Thanks for sharing these videos! It's nice to see real peoople working on old stuff and describing it as they go along like I would! Very informative, very thorough and very real... By watching, I now understand how the governor assembly works. Swapping weights on a 727 could likely be done with the trans in the car.... I think?
So....after all this, did it work? Did you have any issues? Also, if I can offer a some constructive criticism, it really gets frustrating to see how its supposed to work, then you cut, then it's on. At the beginning of this series, we watched all the steps, warts and all. I'd rather spend the time watching how it "didn't" work, then see how you got there instead of just explaining how it's supposed to work. It will take longer but we're here to learn. As a newbie, I could read a book to tell me how it's supposed to work, but it rarely shows the tricks to the problem areas. You did that during the tear down, but started cutting during the rebuild. I really enjoyed this series and will use it as a reference for my first time 904 build. Have to finish the motor first. Thanks for doing this!
I noticed this too. It seemed to escalate the further he got into the project, it started out really detailed and step-by step, but eventually morphed into "I got it in, here's how I did it." And now that I've gotten this far it looks like he never finished the series. Shame really, he had some good information for us.
I too have a 1973 Dart! Watching every minute of this. So far this is one of the best DIY series I have seen on YT! Keep em coming sir! New subscriber!
Hey Tyler, I have a a904/30rh in a jeep that only had 1st and reverse after a rebuild. I pulled my governor to see if it was sticking and found no debris in it. What else would cause only 1st and reverse?
Does it go into neutral when it shifts to second or does the shift to second just not occur? The kick down band has to apply to create second gear, so that's where I would look first. Either the band adjustment, it's anchorage and apply servo. Good luck.
@@TylersNeighborhoodGarage I just found remains of the plastic filter in the governer it was blocking fluid flow to the valve. Maybe this was the issue?
My son has an 88 Ramcharger with a sizable leak from front of transmission, not shift shaft seal or dipstick tube o ring. I called a shop and they said it didn't have a front seal, needed a rebuild? From a previous video you mentioned a possible rebuild if bushing was worn out. If the pump bushing and seal are replaced would that take care of problem?
It has a front seal. It's just a plain 3-speed A727 I'm sure in that year. Conventional wisdom holds that something usually CAUSES a leaking front seal, so, since the transmission needs to come out anyway to replace it, you need to be prepared that something is wrong with the pump bushing or the torque converter hub, which usually is excess wear. If you find that. you can probably get away with a pump bushing and torque converter, but...if you are in it that far, you may as well freshen it up. Rebuild kits for those are not expensive, so do NOT be taken advantage of if you decide to have it overhauled. Avoid the chains and find a recommended independent shop who will be glad to put their name on what they do.
@@TylersNeighborhoodGarage Tyler, that's very reassuring. I spent all summer rebuilding the top end of the 318. She is a very capable 4x4. I want to keep her on the road.
a guy on another video that owns a transmission shop said to never pish the bushing out the back always through and out the front!
I am not a professional but if you build the pump on the converter it will line up perfectly

Hahaha that f.a.g. brand. I hear they make good stuff though.
