Like Brian Vickers more than Jeremy Mayfield. He flat out blew it.
I'll never forget his win at the Brickyard. It was one of the most magical moments in his career and it absolutely came out of the blue. I would have never guessed that he had any shot to win that race, but when it came down to it, despite severe cramping/dehydration, he was able to drive the wheels off the car and get the win. He was a real wheelman if I ever saw one.
Let's all take a look at what really happened with him, it was his health, his dehydration problems is what ended his career, he was in good equipment everywhere he was at up to Hendrick motorsports, he just, literally didn't have endurance anymore. 🤷 It sucks.
I actually disagree. His first 2 seasons at HMS were great except for tailing off at the end of 2013. He had 4 wins and some of those like Loudon and Bristol were tracks he had no won at before. I think 2012 was his best season by far. Only 2 wins sure but very consistent and easily could won more had a few things gone his way.

Wow, watching this video made me realize how much time in my own life has passed. Kasey Kahne became my favorite driver as soon as he got into the 9 car and actually got me into NASCAR as a 6 year old kid. The day I heard about his retirement really hit my hard, and I stopped watching the sport for good after Darlington. Not because I didn’t like it anymore, but because I didn’t have a connection with any of the other drivers like I did Kahne, so there wasn’t much of a reason for me to continue watching. I remember meeting him at a signing gig at a Bass Pro Shop in 2005 when I was 11, I just remember being star-struck since he was my favorite driver. From what I could gather, he was just a chill guy. The rumor I heard from my parents was I was the only one they allowed him to take a photo with. That could be entirely BS, but I don't care. All I know is I met him there, he signed my hat and I got to take a photo with him. It's really quite the shame his career wasn't as big as he deserved.
This saddens me, for obvious reasons. He'll always be my favorite though. Even though at one point he was a Cup leech in the Trucks and Xfinity Series.
While racing he generally was a nice guy on the track. He wasn't the type of driver to be highly aggressive which could of cost him better finishes. I liked that about him. I agree that being in that fourth Hendrick car put him at a disadvantage compared to the 24,48,and 88 teams. At some point it appeared that he lost that "passion" for racing in NASCAR. His focus shifted toward family (primarily his son) and back to dirt racing. I hope returning to dirt racing goes well for him, even tho I miss watching him driving in the Cup Series. Still a huge fan.
People forget that Kahne was in a super hyped rookie class that consisted of Vickers, Gaughan, Wimmer, Riggs and Sauter. Compared to all of those guys, I felt that Kahne wasn't by any means the favorite. Outside of Vickers, Kahne extremely exceeded expectations and outlasted all of those guys, who I say (except Vickers to a degree) are all Cup Series BUSTS.
I think he probably has had too many concussions and wasn't ever the same after some point. I remember a post-crash interview he had once and he seemed completely out of it.
He could start a Ghetto Go-Kart League, "Kasey Kahne's Karts for Kool, Kolored Kids." Best part, is, the Government would provide funding and not be thanked, later..
I wouldn't call this a downfall. Kasey had an underrated career. He was great at Evernham and even the first 3 years at HMS. Hendrick Motorsports was the real downfall. Kasey's career just didn't end the way everyone wanted it to. The season is only 3 races in, and Byron isn't doing any better. If anything, he did worst last year. 18 wins plus 2 non-points wins is a solid career, plus he's 50th on the all time wins list.
Two corrections. The legal issues between Kasey and Ford were a bit more complicated than you presented. Ford had promised that he would have the next open Ford in Cup. But when Yates ran a third car for the Bristol night race, they went the nepotistic route and gave Jason Jarrett the ride. Kahne leaving for Dodge makes more sense in that context. Secondly, Mayfield didn't get Kasey's 2005 team for 2006. That went to Scott Riggs, who went on to have his career best year in '06 (admittedly, 20th in points isn't great, but it's slightly better than Kahne's '05.) Meantime, Jeremy had to start from scratch for '06.
his carrier was better than most even the great ones struggle but to hang on for the old glory is pointless it made him rich and he can live a comfortable life I wish him good health and happiness he deserve respect from all the fans
I miss watching him race. Still have my #9 dodge hoodie. The commercials with kk were good too. I remember the joke " hey Kasey, I met your sister " " KANDY KAHNE" 😊😊
You got the part about him going to evernham backwards, ford broke their contract with him by putting Jason jarrett in the Yates 98 car at talladega in 2003, Kahne had in his contract with ford that he would get the next ford/Yates cup ride, this allowed Kahne to go to dodge and evernham who offered Kahne not just one start but a full season. Ford tried to grief in court but it was too late
Kasey had many years with flashes of brilliance behind the wheel. Kenny Francis was a crew chief for him for many years and although a very talented crew chief maybe the pairing of the two was too long. Many drivers were also afraid to admit to the effects of concussions as they would not be cleared by doctors to race. It's a very competitive sport and results have to be there and if you don't have all the right people and equipment around you the results will be less than desired. I always liked Kasey he was likeable, and appeared to be a very genuine person with everyone.
