  • If you weigh 200lbs+ you may want to consider a larger wakefoil when you're starting out. In this video we take George out on Lake Washington for a WakeFoiling experience and let him demo the Slingshot Hover Glide Infinity 84cm wake foil. Slingshot sells this wing as a part of their FSUP package. It also works as a stable option for wake foiling -- especially for the second wave. In this we'll have George give you a good sense for how he likes this wakefoil! It's his first time out on this Infinity 84cm foil.

    First off Kudos to George as he did awesome! 👍 It's also cool that George has a kicker ramp at the end of his dock! 🤘
    Great video showing a new rider and the stability of the Infinity 84 wing. Good job setting the stage explaining his past foiling experience and how this foil changed the game for him.
    So Infinity 84 "B" slot, 48 rear stabilizer tips down, short mast and where (fore/aft) in the foil T-Slot was the mast mounted if that board has one?

    Was about to pickup the Gamma 68 Front Wing, 42cm Rear Wing; experienced wake surfer, a fit 50/yr old 195lber, you think I should go for more wing before I open up this package? like Infinity 84?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi @boverton72 -- a lot depends upon what you want to do and what your wave looks like. I personally don't recommend either....as you'll note this video was shot a while ago (in foil evolution terms...a long while ago). That said - if you have a wake surf boat -- at a minimum I'd go with the 76. The Gamma 68 won't give you much in terms of pumping. You'll be able to ride the first wave but outside of that you'll struggle.
      Other options to consider -- you can email me at halflifet.5@gmail.com -- I'd look at Axis and Armstrong's new Alloy system as well as Unifoil. If you go slingshot, upgrade to the G or PTM line -- you'll be glad you did.
      Get out there and don't over analyze it too much. The foil progression begins!
      Best

    I noticed when you switched out the front foil you inverted the rear foil. I accidently inverted the rear foil on my board and it was awful. The nose wanted to bury itself and when I got up on the foil it handled poorly. Is there a reason why you inverted the rear foil?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO

      The tips on the rear foil go different directions based upon the front foil.

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Crazy Colten! Thanks for watching the video. I'd suggest watching the 99cm vs. the 84cm video -- th-cam.com/video/Mh-h-Dg3MEI/w-d-xo.html. Making a particular foil work is highly dependent upon the foiling skill of the rider. That said - bigger guys do better on bigger foils. At 275 lbs I would recommend the 99cm for you. It's fun to ride and will help you as you come up the foiling proficiency curve. Please don't hesitate with any questions and please let us know what you decide to do.

      Tell me more about your size/weight, boat you'll be behind, and experience on foils. I'll try to match you up with the right setup. The 84cm is killer! The 99cm may be an option as well as the HS1850.

    Hi H-L. I just purchased my first foil (84 FW and 48 RW). Do you recommend to start with A or B position ? Slingshot seems to recommend A position. Have you tried both ? What are the differences ? What position you think is best ? Why ? Thanks and cheers from Switzerland 🇨🇭😃🤙.

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Serialcrasher -- AWESOME! You'll love it. I recommend B position. If your 180 or less - all the way back in the mast track. if 181lb or more feel free to either leave the mast track all the way back or move to mid track. Don't forget that both wingtips face down. I find the lift to be more stable in the B position. Ultimately you can try both to see which is your preference. I'd start in B. Enjoy!

    How fast were you pulling George? I'd think the speed should be about 8mph, but it looks like your going faster 10? 12? Any tips on speed?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      11.2 mph. For most wake boats your range will be b/t 10-12.5. 90% of the time 11-11.5mph. If not a wake boat then look at the hump behind the boat starting at 7mph and slowly increase speed. When it 'V's" out -- the hump goes away - back it down .5-1mph, not the RPM level and use that. Having the hump ensures you have a second wave to ride.
      Cheers,
      Tim

    Absolutely LOVE your channel. Curious, would you recommend the 24 or 28 mast height (for a beginner). Further, do you have a point of view on the 2019 WF-2 vs. the 2020 WF-2 (assuming some improvements)? Thank so much in advance for your council

