Isn't it amazing how many of the scores from the flops back then are superior to those of today's hits. Love this show! Directed a summer stock production the year after it closed on B'way
Agreed. Hal Hackaday told me that his original idea for the show was to present it as 13 acts of vaudeville. Not sure that would have turned this around, but there's no denying that this score is alive and kicking, with Broadway brio -- as well as tender songs like this one and, of course, the famous "Mama, a Rainbow."
This was the title song during the early previews. A new title song was written that was more upbeat and involved more of the cast. Both are on the cast album.
I love this song - and Shelly Winter's delivery of it. I can't imagine an audience not being touched by it.
I saw this show and remember loving it.
One of my favorite LP's. It's a good one to listen to on a Saturday morning.

Oh how I love Larry Grossman.
Such an underrated Grossman/Hackedy score (but aren’t they all!).

YEP! Especially Grossman's "Grind".

This is great. What a rare gem. Is there any more audio from this show available? I'd love to hear the whole show. Great stuff.
Find the LP. It's worth the hunt.
