    I am sure I have seen this video before but it popped up as a suggestion and it was great to rewatch one of your earlier videos and to see how you got on with the lavvu just after you got it. Thankyou for keeping us all entertained over the years with all your adventures, stay well and stay safe.

    Les, I agree. There is nothing to beat the sound of rain on Canvas or tarp. Infact I would say my favourite camping weather is stormy weather. I lie being tucked up nice and warm and dry listening to the rain. The only thing that worries me is if a tree should get blown down, so I pick my campsite carefully.
    Take care

    It’s so nice to see a man who has sense enough to sleep until a decent time of day. Thank you. Never will I understand why 99% of the TH-camrs I watch insist on climbing out of their warm sleeping bags an hour or two before the darn sun even thinks of cracking dawn. Why?! I would love to hear the opinions of others on this. Are all these guys just trying to show what tough, hard chargers they are? I go to the woods to RELAX, not get up in the middle of the night and shiver around a fire trying to make a “cup of joe”. You now have my subscription, based on this display of intelligence alone. 👍Just purchased a lavvu and I’m anxiously awaiting fall and winter here in the southern U.S. to try it out. I’m thinking that carrying in my 3x3 DD brand tarp and when possible stringing it up above my tipi would reduce the chance of “is my Lavvu going to leak” to about zero for not much extra weight to lug in. Also, and perhaps just as importantly, having a roof at the door should make my frequent trips (born in 1957- you older mates will understand) out into the night to “water” the foliage significantly less unpleasant than emerging from the tipi directly into the rain. Another question, I have is why does anyone camp in the heat of summer? As Danny DeVito famously responds in the movie Tin Men when his wife,Barbara Hershey suggests they should go for a picnic “send me a postcard”. Lol By the way, it’s more than worth your time to purchase that movie and “Let It Ride” starring Richard Dreyfus. Most people here in the U.S. seem not to have watched those and they are the two funniest movies I have ever enjoyed. Consider these my gift from across the pond. 🇺🇸

    We need to remember what is original purpose of Pałatka. It is a raincoat. When 2 soldiers have pałatkas they can build tipi where inside they can cook a food and worm self. I think it can be upgrade putting zip-fasteners under button to minimalized windage. In summer it can be unzip for better ventilation. Regarding weight it need to be heavy. It was use by military in very unpleased situations. I think new fabrics like goretex or other it will not fit to purpose of pałatka. When we take for comparison US military they never fight on they country. US Solders can count on supplies where something will be break. Not like polish solders in second world war.

    Second time I’ve watched this vid, they never get old 👍🏼. I just had the back of my lavu sewn all the way up to the top with it buttoned to give a good solid back to the tent, and then had a 60 inch yyk zipper sewn on the front Can’t wait to try it out with the mod!

    Thanks for this. I really enjoyed it. BTW - I've had one of those 2-qt canteens for 20 years and never had a problem with it. 2 tips - first, if you hold it sideways it doesn't "glug" much when you pour, and, second, it makes a great pillow.
    Thanks again and keep posting!

    Both are excellent. For ultra stealth and winter warmth or for mountain camping you can't beat the Dutch bivi, but for lowland woodland camps with my dog the extra space of the Polish lavvu makes it more suitable.
    It's horses for courses.

    Sandy Hello again.
    Another great video and this is the third time I have watched this one. The first two were when I was trying to decide about purchasing one of the Polish Lavvu shelters. These are not common in Australia, and I have never seen one in person before.
    Well, I went ahead and purchased one, and so far I have only put it up in the backyard. I have not taken it out camping. When I initially tried to assemble the two halves, I was trying to figure out which side of the poncho should be the inside or the outside of the tent.
    I did a few google searches and found a US forum where one person was adamant that the shoulder flap on the poncho, should be worn outside on the poncho, but should be on the inside when two ponchos are assembled as a tent. This person stated two things.
    First, that if you have the shoulder flaps outside as a tent, then you will get water seeping in the armholes of the poncho in heavy rain. I am glad to see that you had your tent set up the other way and did not get any water ingress. Have you had any water ingress after this test? Thanks.
    Secondly was just a nicety. If the arm flaps are inside as a tent, then so are the two loops, which you can use to hang a lantern or any other gear you choose.
    I am very much looking forward to taking mine out camping. When I had it set up in the backyard I did notice how well it shut out light and thought this would great for anyone military (like me) who work different shifts and have to sometimes sleep through the day.
    Thanks again and best wishes.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tony,
      Yes I set it with the shoulder flaps outside and never had any problems with water ingress. I've tried it the other way too but the flaps just hang down and do nothing. Atleast if you set it up my way then you have two thicknesses of canvas where it matters.
      The downsides are it could be a big bigger and also the weight but apart from that I love it.

  • @WiltshireMan
    @WiltshireMan  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Goodluck tomorrow Donny. The campsite is a small local wood about 1.5 miles from my home, so I can go there whenever I want. There is a bit of road noise in the distance from the busy a419 about a mile away.

    Nice camp out, i love the last minute camp outs. That bladder is really nice, i will have to look into one of those. I hate carrying water in my main pack. Usually i go and get water from a source when i arrive, but always nice to have small backup. The tent looks great as well, modifications look like endless opportunity for fun with that.

    Me and my bro have a polish tepee. We used homemade Greenland wax to waterproof it.. Took ages, but after it leaked real bad on my brother it was really worth the effort. People who's say they dont need waterproofing obviously haven't used them in really bad weather!!

    Camping tomorrow so just decided not to take the lavvu 'cos it looks like rain, I agree, falling asleep with sound of rain drops on canvas is soooooo nice, just a pain drying it out once I get home. Hi sir some friends and I are having a problem with the lavvu. I can't get the buttons to do up so that I can utilise the storm flaps down BOTH joins.
    The thing just isn't made to do that, or I can't work it out.
    If you have any insights for me, I'd appreciate it.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      The buttons on the Lavvu are stiff and awkward. The strom flap is sandwitched between the two ponchos so when you have finished buttoning it up you should have 3 layers of canvas. It is tricky. On the back of the lavvu I leave the two halfs permanently joined and keep the front mostly un buttoned for access.

    I like that Lavvu tent. I use quit a bit of military gear. It may be hard to find a Lavvu in the states.

    Can't beat "morale muesli" on those cold wet mornings. I bet El's was not happy you didn't have sausages in the pan, when she woke up. Great Wiltshire weather to give your Lavvu a proper test :)
