What if the blighted mirror that the dalish warden finds is connected to Arlathan? Tamlen describes a buried city on the other side. This could also fit into the theory that the Golden city is Arlathan and how part of it was cast into the fade when Solas created the veil because it had the blight. It would explain why the mirror was blighted if it were connected to Arlathan.
I think Merrill's eluvian is clearly evidence that there is much more to Lord Woolsley than we've anticipated. I'm watching you goat ( 👁👁) Biggest twist in DA4: Lord Woolsley takes control of the eluvians from Solas because he's been the actual true mastermind all along...
Well apparently Lord Woolsley is in fact a spirit/demon. Never had this happen to me while playing but according to the wiki you can somehow end up in a battle with him
@@Felsenkeks yeah...he turns into a rage demon. Its really easy to do. Get the quest from redcliff guy....find lord woolsley and instead of taljing to him you attack. Golden ram woolsley changes and you fight him.
doesnt solas (or morrigan) say in tresspasser, that the reason for the floating ruins, is that buildings in the old elven empire used to stretch from the earth into the fade and that they crumbled because of the erection of the veil? so the way i interpreted that was that before the veil, the different crossroads, the fade and the real world used to be one inseparable reality, but occupying different altitudes. so maybe when he erected the veil, he simultaneously (unintentional/or intentional, for all i know) split the different levels into separate dimensions, to make them harder for one person to control. maybe the buildings stretched from the earth, through the crossroadss and into the fade, sort of just imagining that the city of arlathan was made out off different parts floating independently above and below each other, rather than being connected directly as our world is physicaly limited to, and that eluvians were used to move between independent floating buildings.
People tend to think that the place you see through the Eluvian from the Dalish Elf origin is a part of Arlathan that was sunk? Couldn't it be possible that it's just an eluvian in the deep roads in an ancient elven lyrium processing plant? Or inside a titan? We went into these ancient lyrium mines through Eluvians in trespasser. Maybe even a blighted lyrium mine? I just don't see how a "dark city" underground automatically means Arlathan when we've literally been through eluvians that take us to the deep roads
I had no freaking idea the Crossroads in Trespasser look different per your race O_____O As for the Merrill's Eluvian stuff, perhaps the ram was meant to be a Halla but someone screwed up and no one got around to fixing it. Also, assuming they meant to spread that Eluvian design around (as in, not just to reuse resources out of laziness or file size restraints), maybe that's one type of Eluvian, specifically for talking through, not entering, hence the barring branch. It could also explain why they're so rare; supposedly Tevinter only knows of ones used to talk through, not enter. Maybe they've got all the 'Merrill Eluvians' while they've never found one of the types we have. One last thing: it seems - at least, from what Morrigan tells us - that the Eluvians are 'programmed' to connect to one another. She brought her mirror from Orlais to Skyhold, and while this is a big assumption, she didn't appear to do anything to 'reprogram' it after the distance change. Hence, another note on your Nether Portal comparison; Eluvians seem to stay connected even after being moved great distances, unlike the former. Maybe that's, again, just one type of Eluvian that can do that, we don't know. It brings up even more questions, to say the least, but I suppose we can't go much further into the topic at all until DA4 comes out.
Tin foil hat crack theory for the frame of the mirrors. They're doorways to the parts of the fade/void where the Evanuris and Forgotten Ones were specifically imprisoned. They each have their own "cell" in the fade/void. You don't want to lock them up together because then they'll be able to ban together to break out. On their own, they have less power. Anyway, those designs that cross the frame over keep it locked. You can't use the door if it's barred on the other side. Spirits or demons could move through if a host is available or summoned since they don't have solid forms, but the Evanuris and Forgotten Ones, being living, physical beings-if they've survived this long-can't physically get out. The frame is magically locking the door, and no one but Solas would have the key, whatever that key is. It's such a stretch that you're gonna pull something, but it would be a fun little explanation for why there are multiple mirrors and why they're all barred and inactive, even if they're complete.
My theory on why the walk way is different is because Solas began his work to tear down the veil and since his start bits of the fade are pouring in it. Thus, we go from grassy walk way to floating islands that look fade like.
