When decorating with misc items, try dropping them then quicksave and reload before placing them. Lights: there are a few misc items you can find that light up or have animated displays, i always pick up these for dark corners
I pretty much play this game nonstop. However, Earth is the biggest letdown. They should have left small settlements on Earth who refused to leave the planet.
Maybe I’m mistaken, but, as far as decorating with clutter goes; it seems like if you drop the item, go into build mode & move it to where you want then fast travel to maybe New Atlantis or something like that (probably just make sure you leave your current planet & system). When you return any items you placed WILL clip through whatever they were placed on, however, if you go back into build mode, then grab the item & re-place it down, I’ve found that it won’t sink back through again no matter how many times you fast travel in & out of your outpost. Items that are dropped & picked up manually (just holding A or whatever it is on PC) still seem to randomly clip through whatever they were placed on, since you don’t have a way to “lock” them in place. This method has worked for me & with the objects that you move in BUILD mode becoming static it can really help an outpost go from bland to an authentic, living in feel. Although it may be buggy at times, coming from a long time fan of all Bethesda games & sandbox games alike, this outpost building system is leaps & bounds ahead of the likes of Fallout 4 & 76, at launch & to date. Yes, it can be tweaked & improvements can certainly be made, it is a seriously really solid foundation to go off of.
I made an outpost on earth and used the Empire State Building as the center piece. It ended up looking awesome. Although, I prefer having an outpost setup by the ocean or lakeside. Just looks so much cooler to me
I'm surprised more people haven't done something similar. When mods come out, I plan to "recolonise" (and hopefully terraform) Earth. I want colonies/based at all the landmarks (with the landmarks having interior cells that can be built inside and outside) and I plan on using the cloned historical people to live/work at most of them (turning parts of each colony into "living/working museums", so "Cleopatra", et all will be at the Egyptian pyramids, etc). I want glass domes over most of these too and I want to turn the NASA centre into a reclaimed science research centre, space port and museum. When I'm done with Earth, thanks to mods, the place will be amazing (hopefully).
I usually build a bunch of tubs. So when I make a bunch of adaptive frames and get weighed down I drop them on the floor and put them in the plastic tub. I usually have a bunch with just supplies for the next outpost build. I wish their was a plaque or tape so I could label what is in the tubs. Also use the habitat rooms and cut it into pizza slices with 4 linking hallways to build work ares between the door ways. Use the dividers to keep you along the path in the walk way and out of the work area.
Yeah, I heard that the ability to place misc items as static decorations was bugged... Thus I've been using the various display shelves that work like the ones in Fallout 76 for displaying stuff. Unfortunately, most of those only work for smaller objects or are ridiculously oversized... Still, I've gotten good results from using the one stepped shelves display case as greenhouse shelves for displaying all my small plants & succulents I've been liberating in the course of my adventures... Still hoping they add more buildable items in future updates, or the creator of OCDecorator can port that mod over to Starfield when they release the Creation Kit.
Loved the video @kort867! Can't wait for the next video man! That's Earth in Starfield? Bethesda.... This is sadly par for the Course for you guys! Oh dear God, why'd they make it look like people of Earth left after Fallout 4 and/or 76 LMAO? It looks like All the Buildings of History just Collapsed and Decomposed into the Ground beneath them, even the Great Pyramids of Giza didn't last into Starfields time! Also, What's your Ships name? Hopefully not the Prydwen!
a very functional and well balanced outpost I liked it, one question the resources did you get them or buy them, what is the best way to do this? thank you for your reply😊
Great vid man, nice to see. One quick question thats been nagging me; you mentioned that there no real indoor light wich leads me to ask about the cumpters avd screens you can decorate with; is there a way to get them running or are they meant to remain black screen?
Damn, its a shame about the decorations, especially the lights. I was looking forward to building my first base and decorating it with all my goodies. Still, you did well with what you could.

This also works for me and I agree, the system is a solid foundation. Can't wait for mdos!

Buying them is the easiest way to get resources in my opinion. Sorry for taking so long to answer your comment :)
hopefully you come back to this series

Npc pirates can attack your outpost while you are there or not?
Not if you build "Crate/foundation walls" (look it up) all around the base.
We need a railing dlc lol
I feel that Starfield was supposed to be NMS plus the best bits of Fallout 4 but failed to deliver either properly. 😏

Indeed, I am looking forward to seeing what outpost mods fix the decoration issues. Appreciate your comment :)
Hate to hear placing items is a problem, but Im sure all u awesome gamers will find us ways. Thanx so much, Peace
It's a Buginfesta game and this bug has been prevalent since at least Skyrim. Nothing to see here... ;)
Can you give us a top-down view with the building mode?
❤
Is it possible to build an outpost on too of the Great Pyramid?
How do you get the animal head figures?
Research decorations at the research workbench
