Dev Anand signed Tumsa Nahi Dekha but he insisted Vijay Anand direct it. Things did not work out and Shammi Kapoor who was on verge of quitting films following dozen flops got it. It re-launched Shammi Kapoor as super hit dancing rebel star who then gave dozen super hits. Dev Anand later signed same producer director Nazir Hussain's Teesri Manzil. Egos clashed one night after drinking in a private party and next day he left the film. Shammi Kapoor whose career was sliding again was signed. He came back again in hit history repeating. Geeta Bali died during the making.
Shatrughan Sinha was front runner to play Jai in Sholay. He was established, distributers wanted him. He refused wanting to focus on solo hero roles not wanting to be second lead again Amitabh requested Dharam to help him get the film rest is history. Govinda refused Gadar, Avatar (Hollywood) and Taal. Arbaaz Khan refused Baazigar. Armaan Kohli refused Deewana. Navin Nischol walked out of Deewar not wanting to play second lead to Amitabh after he replaced Rajesh Khanna. Shashi got that role. Ronit Roy lost Khiladi to Akshay bargaining for more money. Sridevi refused Dil Toh Paagal Hai and Darr. Dharmendra had started Janzeer with script rights but released it due to pressure of a cousin whose film Prakash Mehra refused to direct. Dharam left the film fully in emotional pressure. Dharam refused Amar Akbar Anthony due to date issues and fell out with Manmohan Desai who found Amitabh after which he never signed anyone else as his main hero.
Raaj Kumar did not refuse Janzeer but he was shooting in Chennai wanted Mehra to shoot there, but Mehra needed to shoot in Mumbai to support look and feel of it and control budget. That's when Pran suggested Amitabh seeing Bombay To Goa rest is history. Amitabh was to do Vinod role in Qurbani but clash of dates for 6 months and asking for Mumbai distribution created issues.

Shashi replaced Amjad with Amrish in Ajooba on Amitabh pressure who had distanced self from Amjad after the fatal surgery in Coolie. Amjad was very upset at Shashi he had done Utsav free for Shashi. Salman was originally in Friends which was dropped and made as Kaise Kahoo with Chandrachud and Saif. Mithun Ranjeeta were signed to play one of support couple in Satte Pe Satta. Mithun opted out on finding success with Disco Dancer. He had already played 2 scenes character role to Amitabh in Do Anjaane. Ranjeeta was then adjusted in smaller but critical second heroine to Amitabh. SRK lost 3 Idiots wanting to also produce it. He had refused Munnabhai before. Sharman Joshi lost out on Golmaal franchise demanding more money in sequel. Sunny refused Jaanwar it ressurected Akshay career. Chunkey Panday refused Tridev due to dates issues Jackie came in. Bobby Deol approached Imtiaz Ali to make Jab We Met with him. He suggested Kareena. Kareena soon had Bobby replaced with Shahid. Deepak Tijori had originally approached Abbas Mastan to direct Baazigar copied from Hollywood. Pahlaj Nihalani was ready to produce. Pooja Bhatt was ready to help bestie Deepak as heroine. But Abbas Mastan later took film to Venus signing SRK after Akshay & Salman refused it! Ajay Devgan fellout with Rakesh left Karan Arjun. Salman walked in. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar was originally 70% shot with Nagma and Milind Soman playing playing Devika & Shekhar. Nagma mother did not like Gold Digger dialogue aimed at her. Milind was upset at not getting breakfast one morning. They both left film leaving chaos. Deepak Tijori rejected earlier in audition was called in on Aamir recommendation. Pooja Bedi replaced Naghma. Farha Khan choreographer director was then assistant director. Akshay Kumar also auditioned for Shekhar Malhotra role but director Mansoor rejected him too. Sunil Dutt rejected Gabbar role Sholay. Jeetendra refused Mahaan in date issues recommended Amitabh. Jeetendra refused Shahenshah after AB first walked out of it.
