  • At Blade Show 2023 Reese Weiland gives a demonstration and discussion on the new slide release automatic mechanism. Some great technical knife talk from the stiletto company Latama. An interesting story how this button lock modification was developed.

Will these knives be mass produced in China? Who are James Fang and Princeton Wong who also have their names on the build of these knives? With Angelo now partnering with China with his new "AKC WORLD" line, seems even the Italians are going the China route.

I don't know the whole story but production was looked at by some big, American, producers but no deal was made. As far as I know only a few have been made by a custom maker. I asked if these will be made in Italy at the Latama factory and was told definitely not. Walt works with some Chinese Americans but I don't think there is an alliance with China factories. I briefly met James Fang and all I gathered was he was a bit of a consultant for Walt although he seems to own a small knife company. Overall things are still very early with this knife. It was a very busy 3 days so I didn't hang out very long with Walt. I only know as much as I know because I got involved with the design early on. I thought it was a stupid design. But now seeing how the plan got tweaked by Reese I admit I am very impressed. It work beautiful! I don't know why it didn't win Best New Design at the Blade Show.

Princeton Wong is Prince Customs in Houston, and he makes everything in house in the USA for the 30 or so custom made thus far. I'm working with Walt on the logistics for larger scale production, and we're currently looking at US production as our first preference. Just Asian American names, not some guarantee of offshoring for this project :P
