- JUNE 2018 - My friend and I rented a car and did a week-long road trip across the beautiful Italian island of paradise: Sardinia (the Northern part). Some of the bluest waters that I've ever seen in my life! Beautiful scenic views of mountains, beaches, goats, and caves - so much to explore!
I highly recommend it, which is why I created this travel guide and vlog of our travels for you :)

I grew up in Palau, Sardinia until moving to Miami in 07. Life in Sardinia is unlike any other place. Although I am greatful for the opportunities living in America has afforded me, I cannot wait to retire and go back to my beautiful Gallura
This is my wife’s home island. We love Sardegna. Especially La Maddalena.

Yes Bali has so many gorgeous beaches with great waves and pretty turquoise waters Alex. In Indonesia not only Bali but also so many other islands that have great beaches such as Nusa Penida, Lombok, & Flores. Should visit.

the next time you come to us in Sardinia I suggest you visit "Cala Luna", I think it is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. I advise you to also visit "San Leonardo", among natural fountains, huge trees and breathtaking views. Ps your video is really amazing, great shots and fantastic places

What would you recommend as the best area to stay for 4 days? We want restaurants, some nightlife, and definitely great swimming!

@@alexadejesus814 oh boy! Well, we really enjoyed Santa Teresa di Gallura because of its superb location! The town itself is so cute, the beach is beautiful, and there are so many beautiful spots within an hour or two drive, which makes it a great place to have as a home base for a few days. We didn't get to explore much of the area of Cala Gonone, but just do some research and see if it would be more worth it for you to stay there to visit the places in the surrounding area. I guess it comes down to personal preference! You really can't go wrong with any place you choose in Sardinia because it's all incredible😍 the nightlife in Alghero was pretty good too! Lots to see and do there as well. Hope you have a beautiful trip!!
@@alexadejesus814 You can go to Cala Gonone, Orosei, Budoni, San Teodoro, there's only so many places you can choose if you want all the things you asked...

@@surushhsurus891 About the car... it all depends where you going to stay. Some places like Alghero are well connected to the Airport and local beaches. So you don't actually need a car every single day. But if you go somewhere else, just rent it for a week - there are several companies that have very interesting price for "city car" and "compact cars" - don't waste money on a big car! Go to the supermarket and buy groceries there for your lunch, avoid restaurants for tourists (if the menu is written mainly in English, then there are good chances you are not going to eat well for what you are paying)

@@surushhsurus891 Hi Surush, I will also add a tip about saving money because we also did this trip on a very low budget. We paid 35-40 euros per night for 1 private room in a shared Airbnb apartment. When we split it for two people, it wasnt too bad paying about 20 euros each per night. The prices in Sardinia are a bit more expensive than in Italy. Be sure to check out the accommodations on Airbnb.com. The rental car company called InterRent had the best prices that we could find at the time, so I suggest looking into them.

Travel to the north if you like clear seas and tidy beaches and if you also got loads of money...travel to the centre of Sardinia if you like food, vines and genuine honest people without being ripped off.

Hi Aneta, we rented from the company called InterRent. We booked online before our trip and we picked up our car at the Alghero Airport. We didn't have any problems with this company, so yes I would recommend them. Renting a car is the best way to see the island!

Can you tell me what beach that is around 7:45 or pin it? I believe that is the beach I used to swim at when I was around 2-6 years old when I lived on La Maddalena. My dad was in the Navy and was stationed there from 79-84.
Aww those must be pretty nice memories. Yes I believe that beach is called "Spiaggia Cala Francese" in Capo Testa.

Hi Zoran, my apologies for the late reply. I believe the beach that you are referring to was called "Spiaggia Rena Bianca" and yes, it was a white sand beach. 🙂

Hi I'm going june this year how is the weather in june and how is the temperature of the sea
It was beautiful weather!!! Hot, but not too hot because the breeze from the sea keep it a nice temp. It was probably between 25 - 30 degrees Celsius from what I remember. And the water was so warm!!!!!! Perfect time to go. Enjoy your trip! 😊

I know that is weird to ask but I’m kind of scared to see what because it will break my heart and ruin my trip….and my boyfriend will kill me if I take a dog home LOL
Aww so lucky! Hmm no I don't recall seeing any stray dogs in Sardinia. There were many in Sicily unfortunately and that broke my heart 😭😭😢

Awesome video! How was the rental car and which company did you use? Was it difficult to find parking spots? I´m going there with my gf in june, and we´re thinking of doing a roadtrip-ish vacation as well :D
Thank you!! The rental car was great! We rented from the company InterRent and we did not experience any issues. We didn't have any troubles finding parking spots..it was rather easy :) I would definitely recommend renting a car if you're going to Sardinia and want to see more than just one town. The buses aren't the greatest, and with a car you will save more time without having to wait for buses to arrive. You will also have a lot more freedom and flexibility to explore the island. I wish you both a beautiful time in Sardinia! You will love it!

