I was able to find an interview about where the idea came from! Can’t find it now, but it does exist. Basically the guy saw fish and thought about how people who go out into the world are very much like fish. The film basically represents different elements of people.
That makes a lot of sense. In my video I explained each of the fish and their various ways of living. I also stated that the point isn’t about fish in a sushi restaurant, but I wasn’t sure exactly what it was about. So thank you!

Normally, I would gripe about human models in cgi films. But here, they come off as monstrous and disturbing to me as it would to the fishes. So it kind of works.

I didn’t mention it because it wouldn’t change the story if they were killed a different way. However, I should have mentioned it because it changes the way the characters view this scenario, thus adding more fear into the audience.
You forgot to mention that the reason that the flat fish is referred to as the master and why he is respected by all the other fish in the tank apart from being the only fish who survived the longest at the restaurant was also because prior to Padak's arrival he was the only one in the tank who was originally from the sea as opposed to the other fish who are from fish farms
Actually, he was never from the sea. He only said that to gain further control of the other fish’s minds. And it was laid out throughout the movie: he did not know anything about the sea nor did he have the desire to go “back” into the sea; in a flashback, he says to his lover that he can’t hear the sea because he’s from a fish farm; during one of the night meetings, he accidentally slipped out that he was never from the sea; and other moments.

I wouldn't say the surface is like, a vegatarian movie. I think it's 'don't eat animals alive please'. Not sure why you didn't mention the whole 'eating fish alive' thing.

I didn’t think something common needed mentioning; besides, I thought that having them be killed one way or another wouldn’t change the story. But now I know I should have mentioned it, because even though it doesn’t change the story, it changes how these characters feel about this place and the lengths these characters will go to either find change or remain the same.
Yin Yang Fish in China and Ikizukuri in Japan are two fish dishes served with the fish still alive to patrons. Those dishes are VERY reminiscent to what is clearly seen in this film. It’s such a sad reality that is STILL going on today and needs to stop.