Yep, Kay Garcia was being quite a bully towards Avery Bottoms. But prior to Regan Smith's Talladega race, she found out Kasey retired. Therefore, Kay stopped bullying Avery, and their friends again. Poor Avery keeps getting bullied.
I'd love to see Kahne start a NASCAR team, he has a dirt racing team, Kasey Kahne Racing, it'd be cool to see him make a Truck entry and then see him occasionally run Eldora, or the K&N LVMS dirt track race.
There was a lawsuit between Farmer's Insurance and Hendrick Motorsports a couple of years ago that made the financials of the deal public. Between 2012-2014, there were bonus cash incentives for wins, top 5 in points, poles, etc. When they renewed for 2015 and beyond those incentives were removed, and Hendrick just received the money to put Farmer's on the car, nothing more. Although it was already declining, the performance definitely tanked during the second contract

David T look at kasey kahne, he was an epic fail, Hendrick has been in a slump for years, I hope they get the ship righted so that Jimmie can go out on top
Two main things stick out to me when assessing Kahne: He NEVER had a Crew Chief who was good at Strategizing AND His Restarts Royally SUCKED! When He went to HMS, i was hoping His RESTART issue would be Addressed and fixed--but it Never was!
wow imagine Kasey got a chance to drive the 41 this season with Stewart Haas being as good as they have been, i think that def could’ve revived his career a little
Except, he would be sidelined, with a Kase of the Dehydrations, for Stewart-Haas, instead. Quite the Kahneundrum. Oh, okay. The idea, is, so he can have Dehydration Hallucinations and run Stewart the hell, over. Good idea and a potentially viral one, at that. If Stewart is part of a Video, which achieves "Viral" status, i wonder if said Video would be referred to, as "This Video Done Went Tantrum", what with his temper tantrums and all.
He got scared. Look at the wreck in New Hampshire and the interview Dr. Jerry Punch did with him. Kasey was in a different dimension. He got his bell rung and all it takes is that one time
I feel bad Kasey Kahnes career went wrong. He should have won way more races and was a champion caliber drivers. His teams in cups weren't always on top nor was he always the main focus. I honestly think he would of been a contender with the right team and crew. His talent went to waste after 2011. He was strong at HMS from 2012-2014 but things clearly didn't go well after that.Kasey Kahne is a great driver and he's probably one of the most under rated drivers we've seen and his fall is ultimately down to bad management
When he had a good car which was rare but when he did he would put it in the wall or he would get caught up by someone like danica . i just think he found it hard in the shadow of the other three. Big names, nascar royalty. Like someone said and i have seen in outlaws he is a jet....a talented driver just not one of the best

NASCAR Edition
You seem like a NASCAR version of that NRF guy.
Great freaking video! Can we make this a series? Maybe the downfall of Petree Racing?
Fall. Tree. Woods Brothers. Whiskey Barrels. Charcoal. Moonshine. It all makes sense, now.
I saw him in WoO for my bday in Oct, he was not too bad. I cant see him outside of Nascar to this day. Love you Kasey!!!!
Kahne, Stewart ,Earnhardt, Edwards, Kenseth, Gordon, Biffle, it's sad to see these guys go they retired too young.
Nascar has suffered due to that. The personalities are somewhat cliche and immature these days.
Carl Ewards just quit without saying anything why he left, never heard why Kenseth and Biffle are gone....Kahne,Stewart,Earnhardt and Gordon left because of health reasons everyone should know this, most everyone knows why these 4 left......wake up people!!!!
I think Carl must have landed on his head during a back flip out of his car? He was just too embarrassed to admit it & left quietly?
HMS has struggled to find speed for 3+ years - not all KK fault
Rule changes are a bitch.
1320crusier YES
I remember meeting him at a signing gig at a Bass Pro Shop in 2005 when I was 11, I just remember being star-struck since he was my favorite driver. From what I could gather, he was just a chill guy. The rumor I heard from my parents was I was the only one they allowed him to take a photo with. That could be entirely BS, but I don't care. All I know is I met him there, he signed my hat and I got to take a photo with him. It's really quite the shame his career wasn't as big as he deserved.
4:49 anyone else notice those tires say Hoosier?
Nascar used to run on Hoosiers at one point
This saddens me, for obvious reasons. He'll always be my favorite though. Even though at one point he was a Cup leech in the Trucks and Xfinity Series.
He got screwed
While racing he generally was a nice guy on the track. He wasn't the type of driver to be highly aggressive which could of cost him better finishes. I liked that about him. I agree that being in that fourth Hendrick car put him at a disadvantage compared to the 24,48,and 88 teams. At some point it appeared that he lost that "passion" for racing in NASCAR. His focus shifted toward family (primarily his son) and back to dirt racing. I hope returning to dirt racing goes well for him, even tho I miss watching him driving in the Cup Series. Still a huge fan.
As of right now, his Dirt racing team is doing really well and is even on a cover of a video game
@@DEIFAN I didn't know about the game cover but my son and I are still fans of his dirt team.
