I was at this museum about a month ago a buddy and I went there and the Shelby Museum in Irvine same day. Being an Aircraft Mechanic for 17 years and having some of my companies aircraft there was pleasant surprise. Our tour guide was a real nice guy and we talked Aircraft for a long while.
@@SidetrackAdventures I really got into some of the planes because when started working at Douglas Aircraft Co. In the 80s there were still some of the people who built them working there. Drank alot of coffee and heard lots of awesome stories from them before they retired.
I visited my parents in San Diego for Christmas and because of your video, we made a trip to the Lyon Air Museum. You were right, it is a hidden gem! I told many of the curators about you and this episode of Sidetrack Adventures. They were all excited and looked forward to watching it. It's amazing that all the aircraft and vehicles are in pristine and working condition. My parents, wife, daughter, and I really enjoyed our visit. We then headed over to Ballast Point Brewery at Seal Beach for a wonderful lunch and delicious brews. Thanks again for your terrific and inspiring videos, San Diego Steve! :)
@@SidetrackAdventures , since they fly the planes every once in a while, it was really cool took to see some of them dripping oil into pans. Just shows how authentic the planes are. Thanks again for encouraging us to visit, Steve!
What an interesting find...if you haven't already gone Chino airport has a couple of pretty large museums with many WWII aircraft. Thanks for the post.
First of all, excellent video quality. Viewing this on a 77" LG OLED and the quality is stunning. Great commentary. I am a huge WW2 enthusiast and seeing that B-17 was awesome. One minor complaint is the nose art didn't look era to me. That style of font wasn't used back then and Elmer Fudd was way off. I wish the artist they hired would have done more research. But, that's a minor complaint. Excellent job. Again, video quality is super amazing.
Thank you so much for making this great informative video!! I am also a WWII history buff and will definitely make a trip to this fascinating museum!! What a GEM!!
Excellent presentation. I have always been an aviation buff, I've been to several aviation museums and have enjoyed everyone of them. What I really like about this video is how knowledgeable this gentleman is. JOB WELL DONE
I’ve lived in Orange County for over 40 years, and didn’t know about this museum. I really need to go. I also live in a Wm. Lyon house too. Thanks for the video.😊
My Grandfather actually saw another of Adolf Hitler's cars { that one a Mercedes-Benz 770 } when he visited a touring exhibit in his youth. Also, the bit about Hitler's car needing support from tires made in Israel, well: that's how bad you lost, Mr. Hitler! Great video by the way!
By the way: Tires made in Israel. Good Idea. The founding of the State Isreal started at the 1948-05-14. Three years after the 2. World War II. The first Mercedes W31 was build 1934. Funny....
Awesome video. I believe I saw this car at the former Imperial Hotel & Casino in Vegas about 20 years ago. Thanks for sharing it. Greetings from Jerome & family in Florida.
My 2 hidden gem museums: Barber Motorsport park in Alabama. Visit the 5 story glass museum of mainly motorcycles but everything racing. The Mel Fisher museum in Key West. You get lost in time with great info and actual gold from the ship. Great video. Now I want to go here.
I used to show a lot of elderly gentlemen how to use the self serve copiers at the copy shop I worked at. Many of them were WW2 Veterans. One was on the Dolittle raid, his name escapes me right now. I didn't know about the Dolittle Raid until I had time to read his book. All those WW2 Veterans are the sweetest people, didn't have a complaint about one. The X generation is another greatest generation.
Hitler had a lot of cars. The six-wheeled Mercedes-Benz G4 is truly iconic, and only 4 survive in running order. Another of his cars, a Mercedes-Benz Grosser 770K, (also armoured) is in the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
I'd love to see this museum and it's exhibits. Have you stopped at Whiskey Pete's in Primm to see Bonnie and Clyde's car they were killed in? Also if you ever get near Dayton OH, be sure and visit the Wright Patterson air museum.
@@SidetrackAdventures I had no idea it was there when we stopped at Whisky Pete's in 2013 for the night on the way down to San Diego. I lived in Clairemont when I was growing up. The Helms truck would come by 2 times a week and the smells were wonderful. The breads, cookies, donuts and pastries made all the kids go running for Mom's purse! After all... that's where the money was! But Helms trucks went away when an Alpha Beta went in on Mt Acadia Blvd in about 1965. Bummer!
@@Eli-wx2ln Alpha Beta was a supermarket chain prevalent in the 20th century. I believe that, after several rebrandings, you would know them nowadays to be Ralph's.

Beautifully maintained aircraft. That car originally had tires with a very aggressive knobby pattern. Somewhat similar to Firestone truck tires of the seventy’s. Not sure the original manufacture probably German sourced.
You didn’t point out any of the fighter aircraft if there are any there. My absolute favorite is the P 51D mustang, followed by the F4-U corsair, the P 38 lightning, the P 47 thunderbolt and, the Davelin mosquitoes and, of course the Spitfire and the hurricane.
I hate to tell you this but the car actually did not belong to Hitler !
