Thank you so much for the very clear and not too chatty instructions! I just knew that with the very detailed patterns you produce you must have a lot of experience with a precise method of layout and cutting.
So glad I got to see this technique. I haven't been successful in the past, but you make it so easy. I will be trying again. I bought one of your beatiful patterns and it is wonderful. Thank you.
I recently purchased your wolves abstract quilt. I’ve never done foundation paper piecing so I hit TH-cam to try to figure it out. I watched many videos and was so confused I wasted fabric and took out stitches over and over until I found this tutorial. Your explanation was so understandable. Thank you so much for your common sense approach.
Thank you, Carla! I was also frustrated by the techniques I had learned and wanted a better way to teach it. I am thrilled it helped you with your project!
I really like how Violet Craft shows HOW TO DO step by step semi slowly so I can think through each step before the next one. I'm making an airplane and it is a smaller scale and has me making mistakes.... so I am hoping this video (which I will probably watch more than once) will help me with the small pieces on the airplane I am working on. - dlrs
Thank you for this tutorial! I always get confused when switching from placing fabrics to sewing because I flip my templates over. I love how you explained it and will be using your method going forward!!
Thank´s a lot for sharing this! Really needed this update for paperpiecing and you showed it so clear and easy to to understand. Thumbs up and going to hit the red button!
i am just starting to explore quilting and i love your atomic starburst pattern. quick question after watching this: does grainline matter with paper piecing? it looks like you are just placing the pieces where ever they fit and ignoring grainline. coming from garment sewing i just had to ask 😆
Hi! Grain does not matter unless you are trying to line up a print. One of the primary jobs of the paper is to equalize everything so you can also use different textiles together that might not work well together without it. Have so much fun!
So crisp and clear in your directions! I am coming back to FPP and this was the best video yet and I think I watched and or previewed 4 different ones today! Many Thanks! And I love your website! When I get better at this I am going to try one of your patterns- also need to narrow down the selection of patterns I want to do! I basically want to do them all!
I just wanted you to know... your method is awesome. I’m working on the elephant abstractions. This is only my second paper piecing project, (did a Ginny Beyer table topper before) but you method provided me such clarity! Such reasonable explanation. I love it. Thanks so much. I appreciate you!!💖💖
I usually pick up things pretty quick. Thankyou for the the little hummingbird pattern you give but he has been doing my head in all day. sew unpick, sew unpick . I will persevere and get this. I think ive watched this clip 15 times so far. lol
Thank you for asking! I never starch. Never ever. I understand that people do and I understand why - I personally just find it completely unnecessary. The paper in Foundation Paper Piecing is the foundation - the great equalizer - to hold all the fabric in place so that it won't stretch or move. I get perfectly flat, precise results without any starch at all.
I’m not new to paper piecing but I struggle with using indiscriminately large pieces of fabric for strangely shaped pieces. ultimately, you need enough to finish the project. I am working on the elephant and I worry constantly that I will run out of a color even though I have a bit more than what the pattern calls for.
Thank you for your explanation, this makes soo much more sense then how I would've gone about it haha. Just for your instructions, maybe next time use a section that has all patterned pieces and no white😅
I am making your Atomic Starburst Quilt. Do you have instructions on how to cut the background fabric prior to foundation piecing the STARBURST BLOCKS for these blocks?
This has helped me immensely but here's where I can't figure it out...when piece A is sewn to B, I'd be stitching over the seam line into where the C piece goes a bit correct? So then when I have to fold back between the A/B piece and the C piece do I unpick what goes into it? So confusing to me...
I just bought your wolf abstractions pattern and am watching your video again (watched it before buying the pattern and now again that I have it). I have never bought a pattern like this and expected the pattern/templates to be ready to use but it says to copy on 11x17 paper..obviously I can’t do this at home and you don’t discuss this in the video. Do you just take it to somewhere like staples? On regular paper?
I would really appreciate your help-I am trying to paper piece using your atomic starbust pattern and very discouraged. I have watched your video a million times and it makes sense until I start using the little pieces of the star! Any advice? I realy want to make this and have spent a lot of $$. I get placement A1 and A2. But when I go to A3, with small angle, etc-everything gets gets out of whack! Suggestions for this pattern??
I have a question! So when I follow this, the seen completed panel is mirrored. Is this how it’s supposed to be or should I try and mirror the pattern when I copy it? Thank you!
Hi Tim! Yes, the final is always mirrored from the templates. We’ve already mirrored the templates for you, so your final project will look just like mine. That’s why the template piecing map inside our patterns is a mirror image of the final project, so you can look at the template side with the numbers and match it to the map. I cover this more in the second video. Happy sewing!
Hello I am trying to send you and email but don't see where to send it do you or does anyone here know if there was a correction made to pattern The Atomic Starburst Quilt pattern?? Please let me know.
Hello! There is no correction for Atomic Starburst. We did do an update and changed the size a bit in 2020. More iformation can be found on the quilt's page here: www.violetcraft.com/quilts#/atomic-starbust
I am struggling to understand how you start sewing A & B together by going 1/2" into C. If you went 1/2" into C, you shouldn't be able to fold C over. It doesn't make sense?
Thank you so much for the very clear and not too chatty instructions! I just knew that with the very detailed patterns you produce you must have a lot of experience with a precise method of layout and cutting.
I love your personal modifications to the ppm. They are now mine too.
Omg! Thank you for this video! You make paper piecing look manageable!
Yay! Thank you so much for letting me know. Have fun!

This is the best paper piecing tutorial. I’ve seen. Thank you!!!

I love paper piecing & love the Mt Hood pattern. It’s exactly what I was looking for

Awesome!!! I’m making one of these for the first time and this video was very helpful. It’s for my daughter’s birthday!!!

Thank you so much! There are also a few free patterns to try if you'd like! They are located in a link at the bottom of the website.
This is EXACTLY how I FPP! I had to figure this out for myself, I sooo wish your video was around when I needed it!

I like to glue baste my pieces inside the seam allowance. It keeps them from shifting. Nice directions on ensuring coverage for angular pieces.

You’re a GENIUS!
I am making your Atomic Starburst Quilt. Do you have instructions on how to cut the background fabric prior to foundation piecing the STARBURST BLOCKS for these blocks?
Hello Elaine! The precutting instructions are in the first few lines of the pattern. Email us if you have an additional questions!

elisa dalrymple watch the TH-cam video by ISeeStarsQuilting, Paper Piecing with the Atomic Starburst Quilt Pattern. It helps so much!
What’s the point of having a rotating cutting mat if you pick up the work and manually turn it?
I bought your wolf abstraction quilt, how do I do this with the large pieces, when the pattern is only one part. Do I sew the fabric at one side?
I have a question! So when I follow this, the seen completed panel is mirrored. Is this how it’s supposed to be or should I try and mirror the pattern when I copy it?

It would be helpful if you gave dimensions for each piece
How do I order?
Hello I am trying to send you and email but don't see where to send it do you or does anyone here know if there was a correction made to pattern The Atomic Starburst Quilt pattern?? Please let me know.
Hello Linda! There’s no correction, but we did change the pattern and make it bigger. Contact us through the website for the changes!