I always thought Merrill just salvaged an existing frame from a normal mirror to repair/grow her Eluvian. She couldn't have brought it on the boat and she didn't drag a frame down from Sundermount, so I guess I assumed she went dumpster diving for some sort of frame to stick her bag of shards in. Since her clan thought they were for communication she wouldn't have considered that she would need to be able to step through it when assembling it.
The ram could be a halla as a dalish invocation of Ghilinan considering she guides the elves home, they mention warriors putting her 8mage on their shields to make sure they come back. The tree stuff too makes it seem dalish, maybe its Merrills design. Most likely design inconsistency though
my interpretation was that the eluvian simply lead to a place that was overtaken by the blight, such that contact with it would taint the user. I still reckon that specific eluvian lead to somewhere in Arlathan (aka the Black City if you subscribe to that theory), which would line up with it being so blight-y.
Is it ever confirmed how the Qunari get the Eluvians? Sure, they might have found some in Par Vollen or Saheron (or from battles with the Tevienter Imperium), but that doesn't explain how they got Eluvians in massive quantities. Briala, Morrigan, and Merrill all had one or a small amount of them. In Tresspasser, you pass through SO many Eluvians (which I assume were collected by the Qunari or Solas had activated them). Then that brings the question as to why Solas would activate them? Did he need to see where each Eluvian went? Or was it really the Qunari who collected and activated all of them, and how long did it take for them to do that? These are just some thoughts and questions that I hoped are answered in the next game!
Weird though probably dismissible but, considering that Morrigan suggested that the crossroads are close to the veil, is it possible that Solas will somehow exploit this to tear down the veil?
I'm so glad you finally have done an Eluvian Lore video because I have been thinking about The Masked Empire a lot lately, specifically the room of skeletons- I think this is one of the consequences of Solas creating the Veil; he left a lot of elves to die. Honestly I hope Briala gets to be a big player in DA4 because I think it would make sense for her to side with Solas if she survives Inquisition.
Thank You so much for this video! I requested a video on Eluvians a while back, so I super happy that you decided to make one! The transportation of eluvians (specifically Morrigan’s) is something that I wonder about? How does she transport such a large device all the way to Skyhold? (not to mention keeping it secret while she was a member of Celene’s court) I like to imagine that Eluvians can be magically shrunk down into little hand mirrors for travel purposes, and can then magically grown back to full size once they reach a set location. 😁
At least in transport- she's in the Last Court with that same eluvian, and it talks about her traveling with it in a wagon! So it could have been that she just brought it on a wagon. It's not like anyone searching her things would know what it was. Which, is very in character, honestly, haha.
How is it that Duncan could smash Merrill's mirror (before it was Merrill's mirror) and not get devastatingly sick? Was it because he was already a Grey Warden and had the taint so the infected mirror didn't harm him? You know who needs a Character profile video, by the way? Duncan. We
DA Eluvians look a lot like the mirrors in Elder scrolls. They also transport 'people' and have a similar place like the crossroads. It's kinda neat to think that one of the Devs played Elderscrolls and thought hey we could do something like this. Merrils mirror also looks like the mirror in the black emporium in DA2..so there could be multiple mirrors that look like this.
Since Solas has become incredibly powerful after stealing power from Flemeth, I believe that to defeat Solas in DA4 isn't to find a way to become as powerful as him, but to weaken him to our level instead. I think cutting off his control of the eluvians is one of the ways we will do this, probably being one of the central points/levels in DA4.
Could it be that the ram is actually meant to be a deer, and the Eluvian that Merill has could be connected to one of Ghilan'nain's monster workshops? That would explain why they made it hard to walk through, and why it appears unsettling.
