I'm a feral cat trapper in the central deserts of Australia. My previous experience is in dingo (canine) trapping so cats have been a big learning curve. I work for a conservation organisation and have been racking my brain over how to bring the cats to me and leave the dingoes on the road. You've opened up a new door form me here. I'm only using 1.5 victors and will play with the set distance but you've answered nearly all the questions I have. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge as my diary wasn't giving me any answers.
I caught my first bobcat today, so happy. I wasn't expecting it in the particular set either, it was a real shock. He's nice too, lots of white belly with a bunch of spots. Had to tell someone.
I really appreciate the explanation of the purpose behind each part of the set. Much easier to apply when you understand the intent of every action versus trying to mimic them. Thanks Clint!
Hi Clint, Thank you so much for sharing. I trapped years ago and loved it but needed a better source of income. Now that I am in semi-retirement I am getting into it again. Much appreciated.-Paul
Thanks a lot I didn't have to come sleep on your porch to learn that LOL Keep em coming all of us serious trappers do want to learn more that's half of the reason we get up and leave to check traps before the sun is up
@wolfernation one question regarding this technique.... by the way I absolutely love the concept and can see how it would work like a charm! Question is this. I understood the sides of this set - blocking the sight line of the cat until he is in line with the attractant. What is behind it? Is it the same type of stuff that the sides are made of? Also, how much room behind feathers / tensil etc do you leave before the backing? Any advice here would be appreciated!!!
Does the Cat Collector DVD have a section dedicated to cage trapping?? I don't like snaps/legs holds due to injuries to non target animals. I'm looking into doing craft projects with furs to supplement my disability income. Thanks
Missed a cat today. He stepped on the jaws of my trap but didnt spring it. It was a small trap with small pan. Bigger traps bigger pan I wouldve had him. Clint is right on when he suggests those!!
So are the cats supposed to go between the sticks or step over? The way you had your trap sitting at the cubby they would be going over instead of between.
Clint is that your trap of choice for cats? I'm a coyote trapper. Now live where I can catch and keep a cat a year. Would you suggest a long spring like that number 4 or is my mb 650 fine?
Can you clarify where the 2nd trap goes? I heard 95% go to the right and the 2nd trap goes right in line of the first trap. But are there 2 traps between the flag and the scent? Or is the 2nd trap right in line off to the right of the 1st trap almost perpendicular to the line between the flag and scent?
First trap 18 inch back to the right. Right behind the 18 inch trap, the second one is almost touching the 18 inch trap also to the right in line back to back with it.
I know you're a busy man if you answer this question on TH-cam I would be very happy where is your cat Collector video ad the one with Hells Bells and stuff in it I need to see that again that was a good video
Just like watchers of the night, i wish i could see somebody that owns a bobcat as a pet with a go pro strapped to it to watch from their pov how they approach and work a set.
Thanks for the lesson it was great! But what do you use for the lure....you mentioned that most people don't take the time to learn what cats like...Thanks
So I've been using a flag (usually something shiny) to get the cat near my set. Then I use a second flag (usually some part of an animal like feathers or fur) right above my set. Am I doing it wrong? I wish I was at that q&a.
Wrong? No, just different. I use big flag to line up cat on my set, directly in front or set opening. Then I use something that stand out, which could be a flag in the back of set. This second flag draws cat over my trap. A flag over set might get cat to the flag, but not over trap.
@@wolfernation Oh okay. See my dad taught me to trap but he's super old-school and not very technical. Last year was the first year I tried by myself. I caught six cats, but I also missed at least that many. I just want to maximize my potential. That's very helpful information. Thank you! I will put this info to use on Thursday when I go check my line and set up more traps.
I'm limited to public lands. Although we are blessed with 100's of thousands of acres of it here; (I know to follow laws/regs of my state of course) BUT what general advice would you have for those of us who use it to trap considering other people could/will be in there. A video on it maybe?
ok this is outdoor guy talk told my brother he left extra buffalo sauce on his pants last year , this year he was over the top he barbequed his pants lol . some of us are different im country but oo doggy I got to spend some time next to the fire if im going without a shower for a duration , the fun ends and we return to town as new born as can be lol even my dog I make him get smoked out by the fire because he becomes different from day and night when were outdoors , in town I bath him when hes hot or just when its time lol .
I see videos of guys catching bobcats on plain old flat sets….no flagging at all….no cubby set or anything. Just a plain old flat set, nothing else. How are they doing that then??
Since cats don’t use there nose much is using gloves and all that as big of a deal? And will bright green and red flags make the cats less likely to check it out?
I do very well on my own I thank every one for there advise. Use comment Spence if u missed Tre cat u can bet hell be there 2morrow learn frm tracks Texas cats don't bring 6oo bills
Thanks Clint for this informative video. My first year trapping bobcats in Idaho & I caught 7 in the first two weeks with this setup.

Jacob Ashley it’s okay, you made yourself look like a pussy with your first comment, so nobody cares what you think

The best information on cats I have seen.
How can you not like this video?
Going to give this a shot with a month left for cats in my neck of the Rez... great video Clint!
Great video. Clint speaks from experience and it shows.

Great video learned more today watching this video than I learned on my own in 3 years internet and youtube are awesome!
Ordered some Cat Collecter this week and am going to give these sets a go in about a month!
I live in Lincoln,NM. We are a trappers paradise
New subscriber. Great info! Thanks for sharing!

My cousin was the president of the Mississippi trappers association his name is Steve albrition
Great tips. Do you ever use walk through sets or just dirt holes for cats?
Apparently Clint doesn’t like to answer questions.
What are good flags? I have turkey feathers, that good?

Thank you for the video. Very educational. My question is, what is the pan tension you use.
Two weasel trappers didn't like this video.
Haha, yeah!
Great i won't get any sleep tonight I'll be thinking of how to setup cats this week :)
Ive often thought about using house cat scat.
Thanks for the lesson it was great! But what do you use for the lure....you mentioned that most people don't take the time to learn what cats like...Thanks
Cat COLLECTOR lure
@@wolfernation well played
Will dunlap lure work too? I know you friends with him

After you catch one. Would you reset the trap in the same spot? Or move it on?
Reset same place
Thanks for the great advice ,& démonstrations!!
Curious what size long spring that trap is? And do you use em for coyote too?
#4 sleepy creek and yes
@@wolfernation is there a way to replace the pan or do you have to weld?
Can you use the same setup with snares
Sweet gum ball work great for making a critter step around - Great video - off season matter cage use
I will definitely have to try this
I would extend it to 4 feet and have snare at the opening.

What’s was your first traps
18 inch back
Excellent video
awesome as always
Do you pick up coyotes as well on these cat sets?
Very few, please note, cat sets for cats and coyote sets for coyote. There is NO set that catches most coyote and cat.
