I don't believe South Africans are opposed to the National Health Insurance (NHI) itself. Rather, their primary concern lies in the government's (specifically the ANC's) capacity to effectively manage and implement the program without succumbing to corruption. The track record of mismanagement and collapse of numerous state-owned enterprises does not give us confidence.

It's so nice for the minister to say money is there in this country but it is not benefiting most of us in South Africa. People are dying and yet our government is sitting on money. I'm still shocked how the majority of this country continues to vote for the ANC. No human being can endure hunger for so long, it's now become hard for us to live in our country because of this party. We literally cannot afford to keep putting bread on our children's table. When you buy food, you are taking away from paying electricity and water we are lucky if it's available for an entire week, it's as if they are doing us favours. I just....iyho😔

If state hospitals were functioning normally integration with private hospitals would be hugely welcome but there's push back. Why? This government agenda is to DESTROY and not to BUILD... Everything is broken under the ANC that's why their under 40% now... It's going to get worse because this renewal they harping about will not happen... Goodbye ANC!

The ANC has allowed this healthcare crisis due to their corruption and incompetence.
I almost died in a public hospital... they are under equiped (due to blatant stealing), understaffed ( because of all the monies disappearing), and the lack of cleanliness and efficiency.
Dont forget the tenderpreneurs charging crazy markups for hospital equipment because of government policy. Its sad that race plays a role in the messed up state of our public healthcare, being both the paitent and the reseller of original manufacturering equipment.

I was transported to a private hospital where I was told I did not have enough benefits for a simple X-ray to check if I was broken. I was sent home with a bandage and painkillers. The next day, I went to a public hospital where a young student doctor fixed me up as best as she could with stitches and everything.

Look, this NHI that the SA government wants to introduce is not a bad idea. I mean, e.g, Russia & and the UK are winging it, and all the citizens are equally catered for. The only critical challenge about SA politicians is how self-centered, self-serving & greedy they are. They won't allow the process to serve the people. They will somehow find ways of chowing all the funds. Which is why people are not supporting their initiative🤷🏽‍♀️

To me Dr Motsoaledi comes out as an outstanding public servant. A limited edition. I may not support A N C but am proud of you Dr.
Another point I wish to make is that WHO is in favour of herbs as another way of reducing the Government burden on healthcare. The Government must consciously make it known that researched herbs and their uses as well as the food and drinks we are consuming has direct link with our health. Food is medicine and medicine is food, not necessarily the advertised food in the different media.
Education on herbs from the Primary Schools to Tertiary level shall reduce sickness in our nation.

Thank you very much for this interview with Dr Motsoaledi, David. It really, really opened my eyes to NHI and to how money is spend in health care in SA. It really bothers me that we spend more money than 3 countires in BRICKS and yet life expectancy here is far low than in those countries especially India and its all about more money being allocated or spend in the private sector of health. Mr Motsoaledi is doing a good job bit unfortunately ANC doesn't. Those 800 clinics built in the first 5 years is bcos it was Mandela the president. I really enjoyed the graphs and I wanted to see the life expectancy in America since they spend 22 percent of GDP. Its going to be hard now when we have to pay for all HIV/AIDS from our budget. The main problem here for the public health service going down is bcos our department does NOT calculate how much they spend on all foreigners especially Zimbabweans. It is really foolish and unwise to not calculate the costs there and I wonder why they avoid it. That service they consume cost a lot of money, is not air.

Things like teaching and helping a healthy lifestyle, facilitates for early detection of sickness like cancer, etc, making dna test easy to predict some sickness that pass through genetic wouldn't it help minimizing it because prevention is better that cure or adapting Cubas policy because from pregnancy to birth of a child they have good policies because if government focus on that you will have more healthy generation that needs less expense medication.

But good Dr your ANC government with resounding majority brought about or allowed this happen. You can’t say it’s not government that that must account for all failures in the Health system. Who should take the blame then? Apartheid made public hospitals m. you came in, you failed to maintain the existing hospitals.

NHI is a formidable want but the reality is that with the current people in the system it is not achievable. For such a grand idea to work everybody needs to be honest, hard working, committed and honorable. This population of ours are lazy and corrupt and void of empathy.

What a thoroughly engaging episode. I have always found Minister Motsoaledi a very cerebral man. He gets floated around as a mad man by the media and the DA,but after the irrefutable proof he was armed with on this episode,I don't think any well-meaning South African is against NHI. Of course, lingering concerns about corruption will always be there ( and perhaps rightly so ). However, you cannot disagree with the principle.

    Ntate Mashabela. Ke ya kopa.
Please invite minister of Basic Education. On behalf of all unemployed teachers, including myself.
Please invite minister of Basic Education.
There's a lot of things she's doesn't touch when she presents her speeches. There's a lot of questions she doesn't touch at all.
It pains me to hear teachers asking for jobs on Wednesdays on The Royal Playground radio2k.
It pains me because from 12:00 to 15:00 no school principal or HOD is listening to Radio2k, they are busy with admin and attending classes.
    Please Ntate Mashabela.