I can't find the tweet just now, but I'm certain I saw one of the devs of DA2/DAI some years back mention that Merrill's mirror isn't a reassembled version of what we saw in DAO, but something new that's been *regrown* from the fragments. The regrown part could explain why the frame seems so weird and impractical; if that was grown too then perhaps it's misshapen since Merrill never did manage to fix it properly. As for how the one in the crossroads looks the same: maybe that's just how eluvians work. What happens to one mirror, happens to it's twin. Or, maybe they're the same object split across two "dimensions" (for lack of a better term.) Indeed, that may be partly why Merrill never got it work right: the half of it that was in the crossroads was still broken or tainted and needed to be repaired/purified on both sides. (side note: didn't Merril say she removed the taint with blood magic? Seems like it might be another link back to the origins of the warden's joining ritual perhaps?) As for that same frame cropping up elsewhere in Thedas: I'm willing to write that off as just simple asset reuse. A few other details that jump out at me: - 1) They can be infected by the blight, so they're somehow *alive*. This could just be a result of them being enchanted objects made from lyrium of course, but outside of objects intentionally imbued with red lyrium, I'm not sure that we've ever seen such an enchanted object *contract* the blight before. 2) Probably stating the obvious but I think it's a fair bet that whatever magic/technology keeps the crossroads separated from the fade, it's the same thing that Solas re-purposed when he built the veil. 3) It seems logical that the elves depending on the eluvians to get around over long distances instead of roads was a result of them having to co-exist in a world where the Titans still roamed. One imagines the passage of one of those things could radically alter a landscape and destroy any unprotected structures in their path. P.S. Simple solution to the problem of mirrors in 'Trespasser' seemingly bypassing the crossroads: what if the Qunari simply moved some of the mirrors in the network up against each other so that as you step out of one, you're immediately stepping into the other making the transit feel instantaneous?
@@GhilDirthalen I had a quick search for it myself on the assumption that it was either from Weekes or Gaider but came up empty. So it's either someone else, not on twitter at all (if it was the old Bioware social forums, then I'm sunk!), or my google-fu just sucks! ;) I think the reason this idea stuck in my mind all these years is that it just made so much more sense than "Merrill has been lugging that huge frame around all over Thedas" I mean if all Merrill took from those ruins were a few broken shards, then she could easily have it on her when....ah! Memory strikes mid-typing. (better late than never, brain!) The tweet/post/wherever I read this had to do with what Merril was doing when Hawke first walked up to her on Sundermount: she was hunched over fiddling with the tainted shard she'd kept from DAO. You can even see it glowing and hear it ringing before she puts it away. That's what she carried back to Kirkwall with her and used to (partially?) regrow it in her hovel.
An amazing cinematic that would look so good would be Silas Chasing Morrigan through the Eluvians as a wolf and her jumping in and out of different doors flicking to and from different animal forms
I'd never even considered ripping from DA, but now that I think about it it's a brilliant idea. Definitely gonna borrow some of this for my next campaign
Jennifer Herron There actually is a DA D&D core rulebook, it uses a different dice system of 3D6s and it has TONS of helpful advice and enemies! I highly recommend buying it before starting your campaign. :)
calling it now. if there is any equivalent to closing rifts in dragon age 4, it will be sealing eluvians. it fits well as a side goal thing. lorewise, works for being valuable to the BBEG's plots and limited in number presumably; and gameplay wise, having to fight waves of enemies coming out of the mirror to break/seal it has a good play extension/challenge value. it could even be an additional choice mechanic. you could choose to simply destroy the eluvians, or to instead use them yourself. maybe optional dungeons or treasure could be behind them, or if destroyed they drop rare materials. maybe have risk of varying party reaction depending on destruction or use.
Maybe the root, branches of the frame is ether a different version of the frame or a magical lock sort of speaking... If u have a password or a magick lock/key it alters the frame to allow u to pass and activate the eluvian. Or it could be just a communication eluvion and does has a different frame.
Tinfoil hat time: I think the archdemons are literal dragons that had their souls forged into keys, one key for each of the "gods" that were locked away. When an archdemon rises, that "key" is then active/free-floating in the world and the door (the eluvian leading to the prison/tomb) could be unlocked. When Urthemiel rose at the beginning of DA:O, that dragon soul was corrupted by the Blight of the darkspawn/Architect and by that taint Urthemiel was able to be controlled by the Evanuris. They commanded the key to unlock the door, and this "turned on" the eluvian hidden in the cave in the Dalish origin story. I think that particular eluvian lead to the tomb of Ghilan'nain. This would explain why Solas gets so angry when he hears the Wardens are trying to find all the archdemons and wake them. That would mean the Evanuris could command multiple keys at once to unlock their doors. He wasn't prepared, at that time, to face even one of the Evanuris.
