This beautiful bird and the brushstrokes you used to create it are WONDERFUL. I have watched several watercolor artists paint birds, but I have NEVER seen anyone do so "freehand," without drawing the image first. To me, your not doing so is much "truer" to what watercolors are all about. May I ask whether you painted this bird from memory, or were you glancing at a photograph or other reference image while you were working?
