I don't play either - yet. But I've been giving it some thought. I'm not overly gifted with musical talent but I don't need to be great to enjoy playing.

I was at my local music store, and many of the people in it play classical instruments, and I found out that 2 of my friends working at the store are also fans of you and Sondra. You have the voices of angels. :) (And are so cool) Even people in a small town outside Buffalo NY listen to you, I figured you would want to know this, and it would make you smile. Have a great weekend Patty. :)

I'm fascinated by your videos about the Gurdy... My family has been involved in Folk in the UK since I was a kid, my sister and then my brother got into it and dragged me in too, and I have seen Gurdies pop up throughout my time and been entranced by them... they are reminiscent of pipes, in that they have a drone and the melody is then offset against that accompaniment... like drums it seems to be more of a primitive sound that we are drawn to and reaches further into the soul... thanks for the Vids, they have been giving me an insight into a very fascinating instrument. :o)

It's always interesting to learn more about how these instruments work, but this time in particular the visual aids and your word choice were quite interesting. Circle with four corners and casting arrows at the front and back of the room especially made me smile :)

I've built a lot of stringed instruments, but never a gurdy. Now I'm transforming an old acoustic guitar into a gurdy...
This video answered my question about how the "trompettes" work.
    Thanks!
    P.D.: your eyes defeated me.
    Cheers!

With a spokesperson like this, even watching paint dry could get popular.
Don't get me wrong, I like Hurdy Gurdy music, the mix of classic style music with metal especially, it's awesome.
But admit it guys, someone as infectiously enthusiastic as Patty could get you to like getting your nails pulled.

I can't take Storm Seeker seriously though. I tried watching some of their videos and just kept laughing the whole way through. They're good, and I like it, but they're so earnestly over the top and hitting so many cliches that is just too hysterical for me. As such, have just booked tickets to Germany to see them live. :) Should be great.

With enough practice would one be able to use their wrist or fingers to add a secondary beat right before or after a "main" (full arm movement to aggravate the trompette) beat? If so, could one do this in rapid succession to aggravate the trompette seemingly continuously?
Sorry if these are dumb questions, I've never played a gurdy before (though I would absolutely love to play and learn it), so I have very little clue as to how difficult they are to crank, let alone to aggravate the trompette(s).

What right-hand movement does the trumpet really imply? How is the krank handle held to allow for these trumpet strokes? This is a mystery to me? I was expecting such an explanation. Anyway, thanks for your great channel. I may make a Nerdy Gurdy some day. A real Gurdy is too expensive to me (I already have too many bass guitars :) )

/\ jealous of people who can play an instrument.
I love watching people play, watching some people and some instruments makes my hands sore just by watching (curse this getting old crap).
I've seen you turn that crank on the gurdy while playing and sometimes reverse direction or use 1/2 and 1/4 turns. Besides altering the harmonic drone (I don't know the proper name) what else does the change in rotation do? I know it spins the wheel that connects to some of those inner strings for the harmonic drone.
Absolutely love how you get into the function, building, and engineering of your instrument as well.

It is not really true that the hurdy-gurdy trumpet does not appear on any other instrument. In fact, the trumpet has been added to the hurdy-gurdy by analogy with the same movable piece that was used on the tromba marina centuries before.

coup de deux in English... Hit, strike or beat = coup . de deux of two, twice, double. So Double hit , Double strike or Double beat is fine really. Purists might say it means a (sometimes) 'surprise' double shot, strike, or stroke if applied in the manner of 'coup de grace' meaning .

    • @jetsetuk
      @jetsetuk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Coup de grace literally means Cut of grace and was meant as a killing stroke to put some one or something out of it's suffering, so not really a surprise... ;o)

Hi again, this is me 'Rick". Here's our band's latest song: th-cam.com/video/drObfWhwszk/w-d-xo.html
It's in Russian, her synth is on the same track as the vocals, but I found a 'vocal remover' plugin, and I'm going to try to use it next time; anything to help me isolate her voice. It barely works though. She allows me to copy down an mp3 of a video she puts up, and put it into FLStudio and build music over it, like this video above. I would like for you to try to do it like I do it, so I'm listing some things to get started.
    1. Get a computer that is made for video/audio production. There is a great company in London that does it, and here is a video about that from Mary Spendor: th-cam.com/video/Y0Uj3ANO8vo/w-d-xo.html
    2. Once you get the right computer, get FLStudio. Buy it once and you get lifetime upgrades for free. You get the biggest bundle with them for around !,000 USD. This can be your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).
    3. You can now subscribe to "ComposerCloud", and have their plugin loaded into FLStudio. You can find awesome drum tracks premade, thousands of them from trip hop to scoring tools, big thunderous, celtic rhythms, like you hear in my song above. Things right up your alley.
Also, you can program your own drum beats in FLStudio with great samples of single drums, kicks, snares, etc. ComposerCloud was made for producers like me, and so that people can make whole albums with them. People score for TV shows with ComposerCloud as well. You can record live instruments in FLStudio, now, better than ever before.
You can grow into these programs, might take a while to figure it out, but FLStudio has tutorials on TH-cam, so ask it anything. I still want you to record with our band. You know my email catroofrecords@outlook.com.
Let me know if you want to do it. I look forward to your music anyway, and I hope you do the steps above. The mixing, adding plugins, effects, all of that you can figure out with time, and you don't need me or anyone else to do it.
Copy/paste this comment for future reference if you like. Great song today!