Merrill's Mirror per DA2 dialogue in his personal story quests. The main point is she clearly says she took "the fragment" of the mirror, implying one. Which then begs the question, is the whole mirror in the frame, which is basically larger then her, the whole shard? Or is it the tiny piece in the top right corner that is clearly cracked separate from the other piece? We know the demon on Sundermount is the one that taught her how to cleans it of the taint, so.... she was dragging a blighted mirror shard around, within her clan, all the way from Ferleden to Kirkwall? One would hope, in that case, it was covered in something that would not allow the corruption to spread. Though, Blight transmission seems to be questionable all on its own. I lean towards the tiny shard being the one she took, though, in which case the majority of her mirror isn't eluvian "glass". I mean, I can't see her entire clan telling her to destroy it/leave it, and her, like, trying to drag a 6 foot by 18 inch slab that looks to be several inches thick behind the rest of the clan. Or being allowed on the boat with a chunk of broken glass that size. So, if it is the tiny shard, did the demon tell her that the magic in the shard would transfer to the other pieces? I mean, if told the truth about blood magic being able to remove the taint from the mirror. But then again maybe the blight was just on it, once it was shattered, and that was more of a lie and he really just taught her a really good blood spell for cleaning grime. If the eluvian was actually tainted, was it alive? If it was alive and shattering it broke it's ability to be used to travel, is the eluvian glass "dead"? Is the eluvian glass a ghoul, in that it's still alive, and blighted? -eye twitch- It's really hard to make any definitive call here since so much of what Merrill tells you is based on a demon who only wanted to possess her and we feeding on her strong desire to recapture elvhen history. ...The main point was just that, below, she says "the fragment". Merrill: I've spent the last few years restoring this. One of my clan found it in the Brecilian Forest, we think. Poor Tamlen. We never found him. Just the shattered pieces of the eluvian. (Hawke asks what she is doing with the mirror.) Merrill: At first, I just wanted to find Tamlen. But, it's been too long.. Tamlen is probably dead by now, if he wasn't already. But still, I know it can help my people. I can at least recover this one small part of out heritage. (Hawke questions if the mirror is what made the Keeper send Merrill away.) Merrill: The Keeper wanted me to destroy the fragment I kept. She said out ancestors meant it to be forgotten. But it's a Keeper's place to remember! Even the dangerous things. We argued. I... left. She's wrong. This mirror could teach us so much about who we once were! (Hawke asks about Tamlen's disappearance.) Merrill: The ruin we tracked Tamlen to was full of traps and monstrous things, but we found no body. His trail ended at the broken pieces of eluvian. (Hawke asks what an eluvian is.) Merrill: Long ago, the elves had a kingdom. And empire that covered Thedas. And every city had an eluvian. The mirrors let them communicate across their empire. But I don't know how, exactly. My people have lost so much. We know almost nothing of the days before Arlathan. This is a piece of our history. (Hawke questions safety of the mirror.) Merrill: It's not dangerous, I promise! I fixed it. Or tried to. With blood magic. The mirror won't hurt anyone. But... it doesn't work. I've tried everything, and I think it's because it needs to be finished with a special tool. And arulin'holm. And my clan has one. It's been in their hands for generations... Now, this is likely far too much nitpicking with imagery, but at least one of the Crossroad mirrors has a ton more obvious cracks in it, and none line up with the huge one through the center of Merril's. The other images of Merrill's mirror in the Crossroads also has a sort of "pattern" to it. Almost frosted, or like the magic is trying to overtake the rest of the mirror. And, after spending far too much time with photoshop and with both mirrors the cracks on the mirror with the ram facing the right of the screen (which is the same direction as Merrill's faces in Kirkwall) are in the exact same place as the ones that can be seen on the patterned mirror where the ram faces left. Which means whoever put this damn mirror in the game literally forgot to FLIP THE TEXTURE for the back side of the mirror. Further to that, even though Merrill's mirror in Kirkwall has the big gouge in it, and far less defined cracks (maybe that's just the resolution on it), the main points in those cracks all around it still all line up. The one in Halamshiral shows the same pattern as the one in the Crossroads. But the one in the Deep Roads is just a frame. And The Decent DLC takes place just West of Highever. It's unlikely that the clan traveled across the land, picked up a frame for a mirror no one wanted except Merrill, and took that on a boat from Highever. It's more likely they got on a boat at Gwaren. But, Kirkwall is just across the Waking Sea from Highever, and the actual Descent DLC is even closer to Kirkwall than that. And we do know that some of the Deep Roads go under the Waking See. So.... my guess is that the frames, themselves, were fashioned in the Free Marches. And one of them wound up in the Deep Roads, and one wound up in Merrill's house, probably because it was thrown away, because it's ostentatious trash that doesn't even work as a bloody mirror. Or, with Kirkwall's strong ties to Tevinter, the mirror literally is a Skype Eluvian that the Tevinter people made based on demon information and blood magic, and other ones they found, and Merrill just happened to put her eluvian shard in a Tevinter eluvian frame. And we're going to get to Tevinter and see a whole bunch of ram imagery and more Merrill eluvians.
