    I did something similar to a JVC miniDV camera last week - my friend wasn't bothered about the camera, just wanted the tape out so that I could digitise it. Camera was just stone dead, no beeps or anything. Couldn't find any blown fuse links on the board, and as the tape wasn't laced up, I ended up just applying 6V to the loading motor instead, and the tape was removed intact. Finnicky little things to take apart though, kinda glad I didn't have to attempt to re-assemble it!

      I hate those mini dv cameras. I turn em all away.

    When inserting a cassette, the internal mechanism is often damaged due to violent pushing.

      That's because nobody can read the label that says not to push the mechanism down.

    @12voltvids you need to turn that gear (Pulley) while its powered and in the eject mode, correct? I have a couple of these shit cameras but have things taped in that format, what is a good (decent) playback deck to use to transfer?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right. You need to spin it while it is ejecting or it will reverse and load again. I missed it on camera as I was out of frame one time and camera was off the second. You are correct about these being shit cameras. I was given another Sony that's similar. Perhaps I will do it some day.

    I guess you could say that the quality of Canon camcorders really made you want to blast them with a ... cannon.

      Their DSLR were goodas are Nikon but their video cameras, even their high end models ways took a back seat to Sony.
      Sony always made pretty good consumer cameras. Their professional camera were fantastic. In the cine camera world everyone else is acting catch up with the Venice. It's hand built in Wales. Same plant that the raspberry pi is made.

      @@12voltvids Sony makes a great camera for cinematography, that's for sure. The Venice line is excellent.
      But, the competition from companies like Arri, Red, and Blackmagic are good, too.
      And competition is essential to promote innovation, of course.
      But, at the moment, it's only those not affiliated with AFL-CIO unions (SAG-AFTRA and the WGA with support from IATSE), that are shooting movies with that equipment.

    canon mechanisms are not 'that' bad. built to a price i agree, but give them good money to play with, you get good designs.

      Canon camcorders were always shit. I made the mistake of oning one about 25 years ago. Fixed tons of them. Want to talk about pissy capacitors and guide pins that just fell out. That was canon.
