I agree! After watching DB there are so many things that I notice in DBZ! And it really does deepen the story and certain relationships between characters seem more important. :)
Great video, I recently got this set and am loving it. Me and wife are watching it, with it being her first time. A lot of fun to see her reactions reminding me of how it feels to watch for the first time.

people who hate on super or since they finished z even 15 years ago wishing theres more dbz to watch, i hope they do realize theres 13 non canon dbz films, 2 canon films, 4 semi canon ova specials, 4 non canon db films, 153 og dragonball episodes im sure they have not yet watched, 1 non canon gt film 64 gt eps ...theres plenty of dragonball im sure you haven't fully seen so..plus the 291 dbz eps ..508 total eps 24 films..thats a lot ...

Louis Belmonte They have only ever re-dubbed the Saiyan and Freeza sagas for Z. Unless you grew up with the Ocean dub, yes, these are the English Z voices you are familiar with.

they come with the booklets but they also lack the hd quality of the remaster..but they are formatted a lot better with less cropped out and the grain being left in gives it texture instead of feeling cartooney and overly colorful it really makes the darks intense and pop out more like a comic book which I enjoy..
I also love Raditz XD Also i love the blurays, they are better then the orange bricks and better then KAI. The fillers in the saiyan sage are the best!

with my 5 year old we read the manga pages and then watch the episode. we just finished regular dragonball and just started the first chapter and episode of DBZ.
Its nice to see a lady that's a fellow dragon ball fan. I remember watching dbz back when it aired in US/Can in the 90s but never truly appreciated it until recently at 39 years old when I revisited the series as a result bought every season bluray and individual movies, including all vol up to date of Dragon ball Super, Original Dragonball, & of course even GT. GT definitely is the weaker of the series but had two story arcs which I enjoyed, the Super android 17 saga, & the baby saga. DBZ is like a masterpiece in my opinion you gotta have it in your collection. I know alot of people weren't big on the Buu saga but I really liked it, especially the epic moment of Majin Vegeta having his brief heart warming moment with Trunks before he dies in battle. My favourites are Vegeta, then Broly, lastly Android 18. 😃👍
Besides the dragon boxes, I don't think there's a single Funimation US release of DBZ without his score. Well, the series' that had it, that is, seeing as he didn't do the music for series 1 and 2.
+Mama Micah mines will be season 2 because there is so much going on like vegeta starts to help the good guys but only for his own benefit the Ginyu force, Zarbon and dodoria. We finally meet Frieza. Also I love the planet namek the colors and the sky. Everything leads up to super Saiyan Goku in season 3!!!👍🏾
First 45 seconds i realize why goku was the only character to go ss3. It was like an homage to raditz his brother because raditz had long hair, and goku looks kinda like raditz in ss3 except without eyebrows.
The only thing I didn't like about the blu ray seasons is they're cropped in 16 by 9 where the heads are cut off in alot of pictures. I have all the old single dvds and the picture actually looks better than the blu ray seasons cause they aren't cropped like the blu ray seasons
Not sure if anyone knows this but actually Akira Toriyama originally wanted to end the series with the Frieza saga. That is why it feels like the stories beyond the frieza saga don't follow the same continuety as with the rest of the story from Dragonball to Z with the saiyan/frieza saga's.
@@amadorcortinas2749 Uhh im afraid it is true. Much of the later stories were retroactively incerted with out any prior concieved narative planning or execution. It is quite eviden by the fact that certain twists and story have no real bearing on the Saiyan Origin development plot since its first concept was hinted at all the way back in DB. Akira toriyama even noted that he regrets DBZ going on for so much longer and wanted to end it at the freiza saga since that was supposed to be his complete ending how ever because of the massive popularity of Dragonball, it continued and especially the demographic was far more popular outside Japan amongst shonen fans.

@@amadorcortinas2749 Alot of fans that are unfamiliear think Dragonball is actually Japanese, well it was written by a japanese author so i guess technically it is, but Dragonball borrows many more cultural asthetics and themes from Chinese culture, not japanese. Akira Toriyama is like Oda, he is quite inspired by alot of different depictions and themes of story telling. This is honestly why the Legecy of Dragonball Continues other then its popularity. Everything from the Gi's, the martial arts, names and places, the energy within depicted as CHI and even the dragons are all china depicted and dragonball being heavly influenced by Journey West that is no suprise. That being said much like One piece, Dragonball has alot of material that toriyama likes to explore. If he had it his way, he would have continued it forever which is probably why the legacy of DB never died and it eventually returned in Super. That being said though, he did eventually regret where the story was going and how it was typical of this rinse and repeat cycle of defeating villians, He was also scared of the fact that Son Goku was getting to powerful and he was not able to concieve a story where goku just continues to grow. So he did have some worries with the franchise as well thus is why he chose to end it at the buu saga. He was also extremly fond of his Freiza arc and Saiyan origin stories because these were the plots he had conceptualized from the start. Which probably explains why Super is touted as directly tying into the stories surrounding the Frieza arc and Saiyan arcs respectfully. Almost everything regarding CELL and Buu are ignored entirely in Super and for good reason. So he aims to make the continuety of the Dragon ball Verse even more solid and consistent then what it originally was.
Me too but it's very hard between season 3-6 is amazing and season 7 is awful and season 8 and 9 is ok and season 1 and 2 are good but I still love the shoe this is still all my opinion