my major theory for dragon age which is like vaguely related to eluvians but more about the black city and the fade: The black city in the fade is the golden city, we know this, but I have definitely heard of Arlathan being referred to as a golden city, ergo, Arlathan IS the black city (this is still a theory I've heard before). I believe it's probably specifically a palace or throne room rather than the whole city. So what happened? When the Elvhen gods were locked away, that is when the fade was separated from the waking world - the part that was in the waking world crumbled, but the part in the fade became the black city. The gods were likely locked away in this part. When Corypheus first entered into the black city he said it was already black (despite the chantry saying the first magisters are the ones who turned it black) and I'm inclined to believe him (why lie?), so what's going on? I have two theories for this first part: 1) the waking world and the fade were not made to be separated; their natural state is together; so separating them would cause an imbalance. which would then cause the blight. Like how the body creates a fever to fight against a sickness. 2) the blight was created by the Elvhen gods in their attempts to free themselves as well I personally think number 2 is more likely because it might explain why darkspawn are attracted to the archdemons This, I believe, is how the archdemons came to be - the archdemons are Elvhen gods infected with the blight - the numbers match up! 7 blights for 7 archdemons. 9 Elvhen gods, so minus Mithal and Fen'harel that's 7! As for why they look like dragons and stuff... uhhhhhh..... maybe blight do weird things? Look man it's just a theory. Perhaps, if theory 2 is correct, the blight was created by the old gods desperately trying to increase their power in order to escape, and this had two effects: the blight, and the... uh... slightly altered forms of our friends here lol Or perhaps they're not the archdemons at all, or perhaps their spirits possessed the archdemons (mightn't they have become more spirit than elf over the years trapped in the fade). Who knows? Either way, the blight was contained in the black city until.... Corypheus and the other magisters came along. They didn't TURN the city black, they simply released what was already there. And now Merril's Eluvian. How does an Eluvian get infected with the blight? I propose it doesn't. Eluvian's are doorways, so where does it lead? Well, Arlathan would have had its own doorways, so what it Merril's Eluvian actually led into the black city itself? The mirror isn't blighted, but where it leads is ((I know it's in the back of the crossroads but there could be one - perhaps the design marks all doorways into Arlethan?). It would explain why the blight reaches through it and it would explain why the doorway doesn't work (a passageway from the waking world to the fade requires a lot more power than even blood magic after all). (also, they say the 'old gods' convinced the tevinter priests to breach the fade to the golden city. i believe this still gives credence to my idea in that the elvhen gods from within the fade may have found a way, through increasing their power, to manipulated tevinter priests into unlocking the door to try to free them. However, how they'd go from creatures capable of precise thought and manipulation to massive beasts within that time is another question entirely)
My Dwarf inquisitor would stumble around for a few steps after using an eluvian and hold her head. she seemed to have the hardest time of anyone so far.
Plz make a nation video for the Tevinter Imperium. I’ve always been fascinated by the Imperium more so after hearing about it from Dorian. I honestly can’t wait to get to adventure through it in DA4.
Had we not established that only living things could catch the blight? Since the Eluvian in Dragon Age:Origins was blighted... does that mean Eluvians are alive?
I always thought the crossroads in Trespasser are supposed to resemble Elvhenan/Arlathan because one of the spirits you can talk to says something about this place broke down when we veil came down because the magic stopped? I’m talking from memory here but Arlathan is somewhat closeish to Seheron so?! Maybe?!
