    mx-5 is just a pure sports car. it's not girl's car or whatever. this is THE sports car under 30 grand. it's also extremely reliable

      It WAS the sports car under 30 until the BRZ/FRS came out, they will be it's successors. The new Miata is trash.

      Hugh Jass look at the 2016 redesign it has a whole entirely different look. the 2015 and 2016 look like two different cars and power isnt always what makes a car amazing, what makes a car amazing is how much you love and enjoy the car, and small doesnt always mean bad tons of smaller cars are nice I mean even cars like the FRS and BRZ are smaller cars compared to other sports cars and Porsche normally are all small and those are amazing

    You mentioned Bilstein Struts at the 7:50 mark and it's important to note this car does not have "struts". Front suspension is different than your BRZ with upper and lower A-arms with separate shocks. Main benefit is that it allows for full camber and caster adjustment. Rear suspension is multi-link like the BRZ.

    • @Disco_Potato
      @Disco_Potato 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ??? What? Have you actually looked at the suspension? Springs on shocks front and back.

    • @jjuhring1
      @jjuhring1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      eSZee
      Granted, the spring perch is attached to the shock body, which could be interpreted as a 'strut'... but when talking automotive front suspensions the term "strut" is usually used synonymously with MacPherson Struts... where the strut takes the place of an upper control arm. I wanted to be clear that the MX-5 and BRZ have very different front suspensions. In the last comparison test in Motor Trend (2013 MX-5 vs FRS) they list the front suspensions as MX-5: Control arms, coils springs, anti-roll bar. FRS: Struts, coil springs, anti-roll bar.
      It’s so rare any more that a car comes with a fully adjustable (camber, caster, toe) front suspension that it seemed worthwhile to point it out.

    Nice review. And to assuage your fear, the little vents in the mx-5 does just fine in the hot and cold. I've driven it in -20F and 110F weather, and once the engine warms up, the heater/AC keeps up just fine.

      @verdict4me 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ditto!I live in Ontario Canada.And it is Jan,30/19 & as cold out as the north pole almost!But when my MX 5 is allowed to warm up with the Heater blowing &the heated seats on,I'd swear I was in the tropics or something.It's blasting out hot air like no tomorrow!!

    Just never put the top up and you won't have any problems! I'm 6'1" and have no issues, but at 6'4" you'd want to likely stay top down. That's the most fun way to drive it anyway and as a second car that's the way I drive it 95% of the time so it would be perfect!

  • @tikijojo

    I own a 2015 MX-5 Club edition. Great car to drive. I would not want this car as my primary driver, as like he said, it's too impractical. I bought this as my second/weekend car and it truly fits the bill as this. Tons of Fun without having to hit 100 mph.

  • @brianpiersol9412
    @brianpiersol9412 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you do only 1 mod to this car, please change out the (pressurized) expansion tank. The NC was the only vintage to do that having it under pressure. When (not if) it fails you can overheat quick and possible trash the motor when that plastic tank cracks. I kid you not. SO worth the easy changeout from the OEM plastic to aluminum.

    Hey,subaruwrxfan, have you thought about reviewing older cars? Like and old Cadillac, Buick, old rust buckets...stuff like that? It could attract some more fans and those type of cars are easy to make fun of, adding some comedy. Or even reviewing trucks? It would be cool to see a Ford Raptor review or a F-450 or something like that.

However, for those people that are actually really thinking about buying one, i'm sure they would appreciate a more in depth review. Hey subaruwrxfan, I've been dreaming of getting an FRS... ever since I got done paying of my new civic (I wasn't really into cars at the time when I bought the civic). My next option is to get a used NC or FRS as a second car. Used higher mileage NCs go for $7-8k or so while the FRS is still $15-18k. The FRS is about twice as much, which has me leaning towards getting an NC. Am I missing much by opting for the miata over the FRS? It would be my first stick shift car, plus maybe some autocross/track days eventually (which is why I originally wanted the FRS).

    • @ShuffleToExpresss
      @ShuffleToExpresss 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      are you going to pay monthly? If you weren't going to I'd say just get an s2k and call it a day. If you are paying monthly I might just opt for the FRS, why? The NC is the least liked generation of the miata and least sporty. Sure its got the most horsepower but it's also the heaviest, The NB I drove was way more fun than the NC I drove especially in corner. the ND is the absolute best miata right now, that thing IS faster than an FRS and feels faster than an FRS. I'd say even an NA miata would be good fun, and it's cheaper. FRS handles much better than an NC.