The entire franchise is debatable among which seasons, movies, and games are better but DBZ was entirely entertaining. However, my biggest gripe was how the original content was censored. If anything, it needed more blood/gore and more. My favorites are the Frieza, Cell, and Buu sagas; they're the ultimate trinity of darkness I could repeat viewing.
Vegeta is my favourite character too, in my opinion he is part of what made the show interesting going from a bad guy to a good guy throughout the series, my favourite seasons are 5, 6 and 8, and the Vegeta voice by Chris Sabat in the last 3 seasons is my favourite voice, he re-voiced him in the first few seasons and from the Androids saga it was back to his original voice as it got deeper further into series and it's from the Great Saiyaman saga in the episode I Am Saiyaman which Bulma makes Gohan device that turns him into his Saiyaman outfit we hear the Vegeta voice for the first time which was the last voice of him we heard from there and for the rest of the series
I love Chris Sabat! that voice is my all time favorite anime voice. Those are awesome seasons, I love when Vegeta becomes Majin Vegeta. Throughout the whole series Vegeta is interesting because he is a bad guy at heart, who is seemingly good but still has evil in him. I loved seeing him as a villian one last time near the end :D
Mama Micah The Vegeta Saga is also my favorite. I just wish they had done a part 2 of that saga, where they keep Vegeta as the main villain, and with Goku succeeding in defeating him, and with the fallen Z fighters being revived before The Frieza Saga. This would've made movies 2-4 canon in a way.

I have a question if you'd be so kind. Did they add subtitles for the English dub in this set? I don't mean the sub that you watch with Japanese audio where it's slightly different from the English dub. They didn't do this with Kai so I was wondering if they did in this collection.
Yes and no lol You can turn on the English subtitles while watching the English audio but the dialog doesn't match because it's a translation of the Japanese audio and the English dub is not an exact translation of the Japanese version. So the subtitles do not exactly match the English audio but convey the same general plot. :)

Are you thinking of getting the DBZ Kai blu Ray disc set? Some people are unhappy with the final chapters because it was done by Toei themselves instead of Q-tec who did the first 98 episodes. Toei apparently did a sub par job because they cropped it for 16:9 and added a weird green tint to every episode. They also didn't cut out as much filler as the first 98 episodes did so the pacing is much slower. I found a fan recut who used the audio from Kai the final chapters and put it over the footage from the dragon box set. They cut out more filler and changed around a couple scenes so the pacing is much better and the image quality, colors and aspect ratio are all unchanged so it looks great despite being in a lower resolution than the blu Ray. I'm thinking about buying all of the seasons to have the source material and then burning the fan recut onto some blu Rays to make my own set.

I do gotta say the Saiyan arc was totally the best one. I should say that you should try and hunt down the level sets. there are only two because they were cancelled but they are an amazing way to watch the series.
I bought the DBZ Movie pack on DVD where you get all 13 movies (excluding Bardock & Trunks) for $50. The movies have the same quality has the Orange Bricks. My collection includes the Dragon Ball Blue Bricks, the DBZ Orange Bricks, DBGT Complete series (which was only $25 at Walmart) and the DBZ 13 Movie Pack. All of it is on DVD because they look just as good on DVD. However, Funimation puts more effort into DBZ than Dragon Ball or GT. GT was definitely in 480p while all of Z was in 720p-1080p
Would you know if the movies have the rock songs? Like the coolers revenge I think they had Deftones: Change; when Goku was transforming and the song Change was playing
Still have the orange bricks sets and the stealbook double movie sets. lucky I bought them all stealbook movies back in 2013 they were out of print and rare. lucky I bought trunks and bardock, android 13 and Bojack when they were new coming out in Wal Mart. now there over prize and Rare. you can find them on blu ray. double feature steelbooks are rare now.
unfortunately it's cropped too just like orange bricks, normally the blurays have better cropping, but there are a few places where orange bricks do it better in saiyan saga
The older movies (the double feature and triple feature blu rays) have an option for either the Japanese or the US music tracks that originally aired with the movie. The newer movies (Battle of Gods and Resurrection F) don't have options for the music tracks, the only option is the language and subtitles. :) Hope that helps!

That's really not true the story picks up with the Trunks saga after the Freeza saga in the original story.

