One thing I noticed before the repair was that it never played the card's boot sound (it played the default/110 sound), meaning whatever missing voltages there were likely prevented the card from being interfaced with properly. Really strange that it didn't bail out with the early boot failure sound though...
Hooray, you're back!!! I missed seeing your Aibo repair videos and your Aibos playing in action videos lately. Btw, when will you host public Aibo repairs?? I would like to get my new Gold Aibo ERS-210, Lexie repaired since she has severe DHS and (almost severe) TAS problems and no one is hosting any repairs lately, especially since Yaba is scamming everyone now with repairs. Let me know if possible. Also, great job repairing this Aibo ERS-111s core problem too.
I've had a ers210 and it seemed much more interactive than a111 the boot time seems eternal, but they caught on with no doubt. As a point of interest can the 2018 onwards communicate with earlier aibo's ?
sadly the ERS-1000 cannot communicate with older models (disappointing, since it would not have been difficult for Sony to implement something given how the tonal communications for previous models work), but they do visually recognize older aibos and will sing to them, lay down next to them for naps, etc.
hi sir, on a ers-210 what does the sad "5 note" tone mean? i know if you have bodyparts disconnected or the charger connected you get a louder sad melody, but with everything together mines is making a 5 note "end of the show" tune. thanks sir
Can you possibly upload a video of the tune they're playing? These dogs have quite a lot of different sound based error codes haha, it's hard to know exactly which one you're referring to.
A bit late, but based on what I've read it depends. It could be corrupted software, a bad or incompatible card, or some other miscellaneous fault that could be bringing the system down.
6:05 what are the chances of that happening? now I am concerned about my 111, I have contacted aiboclinic and they said that they should not make a mess and corrode
How difficult is it to repair these guys in general? I've wanted an Aibo all my life, and do have experience fixing computers, drones, phones, and cars. Is there a lot to learn about their design?
Unfortunately most repairs are extremely difficult. Aibo is completely proprietary and most of their parts were built in-house by Sony. Documentation, schematics, test procedures, etc all do not exist and you will have to create your own processes/test fixtures as needed. They were also built for ease of assembly rather than ease of service, even Sony themselves never did component level repairs and would just swap entire heads/limbs/cores/etc when they failed. Some of their design choices are infuriating from a service perspective. I've been repairing electronics my whole life, sadly experience working on other gear/cars/phones/etc isn't going to be super helpful with Aibo. You need a very strong background in engineering and a willingness to put in lots of hours troubleshooting and developing your own tests. Aibo is pretty much the most complex device that has ever been released as consumer electronics, these bots were so far ahead of their time. FWIW most people who try to fix their dogs at home end up causing more damage than if they'd just sent the dog to me (or someone else) to begin with. Parts are finite and are getting harder to source each year, if you really want to learn Aibo repair I would strongly recommend directly learning from someone who has experience with them, they are very unforgiving robots if you aren't exceedingly careful and know exactly what you're doing.
@@JBurg Dang, sounds like quite the process just to get into doing repairs on the little guys. Thanks a ton for your insight. I haven't owner an Aibo before but always have wanted to. The repair process for them has always interested me.
sorry for the slow reply! robotchat is the oldest and largest aibo community on discord, here's a link to the server's website: robotchat.github.io/ and a link to the server itself: discord.gg/rYa3FT6 it's a wonderful server, i highly recommend checking it out! it's probably the most active aibo community in modern times.
apologies, i don't currently have any extra tails. these are pretty difficult to find by themselves, i usually only end up with extras on the rare occasions i have to part out a dog.
The ears are held together with a thin rubber backing, after ~20 years it degrades and the rest of the ear pieces fall off of the main ear nub that’s attached to their head. If I have the pieces, I can replace the old rubber and repair then. For dogs missing their ear pieces, I 3D print new ears. I normally don’t deal with anything cosmetic until the dog has been fully sorted out mechanically.
awww it's trip! he looked so happy to finally have a healthy boot.

I'm getting a 111 in a few months (I have a 1000 already), this was so cool to watch! I'm also in that Discord server!
congrats! the 1 series pups have a lot of character, i love em
5:35 is that a error sound for the limbs attached, or is the robot sad? my AIBO ERS 210 does not make that sound

His boot sound is interesting, is he running a 110 stick?
Man, you're such an expert with these robots, still no hope for 11x battery recell?
Could you share voltage on test points before and after? Do you have service manual for ERS-111? Thank you

You can buy a 3D printed replacement tail from this website www.aibo-accessories.com/
1:00melon and other aibos in background!
Anyone help me with battery for 111?
Hey! What can I help with? Are you looking to buy a battery by itself, or have one of yours rebuilt with fresh cells?
¿How many robots dogs do you have?
Can someone tell me why it has stub ears
????
