    I found that I paid more attention to the side characters in the series, regardless of how small their parts were. Joanna was especially well cast and a sort of pillar of strength and wholesomeness to contrast Marianne throughout college.

      that's interesting - I felt the side characters were much more visible in the book - I felt a bit confused in the series as to who everyone was and what was happening. Perhaps that says more about how I relate to people and visuals, that I felt they were more visible in the book.

    I’ve never been so moved by a show. It’s absolutely the best chemistry I’ve seen on camera and the first sex scene I’ve seen where it was genuinely beautiful and you could see the love between two characters.
    Daisy & Paul are rarities for sure 👏🏼

    Cannot praise this series highly enough. Binge-watched the whole thing on a wet sunday afternoon (honestly couldnt stop watching!) and have been thinking about it ever since - Paul and Daisy have done such an amazing job with these characters, dare I say, perhaps even award winning? You forgot at times that they were acting, and they both deserve recognition for their stunning work in this series.

    19:47 for the panel of Sally, Daisy, Lenny, Paul. Really hope Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones get award nominations. Paul's performance in episode 10 alone deserves it but Daisy's was so strong in multiple episodes. Would be well-deserve recognition.

    Marianne/Daisy’s delivery is outstanding - for instance, her understated It isn’t when Connell says that perhaps it’s normal that people can read someone’s mind. Paul/Connell, who jumps up as soon as he hears Marianne scream, when arguing in the house in Italy. I loved the book - but these things are nuances brought to it by the acting - and these mean that I now love the TV adaptation as much but for different reasons. I find myself in an endless loop of flicking from book to TV and back because I just don’t want to leave Marianne and Connell. And both book and TV have made me tearful for the characters, but in different scenes. It’s wonderful to listen to this and find that others feel the same way.

    I absolutely loved this series; I'd not read the book first, so I read afterwards then watched the series again, as the book just solidified how much I loved it - the book flowed so well and was an insight into the characters inner monologues! For me, in terms of the adaptation itself, it literally brought the characters to life and, especially Sally's fluid writing. The over-riding urge to re-watch the series came from the scene at the NYE party where they kiss and the cinematography seamlessly weaves it with the first kiss; absolutely pulls you right back to episode one, evokes all the feelings and reasons for why they love each other and the growth between them - and makes you go over all the communication mistakes you make in your own life trying to get there, which is why it's lingered so long (for me, anyway!). To be able to experience that in real life in a conscious way is something everyone should aspire to ❤

    The serialised drama/book is probably so popular because it's so real, so relevant and true to life.
    Sally Rooney might not like to be called the voice of a generation, but she is. There's lots of issues/themes that are dealt with in this that I've not seen dealt with in a drama before. Particularly, how damage/abuse done to a person early on in life can effect how they conduct themselves through life especially in relationships.
    The main actors might be surprised at how popular it has been, but I don't think they fully understand yet the gravitas of what they were dealing with.

    This series blew me away. The sex scenes were so intimate and I felt almost guilty watching them. It was like I was in the situation with these two and it wasn’t my place to be there. That prob makes no sense but I don’t know how to put their intimacy into words😮 sometimes I liked Peggy and other times I found her to be a nascence?!!! I was like no group sex. This is their private and personal relationship. The Connell/ Marianne relationship was a lot deeper than just sex. They truly loved each other and sorry but they could never stay away from each other for any significant amount of time. They needed each other to breathe and survive.

    As Lenny said, it is exactly that proximity - intimacy-closeness that we all feel when reading the book which has been magistraly convey and kept into the series which makes the whole experience so unique.. What Paul can not describe about his acting with Daisy is called magic.. There is no other definition.. Scarcely happens but when it happens it is exactly like this! I can't watch more than one episode at a time- it's too powerful. I usually give BBC and ITV drama a wide berth because they don't do anything for me. But because of the huge interest it has generated, I was going to give it one episode and one has turned into 11 now. I was hooked in the first few minutes and by the time episode 2 had gone, I couldn't think of anything else. Never have I seen anything like it or as good. It has love, despair, desperation, longing and melancholy in equal measure, which will bring back painful memories for a lot of us. And the acting of Daisy and Paul. Wow. I don't think I have ever seen an actress able to go through all those emotions simply by facial expression alone. It's a million miles for her from Cold Feet.

      @@christakeen1391 I had to steel my self to watch episode 12, not having read the book, and was half minded not to watch it as I feared the worst. Afterwards, though, I thought everything's ok -sort of. I can see talk of a sequel in the media, which millions would die for, but it can't possibly, surely, attain the heights (or depths?) of the original, can it?

      As much as I'd love to see Daisy and Paul play these characters again, because it's so rare to see such incredible chemistry and acting from two young talents, I dont think they'll make a season 2. The series ended in the best way, in that Marianne and Connell will always be there for eachother but are neither hindering one another or are defined by each other . They are on their own paths at that point in time but will always support eachother in the pursuit of their own dreams. They are soulmates.

    • @sjpd3352
      @sjpd3352 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The series rarely diverges from the 2 central actors, really the addition of different ethnicities wouldn't have been helpful as their purpose/struggles/subplot would have been absent on-screen. The boyfriend during the college act was black and had little development in relation to his struggles that he had, let alone in relation to race.
      We do need more representation, but unless you change the main two characters or alter the plot to a greater extent there would be little reason to.