One one copy of DBZ doesn't have Bruce Falconer's Score and that's the Dragon Boxes it's just doesn't show up until Season 2 Ep.68.

Vegeta is my favourite character too, in my opinion he is part of what made the show interesting going from a bad guy to a good guy throughout the series, my favourite seasons are 5, 6 and 8, and the Vegeta voice by Chris Sabat in the last 3 seasons is my favourite voice, he re-voiced him in the first few seasons and from the Androids saga it was back to his original voice as it got deeper further into series and it's from the Great Saiyaman saga in the episode I Am Saiyaman which Bulma makes Gohan device that turns him into his Saiyaman outfit we hear the Vegeta voice for the first time which was the last voice of him we heard from there and for the rest of the series
I love Chris Sabat! that voice is my all time favorite anime voice. Those are awesome seasons, I love when Vegeta becomes Majin Vegeta. Throughout the whole series Vegeta is interesting because he is a bad guy at heart, who is seemingly good but still has evil in him. I loved seeing him as a villian one last time near the end :D

Season 1 is also my favorite from DBZ!!! Raditz is my favorite DBZ character of all time plus it sets the tone for the rest of DBZ.

Mama Micah The Vegeta Saga is also my favorite. I just wish they had done a part 2 of that saga, where they keep Vegeta as the main villain, and with Goku succeeding in defeating him, and with the fallen Z fighters being revived before The Frieza Saga. This would've made movies 2-4 canon in a way.
That'd be awesome! I loved Vegeta as a villian. It's one of the reasons I loved the Majin Buu Saga because Vegeta was evil again :D

Thanks so much for watching! The DVDs are not the TV version of the show because they do say words like "damn" and "hell." And Vegeta does give someone the finger in one episode, so it's not the censored TV version. :)
I have a question if you'd be so kind. Did they add subtitles for the English dub in this set? I don't mean the sub that you watch with Japanese audio where it's slightly different from the English dub. They didn't do this with Kai so I was wondering if they did in this collection.
Yes and no lol You can turn on the English subtitles while watching the English audio but the dialog doesn't match because it's a translation of the Japanese audio and the English dub is not an exact translation of the Japanese version. So the subtitles do not exactly match the English audio but convey the same general plot. :)

Are you thinking of getting the DBZ Kai blu Ray disc set? Some people are unhappy with the final chapters because it was done by Toei themselves instead of Q-tec who did the first 98 episodes. Toei apparently did a sub par job because they cropped it for 16:9 and added a weird green tint to every episode. They also didn't cut out as much filler as the first 98 episodes did so the pacing is much slower. I found a fan recut who used the audio from Kai the final chapters and put it over the footage from the dragon box set. They cut out more filler and changed around a couple scenes so the pacing is much better and the image quality, colors and aspect ratio are all unchanged so it looks great despite being in a lower resolution than the blu Ray. I'm thinking about buying all of the seasons to have the source material and then burning the fan recut onto some blu Rays to make my own set.
I'm not sure about Kai, as of now I'm happy with my current collection. I enjoy the filler in dbz :D
+Mama Micah wow thanks for the reply! But yeah, some of my favorite scenes are from filler. But Kai really is great! You don't have to say one is better than the other, they're just different. If you ever want something different then give Kai a try!

I just bought seasons 2-5 and 7-9 on amazon. They were all on sale for 25.99 Canadian so I had to get what I was missing
I do gotta say the Saiyan arc was totally the best one. I should say that you should try and hunt down the level sets. there are only two because they were cancelled but they are an amazing way to watch the series.
I bought the DBZ Movie pack on DVD where you get all 13 movies (excluding Bardock & Trunks) for $50. The movies have the same quality has the Orange Bricks. My collection includes the Dragon Ball Blue Bricks, the DBZ Orange Bricks, DBGT Complete series (which was only $25 at Walmart) and the DBZ 13 Movie Pack. All of it is on DVD because they look just as good on DVD. However, Funimation puts more effort into DBZ than Dragon Ball or GT. GT was definitely in 480p while all of Z was in 720p-1080p

Still have the orange bricks sets and the stealbook double movie sets. lucky I bought them all stealbook movies back in 2013 they were out of print and rare. lucky I bought trunks and bardock, android 13 and Bojack when they were new coming out in Wal Mart. now there over prize and Rare. you can find them on blu ray. double feature steelbooks are rare now.

unfortunately it's cropped too just like orange bricks, normally the blurays have better cropping, but there are a few places where orange bricks do it better in saiyan saga
Do the Blu ray movies have the original funimation dub in them, including the music composed by mark menza and/or the various rock bands of the time?
The older movies (the double feature and triple feature blu rays) have an option for either the Japanese or the US music tracks that originally aired with the movie. The newer movies (Battle of Gods and Resurrection F) don't have options for the music tracks, the only option is the language and subtitles. :) Hope that helps!