@@lukaszszydlowski8147 Cześć Łukasz. Korzystaliśmy z wypożyczalni Interrent, rezerwacji dokonaliśmy przez stronę www.billiger-mietwagen.de/. Auto było ubezpieczone w pełni online i na miejscu nie braliśmy dodatkowego ubezpieczenia przez co zabezpieczyli depozyt, nie pamiętamy ile, ale była to duża kwota. Z wypożyczalnia nie mieliśmy żadnych problemów i jedyne co to należy Ci polecić, żebyś dokładnie sprawdził auto przy odbiorze.

my boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Sardinia but cant decide where to stay theres just so many amazing places. your trip looks beautiful where would you recommend to stay thats close to a city centre so we can have dinners/lunches but also drive to explore lots of beautiful beaches. Should we stay in Olbia and just drive around for the days? or more up the coast in Santa Teresa Gallura?

Hi Francesca, it's true - everywhere in Sardinia is so beautiful!!! If you're planning to explore the northern part, I'd say that Santa Teresa di Gallura is a perfect location to stay and travel from, just like we did. The city center is so cute - there are many little shops, Gelato cafés, restaurants, and the beach is so close and incredibly beautiful!! We stayed 3 nights at an Airbnb in Santa Teresa di Gallura. From Santa Teresa, you can do day-trips to La Maddalena Islands, all the way out to Olbia even! I guess it depends on what you want to see. We didn't spend much time in Olbia, but from the few hours one evening that we did spend there, we liked Santa Teresa di Gallura more. Maybe in your research you will find which location suits your travel plans best :) Regardless of where you will end up staying, I know that you will love it!

I have heard bad stories from thailand and other places with regards to renting cars, motorcycles, boats etc this can be used as a money making scheme. Is renting cars in sardinia a safe thing to do or do you have to watch out. I would really like to rent a car to see as much of the place as possible but this is a worry of mines. ( im referring to maybe a dent or a scratch not seen when renting the car during a check before taking off and then this being put on you as a hefty charge on handing the car back.)
Well, you should ALWAYS do a thorough check for any vehicle that you rent in any country when you first receive it, to check it for scratches and report it to the car rental agency before you leave with the vehicle. My friend who I traveled with worked for a car rental agency, so he knew what to look for and checked it before we left with the car. I haven't heard any bad stories about car rental scams in Italy and we had a positive experience.

Hey Alex great video! Could you let me know how much you spent on your car rental I’m looking on renting a car for two weeks in northern Sardinia and am getting ridiculous quotes of 1300-1600 dollars for just the basic car.

Oh I'm sorry, I would not be able to remember this information. It was 3 years ago. We went with the rental company at the airport and we didn't have any problems
The company we booked our rental car was called InterRent. We booked online prior to our arrival and it's at Alghero Airport. It's cheaper when you rent a manual car instead of automatic
Car rentals are high in most places since 2020. Not only here. I'm sorry for that.
If I am visiting from the US; what city should I fly into.......to get to Sardinia?? I have been to Rome but I think it'll be too far to fly in & transit from Rome!!!
Italians toke ship from Rome to Sardinia but there is the airport of Olbia in the north of Sardinia
We flew into and out of Alghero, Sardinia. Not sure if that would be a good option for you?

Cala Luna während der Hauptsaison lohnt sich nicht. Die anderen Strände, die man mit den Ausflugsbooten anfährt, sind viel schöner. Für diese Trips sollte aber die Sonne scheinen, sonst kann man das Farbenspiel des Meeres nicht sehen.

Bit more hit and miss weather wise in Oct, some nice weather but a few days of rain too. Northern Sardinia gets v quiet from mid/late Oct as a lot of hotels and restaurants close down. Still beautiful to see. Cagliari in the south stays more open as it’s the capital. Sept would be ideal as still warm, not too crowded but everything still open. I lived in Italy for 6 years, working as an airline pilot and was often based out of Algero and Cagliari - stunning island, I also had my honeymoon there - rented a boat along the NE coastline - magic!

Nicola Beattie Hi, we rented it from Golfo Aranci, went north along the coast to Porto Rotondo for lunch, then Porto Cervo - stunning little bays to swim in along the way - water visibility is exceptional to snorkel. That was in July though, starts to cool down from mid Sept. I don’t have the boat rental number any longer unfortunately. But well worth it. Don’t need a boat licence up to 40hp, which is fine for a 5.5m RIB, although I have a licence and took a 60hp.

We paid 35-40 euros per night for 1 private room in a shared Airbnb apartment. When we split it for two people, it wasnt too bad paying about 20 euros each per night. The prices in Sardinia are a bit more expensive than in Italy, that's for sure. Yes, I would definitely recommend renting a car. It will allow you to see more parts of the island with more freedom and flexibility

Ohhh.... :( I really wanted to go to Stintino! And it was even on my travel list when we were planning our trip, but then we ran out of time to go :( I especially wanted to see the Sardinian albino donkeys in Asinara Island!
