Jay Z is a street rapper, an intellectual, and a pop culture artist all in one. The same can be said of Tupac. The question is-- what happened that those kind of artists stopped being prominent in rap culture?
Drake is not bigger than Eminem, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Nas and other legendary OG'S. No discussion on it. Drake is not even the best selling artist of the decade, not even the biggest ever. For me not even a true or genuine rapper and adding to it that he doesn't even write his own songs.... He has swag and beats, not more than that. Period. Portugal here. Drake’s “reign” truly started in an era of digital consumption. Whereas Jay’s reign started in an era where if you truly adored an individual’s music and respected the individual’s image, you had to go and make a physical purchase out of support, paying for something that you can damn call “yours”, you know? ..There can never really be a comparison and shouldn’t be. Needless to say that it’s a borderline disrespectful or regressive thing to do, and.. not to the individual’s that we (or y’all) speak of, but to the culture of hip hop and music. The art itself.
