Stop, Velvet! Don't do it, Velvet! /proceeds to stand still and not actually try stopping her. Write in two deaths that finally trigger the protagonist's problems with killing. At least for Luke, it had to be nameless/faceless NPCs.
The two are different. Luke had a problem with killing from the beginning, until he accepted that he'd have to kill occasionally (can't remember the exact conversation, but Tyre asks him if he's okay with killing/being hated, and he says yes). From what I've seen, Velvet doesn't seem to have any problems with killing people/absorbing them with her demon arm thingy lol
Tear admitted she didn't like it, but she -is- an assassin, and tried to kill her brother to begin with. It's alongside the whole "evil church" theme. It's partly why Luke said Tear was a cold-hearted woman, or a cold woman, forget which/language confusion. Eventually Luke accepted he had to kill to survive, because he simply didn't want to die. He carried that guilt well throughout the game. Velvet, on the other hand. This scene is the moment she has actual problems She was having a flashback because she was thinking about Artorius and her brother, and the following scenes after are solely about Velvet's issues. She didn't want to be the same, blah blah blah, sad face. Hilariously. These deaths could've had more impact, if they weren't so.....random. That and the peanut gallery.
And yeah, Luke and Velvet are different, I only brought up Luke because he actually started pretty early with his kill-people woes. Velvet actually does become more...uh.. claw happy.
Well if you want more on Velvet she actually did have some problem with killing prior to the death of Laphi, as well as just after, considering how horrified she was when she saw that she killed her villagers by mistake in her rage towards Arthorius. After that, I'm guessing she likely had the mindset that she was already a murderer and demonic being anyway, so she would just continue killing to fulfill her desire for revenge, thinking it was justified as she was doing it for her brother's sake. Oscar being killed was a trigger because he was also a younger brother to a sister who loved him dearly, enough to immediately react the same way Velvet did when she watched Laphi die. Teresa even said similar words as she did. In the end she doesn't actually have a problem with "killing" as much as she does with "being responsible for taking away someone's loved one", the same way she had someone she cared for taken from her.
Thank you for the insight. I actually forgot about Velvet's beginning. Ironically, that's the last breakdown she had while she was human (irony, since what happened there, lol) I mean, with her time in prison, of course she's insane. She decided to be an end-all person, and then we get this grief, which looks funny in retrospect. That and the party. Guess it's weird because she has a -full- party with her and that they literally just stood there saying one liners. Still sad that Oscar and Teresa had to die. I guess I was expecting party members to actually do something, like how everyone fought Ludger for his few seconds with Julius. Especially since this is an "important" moment for Velvet. The nicest part is how that little brother hugging foreshadows what actually happens/what she accepts having to do, at the end. Poor Velvet, all the spotlight, and it's always followed by suffering.
