Zimbabwean here. Thank you Firstpost and Palki for covering this. That said, if the West still thinks that we will give up the farms and mines we took in the 2000's they're dead wrong. We know the importance of land and they can do whatever they want, we will keep selling our agricultural proceeds & minerals illegally and we'll be fine

This has nothing to do with the land reforms, that's just a propaganda used by the regime. Speaking of which, who has benefited from the land reforms besides the Zanu PF elites?. Even among them they aren't even happy about how the the so called reforms have only benefited a few individuals in Zanu PF.

Nyatsimba Mutota we have the land yes. What are we doing with it? Forget the sanctions, move around the country and see the farms we have taken from the whites I think we’re using 5% of it and the rest it’s not being used. That’s not a victory. The time we accept the facts in Zimbabwe we shall move forward as a country.

I just think land was grabbed to be given to political elites and thier cronies. Taking lamnd back was good but the poeple who took it dont know what to do with it and dont care how to manage it.
I think proper land auditing should be done and most farms should be given to capable locals not the ones holding that land right now. This should be don on productivity not partisan. Some places u see a youth with 100 hectares but its just a cute jungle no production.

American sanctions were not only targeted at the ruling party, ZANU, but at the economy of Zimbabwe. This country for 23 years could not access foreign investors from USA and Europe combined and was not allowed to borrow from western financial institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF, because of the land take over by the government from colonial farmers. Hence the decline in the economy for decades which had left the country totally impoverished . However, recent moves to take over land by local Zimbabweans has improved agricultural output but not much done in the manufacturing sector. One questions why America wants to remove some of their sanctions or is it for the sake that Zimbabwe now has both lithium and petroleum resources that will be of immense benefit to the nation or do Americans now seek to control these resources. The Chinese have been interested in this country and these resources and who cares about the Americans now.

I don't think America will be interested in these resources because you see many countries have these resources. what makes Zimbabwean fail continuously is that there is not enough infrastructure development and if foreign companies invest in the mining business for example then they would have to invest in infrastructure also which will make it more expensive. at last its the duty of the government to invest in infrastructure so that foreign companies can do business at a low cost.

As a Zimbabwean i feel the need to explain that First of all; Mugabe wasn't a dictator, he was an authoritarian and yes there is a difference. A dictatorship holds total control over the nation's politics, economics and the society. Whilst Mugabe did hold great influence over Zimbabwe, he wasn't at THAT level of power as say Russia or China.
And second; yes mismanagement was the biggest contribution to our country's decline than sanctions but they only worsened the situation for the ordinary folks.

Lol it's an old Meneses. We buckled the so called decolonization of us being locked in reserves like the Native Indians . We fought and said . America does not forgive and forget . Look at Cuba. They haven't lifted the sanction . Why ? It's 60 years for them . Our resources and they can't stand by and watch China get all the lithium and Gas deals .
Moreover, if the economy changes with the sanction still on there will be a big blow to the favourite weapon of control . . " We care about the ordinary people of Zimbabwe. Sorry we are not ordinary . We are extraordinary. . We ain't stupid like those who are made to believe fake progress whilst still the same old locked up in reserves .

Everybody when asked can tell what Africa needs to do except these African leaders. Power is not something that people give up easily and African unity will mean these leaders will have to give up some power, the reason Africa does not have a common currency, common army, common market, open borders, is because all the countries in Africa are still yoked with European ideology, each country believes themself better than the other, the Ego in Africa is so inflated that when it pops we will feel the shockwave in Alaska.

Mugabe, a freedom fighter turned dictator, exponential propaganda.
To many of us he was a hero.I think the US should learn and cope to live harmoniously with other country's with different culture, political systems and moral values .
Bribery, smuggling and money laundering is also wide, varied and deeply entrenched in the American society.
Had the American government been as clean and white as snow, there would be no high stockpiles of cocaine and heroine in their own country.
This suggests that America was also politically and socially sick, this is what makes many developing countries love Russia and china than American.
Too much interferences into other countries affairs.
    America give Zimbabwe a break

Of course this stance has failed and the opposition has a headache at its hands.

The ordinary Zimbabwean or rather African, in fact the ordinary citizen is always fighting a war on many fronts because of national and geopolitics, rarely celebrating on progress. How such few men (Both national & International) dictate the lives of millions into poverty is beyond me. But a day of reckoning is always coming sooner than they expect or think. Indeed, universal truth is never measured in mass appeal.