Maybe the crossroads in inquisition and trespasser look different from one another is because the first one was official and used by the empire and another one was created or reprogrammed by solas to use it for the rebellion
Not much of a theory, more of a wish; Solas most being the main antagonist for DA4 and the game taking place in Tevinter got me thinking of who we might see from past games and after this video (the idea that the elves have better access to Eluvians) reminded me of Feynriel. What if the Trespasser crossroads are different from those described by Morrigan and the Masked Empire because Solas used his dreamer abilities to reshape them when he took control? And what if, should you let Feynriel escape to Tevinter, you recruit him and use his own elf blood and dreamer abilities to take part of the crossroads for yourself? Just a thought.
OH, now I hope there's a section in DA4 kind of like the battle against the Gray Wardens in Inquisition where we prepare for a storming of the Crossroads and battle within them to take them over and prevent Solas from using them.
Another thought, I didn't really consider the relation between the Crossroads and the Fade before, but what if the magic Solas used to create the Veil is similar to what the Gods used to create the Crossroads? Perhaps they taught him how when he ascended to be a God, then figured out how to cast a "powered up" version of the spell and used their trick against them. The Veil is a giant, empty pocket dimension, perhaps with and Eluvian leading to it too, standing between the material and the Fade.
So, Fun production fact I guess, but I did try to gather more close up shots of the thing from DAI, but the footage got messed up and I didn't have time to reshoot. From what I saw, the horns curled back like a rams, and there was only two, compared to the twisting feature that Halla have that have multiple branches. It still could be a halla- the DAI texture was pretty low quality- pretty blurry. But It just looked so much more like a Ram than a broken Halla.
Interesting, for some reason i have this gut feeling like it has something to do with the kokori wilds (prob botched that spelling) just something about its styling but i would assume morrigan would find it before anyone else did....or flemeth...
I just restarted Inquisition and I have a question. When you are walking around the Temple of Sacred Ashes, Solas says that whatever caused the breach could have called on the Lyrium under the temple and corrupted. I always assumed that Corypheus was the culprit of that but could it be possible that the Solas’ Foci corrupted the lyrium? If so, does that create a link between the ancient elves and the blight itself? In any case, your videos are astounding and I’m glad I found you and The Exalted March. You two are incredible!
I think to solas Eluvian is useful but not crucial for all we know he can turn in a dragon or wolf or place him self in a locket or anything all that at like 10% power not to mention his ghost army
I don't think so. Solas actually says they're helping to strengthen the veil and - while he is a trickster - we don't truly see him lie. I think he was trying to keep the Veil up until he built up enough strength to deal with the Evanuris. At that point, he would bring down the Veil, or at least that's my impression.
The Qunari are a mixture of human, elf and dragon. At least that is how I see it. I can be wrong about it. But Solas does not really like the Qun, in fact he hates it, he sees that it enslaved the elves as did the humans, and that the world is oppressing magic.
just a thought but that ram could it have a connection to Mr. Woolsey from Redcliffe? i know it sounds silly but maybe there is more to Mr. Woolsey than we thought. i mean it is really smart for a dumb creature plus it looks different. add in that when talk to the npc that gives you the quest tells you that the woolsey brings good fortune by giving advice to them, so apparently he talks? we know spirits can possess animals so what if that ram is possessed by an avaar spirit or an elven spirit or god? total tinfoil mode i admit! lol but Mr. Woolsey does seem to be the only animal i can think of that has intelligence and can talk maybe other than dragons(specifically the old gods)
I have no real evidence for this other than Solas's interest in the Eluvians, but what if the Void is part of the Crossroads, or at least accessible only through it
I'm kinda guessing that with the Crossroads being used frequently by the elves and being in their own sort of dimension, that it was the Crossroads themselves that inspired Solas to create the spell to bring the Veil into being.
Words cannot describe how much I love your videos, I use dragon age as stress relief and I binge watch your content ALL the time. It’s just so peaceful for me and really helps me relax while learning more and more. Thank you so much!
Most likely
I think Merrill's eluvian is clearly evidence that there is much more to Lord Woolsley than we've anticipated.
I'm watching you goat ( 👁👁)
Biggest twist in DA4: Lord Woolsley takes control of the eluvians from Solas because he's been the actual true mastermind all along...
