  • Sansui 1000A - Full Recap And Overhaul. This is a Sansui 1000A hybrid tube/transistor (mostly tube) receiver, made around 1967-1969. I recently overhauled this receiver, and it sounds great now. And before anyone asks why I didn't clean the dial glass, I did clean the outside of it, but not the inside, because on these units and many others of this age, the silk-screened lettering on the inside of the glass will fall off at the slightest touch. It's best to leave the dust and the lettering alone, rather than to get rid of both!

Good luck finding the original twist lock format cap, used in the tube MC-40 amp voltage doubler. No one makes them anymore. yes, there are folks that stuff old form factor shells with new caps, but I'm only going that route if the cap is normally visible, and is part of how the piece presents itself, as the labor to build those makes them quite pricey. In this case, went to clamp form factor. It's under the deck, out of sight.

This one did not have twist locks, it had caps mounted using clamps on top of the chassis. I found essentially perfect replacements from a company called Mojo Tone. www.mojotone.com/amp-shop/electronics/capacitors/type/Electrolytic.
