Some things Drake can never attain and that’s the respect from street niggas to mainstream America. Jay has done things outside the industry that help cement his legacy. Battling DMX in the pool hall, battling Big L in HIS hood to name a couple. I’m sorry but Drakes success is rooted in sales, Jay-Z is in sales, street, business and fashion. It’s levels to this

If jayz/nas etc in their prime had the social media and money behind him that drake does the last 10 years, were appealing to the masses and every second girl loved them they would be bigger than drake in my opinion.... I've never heard a top tier emcee or legend of the genre name him in their top 5 not once... he can rap and he does his thing but when it comes to the art of rapping and hiphop music he shouldnt even be considered in that top tier conversation when you have people like jadakiss black thought royce da 5'9 and so many other absolute lyrical machines still so under appreciated after over 20 years perfecting their craft and never switching up their styles to try become pop artists

Jay been in it for 30 Years and still relevant - across multiple generations. And he helped put on others who are top tier. And at his peak, he effected culture differently. Drake is popular. Nobody wants to dress like Drake. Prime Hov changed the contents of people’s closet, the way they wore their hat, their brands they wore, etc. Drake on the other hand is one of the most quoted artists ever. He’s a memelord.
But Drake would have to double up (in Years) AND put on other artists who are great to be in Hov territory. Drake is in the convo as far as NUMBERS only. He doesn’t have a Reasonable Doubt, or a Blueprint. However you CANNOT compare numbers. Hard Knock Life sold over 5 Million PHYSICAL copies, with no streaming and no pop records, THAT’S CRAZY. We will never know how Drake would have done in a world with ONLY physical copies. What if Hard Knock Life could have just streamed all day, and gotten added to playlists AND had youtube streams? We’ll never know. So why compare?
On the flipside, Jay put on for Marcy. Drake put on for an entire Country. He is an international artist. That also explains a lot of his popularity. His reach and appeal is much broader than almost anyone. So, why even compare?
Drake is a Great. Jay is a LEGEND.

Jay-Z didn't have 6-7 well-known rappers co-signing him before his first album. Jay-Z didn't join a label that was reaching the pinnacle of rap with cats who were a whole decade in the game. At the end of the day, "the type of n*gga you are" argument holds true because Jay did all that he did, basically going AGAINST the industry, while Drake had the winds of the industry behind him. Idk where this attitude of “niggas don’t fuck with Eminem therefore he is irrelevant” came from. In pure numbers, more non-black people listen to hip hop and rap than black people. And those people love Eminem, assuming that no black person does (which it’s unlikely given how many black rappers he has inspired). So if all those non-black people stop listening to rap, the industry is potentially done. So it’s not like you can say their opinions or voices don’t matter. They do, they keep the industry running and give all these rappers all that money they flaunting. And as long as those voices matter, Eminem should always be in the conversation cause they love him. As a matter of fact, they love him so much, that this dude won’t stop bringing up his name for clicks lmao. He feeding you fam, be humble and sit down 😂.

September 2022, 52 year old Jay Z just dropped a verse on DJ Khalid's 'God Did' and people went crazy.
Jay Z has people today still drinking Ace of Spades, re-listening to Reasonable Doubt, talking about Roc-A-Fella after it was disbanded 9 years ago in 2013, now openly involved in the justice system (he use to do shit in silence like paying anonymously for legal fees), has cut a deal with Puma nad brough other artists into the fold, got Roc Nation to manage various artists to elevate them further. In essence, Jay Z has more of an overal cultural influence than Drake.
Drake has done he own version of putting people on. He has done features on musiucians that exposed them to his fan base and more. He to has gone into fashion with Nike. He has shed light on various sub-cultures of hip hop by doing music that represents the particular art form from all over the world. People said he was a culture vulture, however, you can see it as Drake paying homage to the art forms.
Both have made an impact in their own right and deserve to be celevrated equally.

But that difference is true about a lot of the biggest artists from the present generation versus the past. In the past, the biggest rap artists in the game were both intellectuals and militant street figures-- Jay Z, Tupac, Pun, etc. More and more, rap artists in the present are either just street, just conscious, or pop/party. Jay Z is a street rapper, an intellectual, and a pop culture artist all in one. The same can be said of Tupac. I compare Hov to MJ. He was too good for too long. He checks too many boxes. He did it during a more difficult era to be the star that he became. Physical copies, no social media, more competition, a different standard of what good music was, ghost writer for others while Drake has ghost writers, impacted the culture on multiple levels, literally dropped EVERY year while he was active, I can go on. Drake is a LEGEND. HOFer without question. He just can't pass a nigga who has been before now during your run. It's impossible. It's not a good comparison really cuz Hov means too much to what the culture as a whole has become. There's no Drake if there wasn't a Hov first.

No. Jay been Jay, Jay been a GOAT three times over already, then married the biggest Superstar after MJ died. Drake makes great singles, his albums have too much singing to be a GOAT rapper

Stop it..... what in the fuc.. does Beyonce have to do with anything. This is about hip hop not some episode of Real Housewives... . With that said Jay has done more for hip hop and still looms over Drake.

The comparison to dudes to Jay-Z, Nas, etc shouldn't be Drake. It really should be Kendrick based on artist quality and sales. Drake how many albums deep and don't got one classic album to show for it. Kendrick has two classic albums to me (GKMC, TPAB).

Drake’s “reign” truly started in an era of digital consumption. Whereas Jay’s reign started in an era where if you truly adored an individual’s music and respected the individual’s image, you had to go and make a physical purchase out of support, paying for something that you can damn call “yours”, you know? ..There can never really be a comparison and shouldn’t be. Needless to say that it’s a borderline disrespectful or regressive thing to do, and.. not to the individual’s that we (or y’all) speak of, but to the culture of hip hop and music. The art itself. It’s a redundant topic just like tryna compare Lebron to Kobe or Kobe to Micheal. Completely based off of subjective opinion.
Sidenote: my response isn’t an any way intentionally combative, in fact this just goes to show you that you’re killing this TH-cam thing. It’s thought provocative, which is NEEDED, not just on TH-cam, but period. Unlike all this other zombie shit that’s fuckin people up out here lol Keep up the great work bro. Peace.
