our protagonist has spent a very long time at sea at this point. The calming sounds of the sea have gotten into each crack (haha is that a reference?) of his waking moments. Is this a sign of going crazy? Or is it actually peaceful? Only he knows... "When all is said and done, and the ocean's won (la-la-la) I'll have one more look" More tiny details! Previously, the tune of this "la-la-la" was a similar sound to what I'd call "the sound of the ocean" in the background music. But now, it's turned into a human voice, further making you feel the soothing sensations of the sea. "Although the chance is slim, I know that deep within, I'm on that final push" I caught it! (haha more puns) I've noticed this really quiet high-pitched voice in the background during this part, but I couldn't tell if it was actually there or if I was imagining it, it was so quiet. But now I caught it! It's such a really small detail, that I guarantee you 99% of people will miss, but it's there!. GOSH this is why I love your music! So many little things that together, improve the song so much! "I built a temple a shrine to help below the dock the rocks and kelp follow the lines beneath my eyes to straighter vision toward the prize I banned the others from this spot jealousy corners every thought but it must all not be enough not be enough not be enough" This part is a really great bridge between the previous and the final main chorus, but what I especially love is when this part gets repeated, but now the previous build-up is playing at the same time too! It's somehow so unsettling, yet so calming? This endless search is really making our protagonist go mad, so much so that his thoughts are getting jumbled up into a mess. "[...] for that hook" I can't really explain what I feel when "for that hook" plays. But somehow you managed to end the previous part in a way, that it feels like it all comes together to form this one thought. Like somehow all of those previous thoughts were leading up to this one. Thus it's somehow calming yet again, when you feel like our protagonist reached a quiet point in his thoughts. He came to a conclusion: despite getting crazier by the second, despite the length of the search, he'll continue "to get a mending book" da-da-daa-da-daa-duh-duuh WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE AND THE OCEAN'S WON (LA-LA-LA) I'LL HAVE ONE MORE LOOK DA-DA-DAA-DA-DAA-DUH-DUUH and hope on that HOOK DA-DA-DAAA I GET A MENDING BOOK DA-DA-DAA-DA-DAA-DUH-DUUH OH THOUGH THE CHANCE IS SLIM I KNOW THAT DEEP WITHIN I'M ON THAT FINAL PUSH DA-DA-DAA-DA-DAA-DUH-DUUH to get a mending book And as I've said it already, I love this instrumental part. I love that we get to hear this AMAZING background music just alone as well. I also love that you kept the "la-la-la" AND the way it ends with this techno-y winding down sound. Gideon. You've made a masterpiece again, so much so that I had to literally analyze the full song to truly express my amazement by your work. Keep up the great work, as always. Thanks for one of the next songs that I'm gonna be listening to all the time - and it'll certainly become one of my most listened to when eventually the yearly YT Music recap comes out. Lyrics:
the ocean calls me
that salty air
I cast my hook into the water
not a book, another bottle
waves are taunting
who says I care
forever searching
for what is mine
I checked the rules
what goes to you
Is what I loose
when you pull the line
what are the odds
swimming in cod
If I could fish for a wish
with it I’d save the time I’ve lost
all I want
to say I’ve caught
just one drop
just on that hook
I get a mending book
when all is said and done
and the ocean’s won
I’ll have one more look
and hope on that hook
I get a mending book
and though the chance is slim
I know that deep within
I’m on that final push
to get a mending book
my book was stolen
the darkest crime
it left a scar across my heart
it took a toll
it left a mark
tormented mind
what are the odds
swimming in cod
if I could fish for a wish
with it I’d save the time I’ve lost
all I want
to say I’ve caught
just one drop
just on that hook
I get a mending book
when all is said and done
and the ocean’s won
I’ll have one more look
and hope on that hook
I get a mending book
oh though the chance is slim
I know that deep within
I’m on that final push
to get
I built a temple a shrine to help
below the dock the rocks and kelp
follow the lines beneath my eyes
to straighter vision toward the prize
I banned the others from this spot
jealousy corners every thought
but it must all not be enough
not be enough not be enough
I built a temple a shrine to help
below the dock the rocks and kelp
follow the lines beneath my eyes
to straighter vision toward the prize
I banned the others from this spot
jealousy corners every thought
but it must all not be enough
not be enough not be enough
for that hook
to get a mending book
when all is said and done
and the ocean’s won
I’ll have one more look
and hope on that hook
I get a mending book
oh though the chance is slim
I know that deep within
I’m on that final push
to get a mending book

I love how Scar gets all the blame when Pearl fished up 3-4 books before Scar ever did.😅
Yeah, but she was very lucky to never actually *tell* Grian that. XD
Also i think she fished up those books before he learned that it was a shared loot pool.
I think he literally just told them about the shared loot and then scar fished it.
Yeah he explained it and everyone started fishing suddenly and scar quickly got a mending book first try after the explanation.
3-4?! Serious luck.

I love the song, I like the growth in your music lately, the layered vocals was a great addition to this song.
Avada CODavra
That slight anticipation delay before you sing "hook" is delightful
We gettin out da lake with dis one
this song reeled me in with a catchy hook
Every song you make is phenomenal and they keep getting better! I love the slower feel of this and how it contrasts your previous releases. And the high notes are all gorgeous! Also, the lyricism is really good, especially on the chorus, which are usually really repetitive in a lot of songs, but not in this one. (Sorry if I’ve already said this before but) I’d love a collab between you and CG5 some day if he ever decides to start writing Life Series or Hermitcraft songs. Your voices would complement eachother so well.
