    Phenomenal video! Great coverage of Cubas endemic wildlife, the current diversity, and the very rich Pleistocene megafauna and Fauna, the giant owl is incredible, one of the top apex carnivores, and the black bear sized ground sloths of Cuba quite awesome, and how many species as well as distinct niches of each species. Also it’s quite interesting that the largest apex terrestrial adapt carnivore in Cuba is still extant, currently living mainly on land and also in the zapata swamp habitat, but during the Pleistocene cuban crocodiles were much larger 5m or more which is quite cool.

    I'm really curious if Cuban crocs could survive from going extinct, then maybe a million years down the road Earth might see a resurgence of the Terrestrial Crocs?

      There are already in talks of rewilding Cuban crocodiles in terrestrial ecosystems, landscapes in the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic would be another good rewilding area for Cuban crocs which once existed on that island. And regarding the terrestrial adapt Cuban croc, based on isotopic data on Cuban croc bones form the Bahamas, found it lived in a terrestrial rather than aquatic food web, and we’re to the top terrestrial carnivore on those islands as well besides Cuba.

    It is actually believed that humans didn’t hunt the native species of ground sloth to extinction. But could have lived along side it for thousands of years.

    I really liked the video except for the whole part about Ornimegalonyx. All the paleoart used except the one in black and white is either bad or outdated. Ornimegalonyx didn't have such long skinny legs, and it's mostly wrongly depicted as a giant burrowing owl when in reality it was closer to the owls of the genus Strix. Also, owls in general have fairly long legs, they just look short cause they're covered by their plumage, same goes for Ornimegalonyx. Some of the very few good paleoart of this animals are a couple made by Joschua Knuppe and a size chart by randompaleonerd

      I was very scarce on images and regrettably I don't have the resources to hire any of the talented artists in this community for less dated imagery. Thank you for your input I really appreciate it though, in future I will try to use stock footage instead of compromising to low quality art. I also am not sure on the ownership stuff to do with Joschua Knuppe and Randompaleonerd, though I'll look into it. Thanks again.

    Hey, don't pay any mind to any weird comments you get about Cuba from US Americans.
    The way they were taught about (and how their media showcases) Cuba is really skewed. Not trying to start any discourse or anything as that's not the point of your video, but they're basically taught to have a knee-jerk reaction to anything that sounds slightly positive about cuba (hense the reaction of some to the word "successful"). I have a few American friends that told me about this. Again, not trying to start anything, but if you get some questions asking if you're a communist then that would be why lel
    Shoving that aside now, I love this video! The humor in the images you used was great too. Very much appreciate seeing more people credit artists.
    I've heard of the giant flightless owl before, but not a lot about the other fauna. The flightless crane was very interesting to me. And scary to think about. Giant birds are freaky to me. I'll be tuning in to see more of your content! Excited to see how your channel grows and improves!

I tried to stay pretty neutral in my wording but as you said some Americans have a 'knee jerk' reaction to Cuba, which I really appreciate you acknowledging. I am so thankful for the kind words you have made my day! Genuinely flightless birds are a huge passion of mine so expect these nightmare fuelled creatures to show up again xD

    It's always been thought that Cuba originated where Hawaii is now and may have been a Hawai'ian Island. The soils from both are remarkedly similar.

    • @Murammassa
      @Murammassa 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      That doesn't make sense from our understanding of plate tectonics, additionally the oldest Hawaiian Islands are towards the northwest. The only reason the rocks would be similar is that Cuba also has had volcanic activity building up some of its land😊

    • @GPrinceps
      @GPrinceps 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      As a Cuban obsessed with Hawaii, I'd love for that to be true, but it's really not. 😅 The geography just doesn't add up... Still, the crazy similarities are there, incl. the shared history with the US, sugar cane everywhere, coffee 24/7, fascinating bird life, native seals, world-famous dances, and more. 😎

      @@Murammassa genius.. I’m also from Cuba. Do your research first before speaking. Cuba originally millions of years ago was in the pacific not in the Caribbean. Central America and South America were not connected yet. It’s not that your “heard” that in the island. Nobody in that island even acres or knows the islands history. So ofc you didn’t “hear” that. Do your research and you’ll learn Cuba was first formed from Volcanic activity in the pacific near Central American and then travel to the Caribbean. Talking about “making stuff up”

      More than 60 years of embargo when you're a small, isolated island in the Caribbean will make progress difficult believe it or not. And you're wrong, they have the most progressive laws on LGBTQ rights, they have a ratio of doctor/patient that is 3 times higher than the US, they invented a unique vaccine against lung cancer and their own covid vaccines. All of this while being under a crippling embargo that has been strangling the Cuban people for decades for the simple "crime" of not wanting to be treated as a cheap brothel by the US and asserting their right to national self determination.