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Justin - Thank you for your comment! We really appreciate it. Actually - we like the 46cm (18 inch) the best to wake foil (beginners or otherwise). If you have a decent wake, the extra length doesn't provide much value because you have plenty of push. Move to the longer mast once you want to start working on pumping. Additionally, we like the longer mast lengths just to change it up. So start 18" ideally (we've found the 15" to be too short - that was the wake foil option from Slingshot in 2018). 24" if that's the closest you find. As it relates to the board....I assume you're just using it to foil? For WakeSurf there's better options than the Slingshot w/ quad fins. Assuming it's foiling only, it doesn't make much difference. We haven't ridden the 2020 yet so we're judging it off the specs. While it's assumed that there are improvements it looks materially the same and once you're airborne it doesn't matter. We really like the WF-2 but do know that the foam rails have a trade off (soft which is nice; but will dent with use). Spend most of your energy picking out the right foil wing for you and your crew. That's your top consideration.

      @@HALFLIFEVIDEO Fantastic!!! Thanks for such a thoughtful and detailed response (yes, only interested in wake foiling - apologies for the terminology slip :) . thank you for the great videos, just curious - SPEED.. what seems to be the happy range for a large foil and large guy - specifically, in your video above.. what were you doing speed wise?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi David -- thank you for the kind words - hopefully you subscribed to the channel and follow us on Instagram @halflifet.5
      Speed varies boat to boat but here's some general guidelines:
      - Modern era wakesurf boat -- 11.2mph (range 10.5 - 12mph)
      - Cross over boat wake/surf -- 10.5mph (range 9.5 - 12mph) - play with speed to maximize center hump behind the boat
      - Tournament ski boat -- ~8-10.5mph - I usually run ~1,500-1,600 RPM - maximize center hump
      Rider weight is not a factor we typically think of for speed. It's all about maximizing the size of the wave regardless of rider. Make sense?
      Let us know what type of boat you're on and we'll help to get you dialed in.

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a great boat. Definitely don't need to adjust rider specific. 11.2 should work great. For the G25 you'll just want to play with ballast placement and your tabs. Are you riding first wave or second? How much do you weigh and what foil are you riding?

    • @DavidMcGirt
      @DavidMcGirt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HALFLIFEVIDEO Hardware - Riding a V1 Slingshot board, but bought a Infinity 84 , and it made it much much better.. Currenly riding in position A , but pretty far forward on the board mount.. Might need to rethink that though. Me - 258# 6'2"
      Have been riding 11MPH , learning at the end of a wake board rope in the flats , but as soon as I get into the 2nd , the power kicks in and I need to just get rid of the rope, since I generally accelerate and get too much slack..
      It seems board / foil placement and speed/wake all interrelate in a big way, so all throw the others off a little .. but maybe I am over thinking it. I am open to changing board settings, and learning from there.. I can get up and foil comfortably in the flat, but have not transitioned to off road in the wake.. I noticed in your video you started him close and 'away' from the boat so to speak, then into the wake..
      Hopefully that makes some sense..

      where are you located? we do lessons (in person here in Seattle) -- virtual if you're out of the area. I think it would help you a lot (not just saying that because Half-Life sells lessons) - It's me who does the lesson and we've helped a lot of guys right where you're at.
      84cm is great. I might have advised the 99cm but you certainly can make the 84cm work.
      Switch the 84cm to the B slot -- it rides a lot better there.
      At your size/weight move the mast track 50% forward in the track - try it and adjust from there.
      Speed/rope management etc is something we can get into during our lesson (virtual or in person).

      Hey Colosufer! Nice water temperature - that's great. You can order directly here -- www.slingshotsports.com/Hover-Glide-Infinity-84mm-Carbon-Wing from Slingshot. Please do be advised that the 84cm is typically part of the wind foil package and has a different fuselage to accommodate the 48cm rear stabilizer so as long as you're getting the 84cm and 48cm -- you might want to get the fuselage as well. Please send us some pics to post on our Instagram @halflifet.5. You can email to halflifet.5@gmail.com. We love seeing the lakes from around the country.

      Hey Chaba 75 - At HALF-LIFE we embrace folks of all shapes and sizes. In this case, the foil is actually for all people over 200lbs regardless of how they're put together. When you're heavier, it helps to have more surface area on the foil to assist with elevation and glide. If you're 200lb+ and like a different foil, please let us know. Best - Tim.