Eluvians, I think, are the key to the whole series imo. All the races have significant stories involving them, Elven connections or not
I had no freaking idea the Crossroads in Trespasser look different per your race O_____O
As for the Merrill's Eluvian stuff, perhaps the ram was meant to be a Halla but someone screwed up and no one got around to fixing it.
If the Eluvian was tainted by the Blight, does that mean they are alive?
my interpretation was that the eluvian simply lead to a place that was overtaken by the blight, such that contact with it would taint the user.
(not to mention keeping it secret while she was a member of Celene’s court)
I like to imagine that Eluvians can be magically shrunk down into little hand mirrors for travel purposes, and can then magically grown back to full size once they reach a set location.
Duncan. We
Yeah, its probably that he is a gray warden
Let's hope Dragon Age 4 becomes a Good Game
I always assumed that Merrill’s eluvian was used for communication purposes instead of transportation purposes. Like a fancy telephone.
Seems like it might be another link back to the origins of the warden's joining ritual perhaps?)
As for that same frame cropping up elsewhere in Thedas: I'm willing to write that off as just simple asset reuse.
A few other details that jump out at me: -
1) They can be infected by the blight, so they're somehow *alive*.
Ohhh that sounds like an interesting tweet! I'm going to go hunt for that... Really interesting comment, thank you!
@@GhilDirthalen I had a quick search for it myself on the assumption that it was either from Weekes or Gaider but came up empty. So it's either someone else, not on twitter at all (if it was the old Bioware social forums, then I'm sunk!), or my google-fu just sucks! ;)
I think the reason this idea stuck in my mind all these years is that it just made so much more sense than "Merrill has been lugging that huge frame around all over Thedas" I mean if all Merrill took from those ruins were a few broken shards, then she could easily have it on her when....ah! Memory strikes mid-typing. (better late than never, brain!)
The tweet/post/wherever I read this had to do with what Merril was doing when Hawke first walked up to her on Sundermount: she was hunched over fiddling with the tainted shard she'd kept from DAO.
This is going to help so much in my D&D campaign, thank you!!💕
I'd never even considered ripping from DA, but now that I think about it it's a brilliant idea.
Anyone who has done enough hallucinogens has seen past the Veil. 😂🍄
8:46 I had no idea! I mainly play Trevelayn
I love the content and quality of your videos! Your personality and voice are enjoyable and easy to listen to. Please keep up the amazing work!
Another possibility for the ram head is that Merrill is just really into Dodge.
(Hawke asks what she is doing with the mirror.)
Merrill: At first, I just wanted to find Tamlen. But, it's been too long.. Tamlen is probably dead by now, if he wasn't already. But still, I know it can help my people. I can at least recover this one small part of out heritage.
(Hawke questions if the mirror is what made the Keeper send Merrill away.)
Merrill: The Keeper wanted me to destroy the fragment I kept. She said out ancestors meant it to be forgotten. But it's a Keeper's place to remember! Even the dangerous things. We argued. I... left. She's wrong. This mirror could teach us so much about who we once were!
(Hawke asks about Tamlen's disappearance.)
Merrill: The ruin we tracked Tamlen to was full of traps and monstrous things, but we found no body. His trail ended at the broken pieces of eluvian.
(Hawke asks what an eluvian is.)
Merrill: Long ago, the elves had a kingdom. And empire that covered Thedas. And every city had an eluvian. The mirrors let them communicate across their empire. But I don't know how, exactly. My people have lost so much. We know almost nothing of the days before Arlathan. This is a piece of our history.
(Hawke questions safety of the mirror.)
Merrill: It's not dangerous, I promise!
And we're going to get to Tevinter and see a whole bunch of ram imagery and more Merrill eluvians.
my major theory for dragon age which is like vaguely related to eluvians but more about the black city and the fade:
The black city in the fade is the golden city, we know this, but I have definitely heard of Arlathan being referred to as a golden city, ergo, Arlathan IS the black city (this is still a theory I've heard before).
I have two theories for this first part:
1) the waking world and the fade were not made to be separated; their natural state is together; so separating them would cause an imbalance. which would then cause the blight. Like how the body creates a fever to fight against a sickness.
2) the blight was created by the Elvhen gods in their attempts to free themselves as well
I personally think number 2 is more likely because it might explain why darkspawn are attracted to the archdemons
This, I believe, is how the archdemons came to be - the archdemons are Elvhen gods infected with the blight - the numbers match up!
