Of course you can. I taught myself to play Villa Lobos Prelude No.1 in E. The self teaching wasn't exactly easy but the piece isn't too difficult technically at least. Playing it how the composer intended is another matter. Julian Bream's Masterclass helped quite a lot but when I was teaching myself 12 years ago. The full vid wasn't available on TH-cam. I really could've used it but the full vid is on TH-cam now. I used guitar tabs and they are mostly all, almost completely wrong in most passages, however they are still very useful because they get you playing, working and progressing etc. Annoyingly playing it properly isn't anymore difficult than playing it according to the Tabs. Then you see the piece played properly on YT or wherever and can adjust. Using Tabs isn't ideal but you can get online lessons these days and it is all experience, right or wrong. It doesn't have to be perfect. Perfection comes from variety, experience and regular practice. For me I need a teacher but you could be different. I get frustrated, get a mental block and can't progress. A teacher could really help. I eventually found I played best when I was watching TV (after about a 90 min warm up) and playing. As soon as my full attention went to what I was doing it all went downhill. The subconscious and the conscious mind doing battle I think. So what was my Villa Lobos like? A firm 1/10. After I taught myself that, I severed 2x tendons in my hand and haven't picked the guitar up since LOL. Oh well.
Oooh surprise Beatrix video. What I like the most about your vids Beatrix is that they feel so homely, no overproduced studio nonsense, just you, the guitar, and passion. It's always wonderful to see you play. Cheers,
Hello Beatrix. I can see in your expressions how this well crafted instrument responds with sweet resonance. It’s a gift only a classical guitarist can receive and appreciate.
It is most certainly a "hauntingly beautiful" piece, but only if it's played by one who feels the music, rather than just playing it. You are one of those rare people, and it shows. I've heard this piece many times, but your rendition is one of the best I've ever "felt". Bravo ! Keep up the great work. 🥰
Beautifully done. I loved the intro and outro. Nice that such a simple addition made the video more personal and accessible. It was like visiting you at home, and you said, "Hey, listen to this new piece I've learned."
As you play, I envision a kind and caring mother trying her best to comfort her teenage son after his first girlfriend broke up with him. Poor guy never saw it coming. He thought she was the one, but now she’s gone and he is heartbroken. He’ll heal, but right now it hurts more than the words he can express, and his sweet parent can’t find the words either. That’s what I feel when I hear you play this song.
Beautiful imagination! I can relate, but as a pastor, I picture comforting a church member who has fallen into some sin they never thought they would commit, and are devastated, and I comfort them with a soft reminder that God foreknew they would do that, but He loved them anyway, and He died for that sin, too! (Of course, I can only comfort them with words, as any other kind of comfort could so easily be misinterpreted, and then a scandal ensues.) I also, picture God picking me up and comforting me after I have wandered away and gotten hurt, like a shepherd would a little ewe lamb.
Such a beautiful piece of music. I would say that I have heard it before, but I cannot say where or when. But I can say that I cannot get enough of it. Beautiful music from a beautiful lady. Thank you.
As already stated in several posts here, very beautifully played! I really loved the tone of your guitar as well! Thank you for sharing such a lovely piece of music!

Replace "guiar" by "guitar". Just a typo - quite obvious, sorry

I actually just retitled the video because I so love your interpretation. That's exactly the vibe I was going for!

As a parent of a teenage boy, that is exactly what happened in our home.
im imagining a overly dramatic telenovela scene. a woman crying on the balcony with an overview of orange and pinkish houses with adobe roofs.
Beautiful imagination!