@@elviscobb5922 I think its his driver of the NAPA car being in the outlaws game cover.
I guess you can say he didn’t meet his expectations, I’m sure he’s made millions and I’m sure he’s living comfortably.
He was a driver that never lived up to expectations (I’m a Kahne fan)
People forget that Kahne was in a super hyped rookie class that consisted of Vickers, Gaughan, Wimmer, Riggs and Sauter. Compared to all of those guys, I felt that Kahne wasn't by any means the favorite. Outside of Vickers, Kahne extremely exceeded expectations and outlasted all of those guys, who I say (except Vickers to a degree) are all Cup Series BUSTS.
Gaughan wasn’t very hyped. Also, the 77 was basically a Penske in the way that the 21 is a ‘Penske’.
I think he probably has had too many concussions and wasn't ever the same after some point. I remember a post-crash interview he had once and he seemed completely out of it.
man you just ragged on him the entire time ... you didnt even talk about his last win at all ...
JUST put him in a super late model $10,000 to win tour
He could start a Ghetto Go-Kart League, "Kasey Kahne's Karts for Kool, Kolored Kids." Best part, is, the Government would provide funding and not be thanked, later..
Last few years at Hendricks proved he was past it.
Hey, he's doing great in USAC. Remember him kicking ass in Smokes invitational dirt mod races.
I think he really got messed up at Indy in 2017 and that was what ultimately led to his retirement
That was a lucky win. His crash at Sonoma in the windows sponsored car changed him. He was never the same after that crash
The faster you come up the faster you fall.
Coming soon: The Downfall of Jimmie Johnson. How It Occurred.
areasevenpro after the video is made JIMMIE JOHNSON WINS IS 8TH CHAMPIONSHIP AT HOMESTEAD
@@dqqdaddq Maybe on NASCAR Heat 3.
They forgot how to get by with cheating
NASCAR is watching Knaus very closely. lol
@@brianb.1883 Knaus? I thought he's with Byron already.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it was really good!
That went to Scott Riggs, who went on to have his career best year in '06 (admittedly, 20th in points isn't great, but it's slightly better than Kahne's '05.) Meantime, Jeremy had to start from scratch for '06.
he was my favorite driver :(
“Chip Ganassi Racing is a team piggybacking off of Kyle Larson alone” That’s gonna be an oof from me
That didn't age well.
It's now piggybacking off Kurt Busch's talent rather than Larson
Also, shoutouts to the Great Clips scheme. Love it
The Red Bull paint scheme was the Best.
I'm surprised was even competitive in their blisteringly mediocre equipment
Just found your channel and I can tell you it's absolutely fxcking brilliant ,well done👍👍👍👍
Even though I don’t have a TH-cam channel am I still considered a supporter of you
his carrier was better than most even the great ones struggle but to hang on for the old glory is pointless it made him rich and he can live a comfortable life I wish him good health and happiness he deserve respect from all the fans
I liked Kahne. Miss him
What was the second song you used?
Kasey is a very talented driver. It's sad he had to go away from the Big Show the way he did. God Bless you Kasey. Keep on, keepin on
The downfall of Hendricks Motorsports preceded Kasey's downfall, poor equipment and health problems.
I miss watching him race. Still have my #9 dodge hoodie. The commercials with kk were good too. I remember the joke " hey Kasey, I met your sister " " KANDY KAHNE" 😊😊
Sad to see him go 😭😭
I took a break from Racing because of my dad's passing. But Kacey was always my favorite
Strange question. Your voice sounds familiar. Do you have another TH-cam channel?

Man my grandparents said that when I was a kid (2-3) I would watch kasey and he was my favorite driver until he retired, I was at Atlanta when he won and I was so happy, i miss me and my grandfather routing for our drivers (jr and kasey) no all I can do is hope for the big one to happen
I STILL have his old Evernham No. 9 Hat... and yes, a lot of it had to do with bad teams and bad equipment, which possibly foreshadows his career decline....
Hendrick’s mistake, not hiring keselowski
Why did Hendrick get rid of Kyle Busch? Look what he has done since.
Helllll no . Brad k has underperformed honestly 1 championship in that great equipment ? He’s a cry baby that’s his issue wahh my life is so tough
David T look at kasey kahne, he was an epic fail, Hendrick has been in a slump for years, I hope they get the ship righted so that Jimmie can go out on top
jay capp It’s Toyota... that’s why.
You should also do the rising of a team or driver like furniture row or maybe in the future Ross Chastain
It really happened after his concussion (I’m guessing) at louden 2013
In 5 years you'll be doing this exact same video on Kyle Larson and I'll be watching it
Bro... that's crazy lol i had thought of this also
I always wondered if he was doing research and development when he was driving the 5 for Hendrick
He got scared. Look at the wreck in New Hampshire and the interview Dr. Jerry Punch did with him. Kasey was in a different dimension. He got his bell rung and all it takes is that one time
I remember that crash.
Kasey was electrifying to watch at Skagit Speedway when he was in sprint cars.
When he switched from Dodge to chevy
