Very good information! and the table about temperature vs ohms is was key in mi case, because I connected a resistor for 90°C 250 ohms (simulated a Engine too hot) and the TBI reduce the gas injection so can see the pin connection need a good connection. To fix the open circuit It was necessary strength the pins between the sensor and the connector and the circuit go to close.
Just bought a beat up 89 k1500 and was getting this error code. There are coolant temp sensors on the both sides of engine that I thought were causing the problem so I changed the one that was hooked up to a lead. This turned out to be the sensor for the gauge. After watching your video I checked the location and found that the original sensor wasn't even connected and was completely shot. Replacing that today and hoping it clears. Thanks for the great vid.
Sir could you tell me what the sensor on the passenger side manifold is? What the connector looks like and where the wire runs. If you could make a short video. It would help us chevrolet dually owners out.
I just happened upon this video today. Can you please advise the book you was using in this video, I have never seen one so descriptive and informing about DTC codes. I own a 1991 C1500 and a 1994 C1500, I love these trucks. Any help on the book and where it may be purchased is greatly appreciated !

@@CraigB-rw9cusounds like you’ve replaced a lot of stuff. The ECM would be my prime suspect but you’ve replaced that too. I’d start looking at wiring integrity. Check power and ground to the ECM and all connections that could be corroded, wires rubbed, mouse chewed, etc. good luck
Great info very helpful i had an issue with 95 s10 2.2l it has a obd2 port but needs a obd1.5 reader .. Turns out you can jumper ports 5 an 6 it will give codes just like your truck
Thanks for the video. I have obd1 code 15 on my 91 S10 4.3. I don't have any power coming to the temperature control sensor plug. Is it supposed to have power to it at all times when switch is on? Thanks.
I had the same issue. Was scratching my head because I changed mine too. Was messing around with the plug and the realized that the spades were spread apart. Compared it to a new one and it was. Changed the pigtail and it solved the issue!
So if you don't have the meter did you say to unplug it and then start it and see if it registers hot or a hundred and thirty degrees I don't get it can you explain that better.
I don’t have it in front of me but I believe it was a GM manual on emissions and fuel issues. I don’t believe a coolant temp sensor would cause a no-start. It would make it run rich if it was reading low.
I have this code, but my engine is surging having a hard time running, I cleaned cap and rotor, I checked wires with soap spray at night and the plugs are new, I pulled the egr off to see if it was stuck and it's not. Why would this code be causing the motor to run rough?
The PCM uses the engine temperature to adjust fuel/air ratio. When the engine is cold, it has a rich fuel/air ratio and when it warms up, it leans out. If the PCM thinks the engine is cold when it's hot, it will add too much fuel and run rich. I'm not saying this is what is causing your issues though. Can't always go by trouble codes on these old trucks as they only show codes that affect emissions.
@@farmboysgarage7595 Well it does this when the motor is totally cold......see I bought this van with this problem, I dont know how it ran before, but I do know it had a motor change at some point because it's a gm Goodrich crate 305 and the van is 1987, the inspection is from 2 years ago and reads 207,xxx miles. I first assumed 107,xxx because of the odometer
@@tlmapp22 I got the issue resolved, it was just that, even though the plugs were brand new from when I got the van, they were shot. I tested them raw.....some had a weak spark and some didn't spark at all. So I replaced all the plugs and it ran good but still had service engine soon light, so I tested the CTS sensor, it the sensor is working properly it will start out at 5 volts then as it warms up will come down to 2 volts. My CTS sensor was bad, it never came down so that's what was killing my plugs and turning on service engine light. So now it is fixed, but it gets horrible gas mileage, so I now have to check timing, but my ultimate goal is to build a 350 with some swirl port heads with porting, a good 450/460 lift cam and flat top pistons to put me at 9.2-9.3 compression and probably just a edlebrock rpm with 600vs quick fuel carb. Alot of people don't like the fact of removing the TBI, I hate the computer.....it compensates for problems or fuel/air delivery and over rides your foot. A carburetor can be set to a standard fuel consumption putting you in alot more control of what the motor consumes.

+Shakes 73 Not really a re-upload except I included the part about how to get the code (which come to think of it I should've just made a video on). Code 14 is set with a high temp and code 15 is set with a low temp. I like the simpler systems. The OBD2 systems have too many sensors in my opinion.
@@farmboy30117 well not really because I finally figured it out it was the electronic spark ignition box next to the throttle body the big one and I e read on line yes 12 can mean that but it can mean that it's telling me it's not getting spark or something like that to the distributor to ECM to that box but ya that's what it was lol and I tell you I've put soooooo much money in that thing it's crazy I paid 2800 for 3 years ago and I've put 2000 in it not counting gas lol over the years.