Relatable
A fellow Gideon here. Just decided to look up my name and found your channel. Love it man! Watch Hermit Craft stuff pretty often.... so this is awesome! Keep it up!
This randomly came up on my recommended at work and made me laugh. What an amazing song. Genuinely very clever lyrics and the note progression is beautiful.
The lyrics are fantastic
Gideon, I’m pretty sure this is your best work yet!! It even tops the Buttercups and Fun for You! Keep up the amazing work!!😁👍
Hey I know you have started on season ten songs as evidenced by this song but could I request you make a cleaning lady song about the cleaning lady season 9 that can get people in the mood to sort out their storage systems please I ask you ask I love your music and it gets really in my mind thank you for making these would love it if you did this thanks
Grian NEEDS to see this.
The piano line is so eerie!! I’m going insane about this and the water sounds and the lyrics :0000
I like the hook.
I love this Hermitcraft song because it's so awesome!!!
you cant even have heard it yet?
"Forever searching, for what is mine"
Such a great choice to have the background music amplify during this line.
"I checked the rules, what goes to you is what I loose when you pull the line"
I had to point this out. This is such a creative way of saying what Grian explained about how fishing works on a server. It rhymes, it's perfect for the song, just MAN. I want to congratulate you on this. It's really good.
"What are the odds, swimming in cod [...]"
I love how the song slows done again, representing the constant shifts of our protagonist's mood during this long adventure. He's going crazy in a sense. Feeling upbeat in one moment, and feeling down in the next.
"All I want to say I've caught just one drop"
As the vocals become more echo-y and the background music starts ramping up, you know what's coming: it's the main chorus. But hold on now... It's not at all what you expect...
"Just on that hook, I get a mending book"
OH MY GODNESS GIDEON OH MY GHHZ76TFGHUZ7ATTGU8
okay, calm down... deep breaths...
"To get the mending book, ah-ah,
to get the mending book, ah-ah (ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta)
My book was stolen [...]"
I love these background vocals leading up to "My book was stolen", it always feels so exciting whenever that part comes on. Plus, similar to "Forever searching", it makes sure that "Mbws" has a bigger impact. I also love how this line comes straight after "tgtmb", it's a nice way to play around with the lyrics. Great job!
"[...] the darkest crime"
I think what you truly excel it is adding more and more tiny details in the background music of your songs - and this one is no exception. I'd like to point out the humming after this line.
"It left a scar across my heart,
It took a toll, it left a mark,
Tormented mind"
Another small detail is how some words just get echoed!? And I'm not sure if I'm hearing this right but are they also switching between left and right? Either way, I just noticed this, and I'm so glad for it, cuz it's another one I can put onto the list.
"[lead up to the 2nd time the main chorus is played]"
Again, more nice touches along the way: the humming throughout this part.
"When all is said and done, and the ocean's won (la-la-la)
I'll have one more look"
More tiny details! Previously, the tune of this "la-la-la" was a similar sound to what I'd call "the sound of the ocean" in the background music. But now, it's turned into a human voice, further making you feel the soothing sensations of the sea.
"Although the chance is slim, I know that deep within, I'm on that final push"
I caught it!
"I built a temple a shrine to help
below the dock the rocks and kelp
follow the lines beneath my eyes
to straighter vision toward the prize
I banned the others from this spot
jealousy corners every thought
but it must all not be enough
not be enough not be enough"
This part is a really great bridge between the previous and the final main chorus, but what I especially love is when this part gets repeated, but now the previous build-up is playing at the same time too! It's somehow so unsettling, yet so calming? This endless search is really making our protagonist go mad, so much so that his thoughts are getting jumbled up into a mess.
"[...] for that hook"
I can't really explain what I feel when "for that hook" plays. But somehow you managed to end the previous part in a way, that it feels like it all comes together to form this one thought. Like somehow all of those previous thoughts were leading up to this one. Thus it's somehow calming yet again, when you feel like our protagonist reached a quiet point in his thoughts. He came to a conclusion: despite getting crazier by the second, despite the length of the search, he'll continue "to get a mending book" da-da-daa-da-daa-duh-duuh
WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE
AND THE OCEAN'S WON (LA-LA-LA)
I'LL HAVE ONE MORE LOOK
DA-DA-DAA-DA-DAA-DUH-DUUH
and hope on that HOOK
DA-DA-DAAA
I GET A MENDING BOOK
DA-DA-DAA-DA-DAA-DUH-DUUH
OH THOUGH THE CHANCE IS SLIM
I KNOW THAT DEEP WITHIN
I'M ON THAT FINAL PUSH
DA-DA-DAA-DA-DAA-DUH-DUUH
to get a mending book
And as I've said it already, I love this instrumental part.
I can't wait to see what you've got cooking next. Take care, man...
This is dedication man, I feel like I need to step up my comment game!
Incredible song! So soooo good. Well done Gideon!
I can't wait for spotify, I appreciate all of these lyrically playful and so well thought out minecraft series inspired songs. You're so talented and you inspire me to possibly make a singing channel of my own one day since it is my most practiced hobby. Keep up the great work Gid!
the little piano riff sounds a lot like the celeste song
It hasn't been long enough to hear it all, but I know it's fire all the way through
Ya know, I wasn't sure about this song at first, but I ended up listening to it on repeat on my way to work this morning and now and it's been stuck in my head all day. It's really growing on me.
MAXX ART YIPPEE!!!! HYPED FOR THIS!!
This goes way harder than it should