    • @nigo1787
      @nigo1787 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the only reason people say it's not sporty is because the 06-09 model got very soft suspensions out of the factory.
      About the FRS beeing so much sportier, that's arguable at least
      As advising a S2000, even if I don't know the american market, that's about one of the worst advice one could give considereing the hype around that thing. It's expensive, heavier and only fractionally faster on the real roads
      I heartly agree with David, the NC is the MX5 to buy right now !

    Do not like the retractable hard top. It gives it a weird silhouette.

    You do understand it's a roadster, right?.....NOOOO, it's not a "family" car...I have an 06 as a "second" fun car...is it powerful, no, is it a fun, get around, adult go-cart, yep....I wouldn't want it as my only car, and I'm single, but as a fun, free-feeling, "weekend" car....perfect..... it's small, but I don't know who does the "chicken dance" like you did, in a MX-5, I'm 5-9 and it fits me perrrrrfectly....maybe it's because your long, and gangly is the reason you think it's cramped "you're RIGHT next to your passenger"....ummm, again, it's a rrrrrroadsterrrrr (what do you drive, a 1980s station wagon?...and make your passenger sit in the pop-up, third row, rear-facing seat)....My main vehicle is a 2012 Jeep liberty latitude, my passenger sits RIGHT next to me in that too, I've tried making friends sit in the cargo area, but then noticed my group of friends seemed to shrink one by one, lol.....A Miata was built for fun, the feeling of freedom, a certain type of individual.... you're obviously not one of us.... it's not a car for "stick up their butts, claustrophobic, scaredy cats...it's for fun, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants, weekend getaways.... You're young, so I'm going easy on your review, that, and the fact you have GREAT eyes....

      +NHawk2112 That may be true but the Mazda miata has a power to weight ratio that can't be beat lol. I could get a Z06 or a could have a 2500lb Z06 that will spank a Z06.

      I can speak on behalf of the soft top. I have a 2007 Grand Touring (soft top) The visibility is good with top up or down. Road noise with the top up is predictable. It's a little noisy, but it's a soft top. When it rains it's not loud at all, but you still KIND of hear it.

      Fancy that! My brother actually has an 08' HR 350z. As I drive the Zed and MX-5 (my personal car 07' Grand Touring) quite frequently, I can tell you as a driver car, they are both adequate in their own respects. Now it boils down to what you're looking for particularly if those are your two options.
      The Zed is obviously a powerful sports car in comparison. It's a little more roomy inside the cabin as well. However, it's a very heavy car. You can feel it. The HR (high-revving) in particular revs out pretty high and in the straight line is very thrilling. Once you're on turns, forget about it, you'll end up kicking out the back. It's a bit scary if you ask me. I'm sure with a proper set of coilovers and sticky tires you'll be able to correct that but the Zed isn't consider as track/canyon worthy in it's stock form in my honest opinion.
      The MX-5 on the other hand is more of a track/canyon car. It's a proper roadster. In it's stock form it's quite amazing on curvy roads.I have a blast being able to outrun the Zed and many other cars on curvy roads. Of course, on a straight road, I get destroy by anything. A V6 Camry will probably beat me off the line in a straight line, who knows. Now the MX-5 is quite light and you can feel it's lightness. It's transmission is very satisfying and it loves being in the high RPMs. You'll feel very confident behind the wheel of the MX-5. Yes, it is a bit "under powered" 166HP at first glance seems horrible. But when you factor in that it weighs 2,500LB w/ near perfect 50/50 distribution. That number makes no difference. One can always supercharger or boost it if you'd like to go down that route. I'm quite satisfied with the power to be honest.
      You'll have fun regardless in both cars. Again, it boils down to what you're looking for in particular. If you want something purely about speed, the Zed is a better option. If you want something that you can track, feel confident in no matter what situation is the MX-5 is way to go.
      As you can tell I do sound a bit biased towards the MX-5, since I choose to go with it. But I have both the Zed and MX-5 readily available to me everyday. And have spent time with each car figuring out it's strengths and weakness.
      Btw, I'm from New York. I'm not quite sure what the Lake District is. I assume it's curvy/cannon roads?

      Jonathan Singh thanks Jon I appreciate it alot just been such a hard choice between the two I've also considered blob eye sti and audi tt 1.8 225 and b6 s4 estate haha , I'm wanting something thrilling as addicted to acceleration as since was in a push chair I was at drag strips as my dad always has done but wanting something good on corners and fun, I've done alot of research on both cars engines de and hr etc, problems etc but there's only so much you can find out without actually being in one, one car I orginal wanted was a vauxhall vx220 turbo and had a chance to go in a n/a version and loved it but with fibreglass body I wasn't sure , so mayb the mx-5 more haha just have to see if I can get a chance to be in one haha
