- As the title said, today we take a first look at the newest collectors plane released yesterday in IL2: Sturmovik, I.A.R. 80-A. This was manufactured in Brasov, Romania during WW2. Let's see if we can figure out how to fly this, and see how it looks and behaves.

My PC Specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 4.2GHz
MSI GeForce RTX 4090 VENTUS 3X OC 24GB GDDR6X 384-bit
64GB DDR5 6000MHz CL40 Dual Channel

TrackIR with TrackClipPro
Thrustmaster WARTHOG HOTAS and Joystick, and some rudder pedals that don't work too well. :)

I saw on discord some people have issues with keybinds for the propeller pitch in this plane. Under plane engine controls, look for propellers: high pitch and low pitch. No idea if you can bind it to an axis, as i didn't try. Just bind it to some buttons and it should be fine.
You can't bind them to an axis. Similar to other axis aircraft which use buttons for prop pitch control in the cockpit. If the cockpit uses buttons then buttons need to be assigned to control the pitch
Amazing plane and great review thanks! Definitely a must have plane!
Such an awesome aircraft, I will enjoy getting to learn it. Thank you for the cockpit tour!
You are welcome. Hope you will enjoy it!
That is Maria Tănase over there in the picture, a famous romanian singer at that time.
Indeed, a cool and informative video. Very thorough. Thanks for your efforts.
Thank you, that is what i was hoping for.
The cowl flaps. . . I watched another video where the pilot was flying with them wide open the whole time, which obscures forward view (including about 1/3 of the gun sight): kind of annoying, and probably adds a lot of drag. I assume they are manually controlled, why not add to the pilot’s work load? Automatic mixture control is a nice feature, but we can’t make it too easy.
I assume the gauge on the lower left is cylinder head temperature, and you would close the cowl flaps as much as possible to improve performance.
Good video. Plane seems a bit slow and rifle-caliber machine guns would be a bit weak. Maneuverability looks very good, and it would be interesting to see how the cannons work.
(Welcome to the war, Romania!)
Voleti means flaps .the top soeed was 514 km /h at 4500m
Thanks man.
Hi. In French, "les volets" this is "the flaps"... so maybe the Romanian "voleti" stands for "flaps".
You are right, thank you!
Controlling propeller pitch is something i loathe, there is a reason why the Germans did away with that ,a fighter pilot has his hands full already and controlling that is just something else to add to his workload.
God bless the engineers at Messerschmitt for designing pretty revolutionary planes for the time.
I agree. But then i am also enjoying the complexity of these machines, from the comfortable chair i sit in. :)
Are you playing with a vr headset ?
Hey man, no, sadly i get very sick from VR, so i can only use TrackIR. :)
Great video! 👍🏻
