WOW!!! This is greatness. Mike, you create excellent videos. Perfect level of detail. Currently, I work out with a personal trainer three times a week, and she tells me I'm very fit and strong. However, I'll be 72 next year on my Atlas Antarctica trip. Any specific muscles you recommend I work on to prep for getting in and out of that kayak on freezing water?

Apologies for the late response. I appreciate your feedback and am glad you found the video helpful. I'm sure you won't have a problem getting in and out of the kayak. The expedition crew will be there to help. 🇦🇶👍🏽When are you going to Antarctica?
Did they make you do a roll over to see if you could self rescue before you were allowed to kayak?
We were asked about our experience level, but no additional requirements needed for kayaking. The expedition crew was there to assist as needed during our expedition. 👍🏽🇦🇶
I'm booking the Atlas World Voyager for this Dec. They are charging $200/pp/outing for kayaking. We're you charged extra? Could you decide when you got there or did you have to select that option during your cruise booking? I read that some ships require you to purchase all the kayak excursions up front (i.e., $1,000 for 5 excursions) but if you can't do all of them because of weather or what not, you can't get a refund.
Hey! Thanks for reaching out. Exciting! December will come quickly. Yes, you should consider booking in advance as there is only a limited number of kayaks and trained staff available. We paid $350 pp that included up to three kayak activities in Antarctica. When we boarded the ship, many passengers wanted to sign up, and all those had to be placed on the wait list. Unfortunately, due to the weather, all kayaking adventures were canceled. Luckily, a perfect day emerged, and because we were initially signed up and paid, we were lucky to do one kayak adventure during our trip. Also, we were refunded all but $75 as that was the cost for one adventure. Let me know what you end up doing. Talk soon!
Thanks so much for the info and for posting this wonderful and helpful video. I think we’re going to play it by ear and see what the weather and sites have in store for us. We’re experienced kayakers (we have our own whitewater IKs) and I think we might get bored if they require us to be led around like cattle.
i am a novice kayaker can I do the sea kayaking?
In regards to Antarctica expeditions - Anybody decently physically fit can, you don't need any experience at all.
If the world is still here and the Rapture hasn't happened, my bride & I are scheduled to go. NOT CHEAP, but once in a lifetime before I am called home 🕎✡️✝️🛐
