I read Barchester Towers in August, and I agree with you. Now I did see a tv adaptation of it years ago, and it was not very good by today’s standards BUT Alan Rickman played Mr. Slope, and he was wonderful and memorable. He was so so slimy! But yes the church polititics were pretty slow.
I did see the play The importance of Being Earnest in London in 1992 with the wonderful Maggie Smith and it was totally loaded with great actors that we saw on BBC all the time. It was an afternoon performance in a small theater and MS played to the audience and was hilarious. 😊

How incredible to see “The Importance of Being Earnest” with so many wonderful actors! I’ve had the adaptation of Barchester Towers on my radar but I didn’t realize Alan Rickman was in it! Now I want to see it even more!
