  • For Padre Nick who passed away in Yap on June 1, 2022.
    Friend and visionary, RIP.
The ordination of Fr. Nicholas Rahoy on Falalop Island in Ulithi Atoll and the dance celebration afterwards was filmed in 1977 by Eric Metzgar at the beginning of his first trip to the Outer Islands of Yap in the central Caroline Islands of Micronesia. Also included is a commentary by Fr. Rahoy, "The Culture Is Not Up Against the Church" which was filmed 13 years later at the Yap Catholic Mission in 1990, also by Eric Metzgar.

FROM ERIC METZGAR: Fr. Nick was special - a good friend and visionary. We first met in 1977 when I filmed his ordination on Falalop, Ulithi. For those who want to remember him the completed film includes not only his ordination but also his commentary "The Culture is Not Up Against the Church" which was filmed in 1990. Available on TH-cam at: th-cam.com/video/RmWXqeTnJ_I/w-d-xo.html. I last saw Padre Nick in 2019 and I will always remember the great "talk story" we had when we met at the Catholic Mission in Yap because we hadn't seen each other in a long time. Not knowing then that the Covid pandemic was about to hit, I asked him if I could come visit him the next year in Ulithi. He told me, “Come anytime, you’re always welcome.” He was that kinda guy and I shall sorely miss his spiritual guidance and big heart.
