Gujarat: BJP Leader’s Son Hijacks Voting Centre, Streams It Live | ISH News

During the third phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections on 7th May 2024, a shocking incident unfolded in Gujarat, casting a shadow over the democratic process. Vijay Bhabhor, son of sitting BJP MP Jasvantsinh Bhabhor, allegedly hijacked polling station number 220 in Dahod's Parthampur village, live-streaming the incident on Instagram.
In a video that went viral on social media, Vijay purportedly entered the polling booth, cast votes on behalf of others, and danced with the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), while praising the BJP. The video sparked outrage, with Congress leader Prabha Taviyad filing a complaint and demanding re-polling in the booth.
The BJP, amidst accusations, did not oppose the re-polling demand, and Vijay, along with his friend, was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Representation of the People Act. The Election Commission of India swiftly announced re-polling on 11th May 2024, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
The re-polling witnessed a turnout of 69.93%, restoring faith in the democratic exercise. Similar incidents of electoral malpractice led to re-polling in Manipur during the first phase of elections, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the electoral process against fraud and misconduct.