Merrils mirror can be found in the winter palace as well in a vault below the library
4:33 what if it’s designed that way from the people who thought they were more like skype than portals?
Pls do the Mages Underground and or Mage's Collective. I love your lore videos.
Plz make a nation video for the Tevinter Imperium. I’ve always been fascinated by the Imperium more so after hearing about it from Dorian. I honestly can’t wait to get to adventure through it in DA4.
Eluvians= Elven internet
...Trickster god, possibly last hope of the elven people, hiding in a mass magical transportation network....
Had we not established that only living things could catch the blight? Since the Eluvian in Dragon Age:Origins was blighted... does that mean Eluvians are alive?
Another comment said it was probably because, as it is a magical object, it was of lyrium and lyrium is alive
Maybe?!
Maybe the crossroads in inquisition and trespasser look different from one another is because the first one was official and used by the empire and another one was created or reprogrammed by solas to use it for the rebellion
yay, lore video!
Not much of a theory, more of a wish;
Solas most being the main antagonist for DA4 and the game taking place in Tevinter got me thinking of who we might see from past games and after this video (the idea that the elves have better access to Eluvians) reminded me of Feynriel.
Thanks for the video!!
Ugh I need to play 2 again. I’m losing my grip on the lore of it. You definitely help me out with that haha
I could be wrong but I could have sworn I saw an Eluvian in Soldiers Peak.
I thought the ram was a halla, its old so maby the antlers broke off Merrill did say she had touble finding all the pieces
I want you to do a hypothetical one of If wynne became the divine
Didn't Morrigan get a Eluvian repaired in The Last Court?
imagine bringing an army through eluvians.
Hmm maybe merrils eluvian is a model that is used primarly for some long distance communication?
I just restarted Inquisition and I have a question. When you are walking around the Temple of Sacred Ashes, Solas says that whatever caused the breach could have called on the Lyrium under the temple and corrupted. I always assumed that Corypheus was the culprit of that but could it be possible that the Solas’ Foci corrupted the lyrium? If so, does that create a link between the ancient elves and the blight itself? In any case, your videos are astounding and I’m glad I found you and The Exalted March. You two are incredible!
Finally a new vid ❤️
I think to solas Eluvian is useful but not crucial for all we know he can turn in a dragon or wolf or place him self in a locket or anything all that at like 10% power not to mention his ghost army
Why would the crossroads exist if Solas created the veil? There would have been no place nearer or more distant from the fade.
I'm one year late but what is the name of the background song?
it's mesmerizing XD
The elven artifact that Solas has you activating, could those be to actually help to tear down the veil like Solas plans to do?
I don't think so. Solas actually says they're helping to strengthen the veil and - while he is a trickster - we don't truly see him lie. I think he was trying to keep the Veil up until he built up enough strength to deal with the Evanuris. At that point, he would bring down the Veil, or at least that's my impression.
The Qunari are a mixture of human, elf and dragon. At least that is how I see it. I can be wrong about it. But Solas does not really like the Qun, in fact he hates it, he sees that it enslaved the elves as did the humans, and that the world is oppressing magic.
Well alright, alright, alright....
I'm just wondering still how an Eluvian could be tainted.
Could the ram on Merrill’s eluvian somehow be a halla? That would make more sense why it would be on the top of the mirror.
just a thought but that ram could it have a connection to Mr.
Ram? You mean, like -------------------------[reach]-------------------------------Qunari??
I have no real evidence for this other than Solas's interest in the Eluvians, but what if the Void is part of the Crossroads, or at least accessible only through it
Is there any chance the crossroads are the veil itself?
I'm kinda guessing that with the Crossroads being used frequently by the elves and being in their own sort of dimension, that it was the Crossroads themselves that inspired Solas to create the spell to bring the Veil into being.
Essentially webway portals from Warhammer
I know you probably won't see this but
her Eluvian has a ram cause it comes from that one family that has a Lucky Ram xD jk
I really hope "destroy the eluvians to cripple Solas" doesn't become a plot point in DA4.
omg people still play dragon age😄
First marry me
I left my husband for a youtube comment {Lore - No Spoilers}
Ugh, Coochie
/chefs kiss/
Perfect comment.
