    I know someone who banishes with a flashlight. As a small kid they had a flashlight by their bed that their parent's told them to shine on spooky corners late at night when they were scared of the dark. Now if they think something is hanging around they don't want in the house they shine a flashlight in the space they think it is and they said it works for them.

    Best floor cleaner for tile and vinyl: 1 gal hot water, 1cp white vinegar, .5tsp Castile soap, and 5-10 drops essential oil. I like rosemary and lemon.

    I love that you talked about mundane regular cleaning as cleansing. As I am disabled, I have had to change a lot about how I clean. Ive made it into a ritual. I also use the lemon Lysol and salt, although using a broom is harder for me so I use my vacuum.im betting that if witches of old had access to a vacuum, carpet shampooer and a steamer, they would've used it. I also smoke and sound cleanse weekly after cleaning and use incense after cleaning during the week. I have singing bowls, hand drums, rattles and maracas, bells, and all kinds of noise makers my husband picked up for me at yard sales and thrift shops so I would stop using my pans like that. Use what you have, make it easier on yourself, incorporate it into chores one already does, know that clutter, dirt and grime hold diseases, germs and bad energy. Cleaning is well over half the battle. Hell, sing while you clean, make noise as you go. Two steps in one! Add essential oils to cleansers or a tiny pinch of salt for added boost of cleansing to a cleaner. Open the windows and let some fresh air and sunlight in. All these things go such a long way to adding positive energy, removal of negative energy, and cleansing ones space!

      Before my spinal injury, I used to dance to raise energy while I was cleaning. Look up Florida water. You dilute it, put it in the wash water or a spray bottle.

    • @danielleking3880
      @danielleking3880 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Exiled.New.Yorker I use a steamer alot and I can't add oils or anything to the water except a little vinegar to clean the steamers. Steamers are easier for me to use cleaning. And a good old bottle of Lysol to wash in between. If it kills germs, grime, and cleans, it's also cleansing. I sometimes add a tiny drop of essential oil to the pads used on the steamers. That's about all I can add that way.

    I personally feel I gotta limit my smoke cleansings cuz I have two cat floofs. I worry too much smoke being breathed in could be unhealthy for them- so I'm more picky with when I allow myself to. But sound cleansings and simmer pots are beautiful 😍

    I incorporated sound cleansing in a protective charm I have in my car, adding two tiny bells to it, so that they jingle anytime I hit a bump on the road (and here in Italy the streets are pure trash, so it's very frequent).
    A cultural note though: tarantella (your pronunciation is almost spot on, don't worry), taranta and pizzica - which are almost the same thing - are culturally specific to Southern Italy, they don't do it in the North, and our cultures are very separated for political reasons (mostly being that, after the unification of Italy in the mid 1800s, the North destroyed the economic and production systems of the former Reign of Naples in order to appease the huge landowner gentry of the South, practically depleting the territory of modern means of living and keeping it poor and quasi-feaudal, teaching the new generations that their Southern culture was ignorant and inferior to the modern and industrialized North, etc.). We are still subject to this kind of prejudice, with a hypercapitalist twist on it, now that the South is becoming more and more a tourist playground: in my region pizzica is a popular courting dance, and it's appreciated mainly by northerners on holiday (who other us southerners as "genuine" and "primitive" or something). Also, taranta and tarantella are exorcisms, to get the "tarantata" (a woman driven mad by the bite of a tarantula, even though we don't have tarantulas here, and a metaphor for sexual drive) rid of her "crazy behavior". It comes from the ecstatic traditions of the mysteric cults of gods such as Dyonisos, as many things in catholic folklore do, and it's not a cleansing method.
    Sorry for the long post, but I thought that you'd be interested in the nuances of our internal colonization, since you seem genuinely active in underlining those in your own culture. As usual, thank you for sharing your knowledge and your thoughts, many hugs!

    I confirm that salt on carpets or area rugs is best (And why carpets? I live in apartment with paper-thin ceilings, it's carpet or your downstairs neighbour will hear your breath). It not only removes energy - it deal with smells too. Sprinkle it, leave for 15-20 min and then sweep or vacuum floor.
    Alternative to smoke cleansing: spraying with something - water with lemon juice and salt, herbal infusion or tincture. Also easiest method of all - just air your house and let wind take bad stuff away :)

    Smoke cleanses are a no-go since myself and a few others in my family have asthma. I usually do a vaccuum cleanse that has a salt base (because carpets) and cleansing spray with lavender, clary sage, and cedarwood essential oil in it.

    I find the regular mundane cleaning with magical elements woven in to be the most effective for me. It not only moves bad energy out, it also rustles up stagnant energy which can be an issue over time as well. I generally do a deep clean / move everything, once every couples of months to really move the energies around - I'm all about transformation magic though which also might account for this. Adding sigils, stones, and so forth can also work great for vacuums, mop buckets, cleaning cloths, and whatever other tools you use. Love seeing more people talking about this aspect. Thanks for the video!

    I feel like sound cleansing is super underrated, as someone who does primarily sound cleansing. With me having two little rat bois I cant burn ANYTHING in my room because of their super sensitive lungs, and my room is where I do my work (Closet witch vibes lmao). I've got a few instruments that I like to use while I cleanse, idk what kind of instrument it is, but it's really fun to use haha. It's a wooden circle on a stick with two beads attached by strings at the sides, and when you take your hands and go back and forth on the stick, it makes sound.

    haven’t found a lot of resources out there for sicilian and tunisian practices but we tend to use everything cloth-related as a cleansing/protection thing a lot (the laundry, sewing and embroidering, buying new clothes, bleaching, knitting) + we try to trick the bad stuff into going out of the house on its own if that makes sense? like, we’ll leave a fruit out to rot in the kitchen for bad energies to attach themselves to it and throw it out in the garden the next day. in tunisia we definitely use orange blossom and rose water + olive oil literally for EVERYTHING. henna is cleansing too

    I don't really smoke cleanse because of pets, but as a german folkwitch I looooovee to use stinging nettle. One because it grows EVERYWHERE and is easily accessible but also because of the feeling you get when you touch it, it doesn't really hurt, but is pretty uncomfortable, so it's kind like making the stuff I want to cleanse uncomfortable and makes it leave pretty much lol. It's also a nice protective herb because of that. (I also love using mint for cleansing, because I associate it with fresh- and cleanness, mostly because of toothpaste and stuff lol)

      Oooh Id love to hear how cactus can help. Is there a variety that is astringent in odor/nature? thats a common thing in "cleansing" herbs, so if theres a nonpoisonous type that has that type of sharp smell when cut, you should experiment with it! Or ask the Native types, but be careful to be VERY respectful and offer to bring a gift in exchange for the knowledge. The cultural appropriation has been bad for them.

    • @ChaoticWitchAunt
      @ChaoticWitchAunt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but it's so hard for me to explain! Both can be used similarly - I always conceptualize exorcism as being specific and targeting specific things as well as often including certain elements such as holy herbs, prayer, etc depending on tradition and folk magic. Banishing is a bit more open to a lot of different things! I would consider exorcism to be more intense than banishing, but under the umbrella of what banishing is.
