If you camp in the Spring and Fall you learn to appreciate an oven and a stove top coffee percolator. There is nothing better than warming up the trailer while you are making coffee and blueberry muffins or dinner when boondocking👍It’s also quieter than and saves the batteries from some of the load of the furnace fan!

I bought an 2022 Ibex 19MBH. I tow it with a 21 Tacoma. Yes, you can feel it back there. Dry weight is 4100 and some change. Tows and stops fine with the integrated electric brakes. tows well at 70 MPH; however, you do know it is back there. When i use my GMC Sierra, I don't notice it. Load dispersing hitch and sway control are a must when towing with a 1/4 ton truck. tow capacity is 6400. Im well below 80% even when fully loaded with water, LP and groceries. I'm letting the 12 volt DC residential fridge run all night to see if it the battery will still have juice at daylight. The outdoor griddle is an awesome feature. My Ibex has dual axels, and dry weight is at 4100. 30 gallon tanks. Fresh, grey and black.

we had the NoBo 19.5 version of this Ibex as our first RV. Some comments: we took the camper for a 2 week long camping trip each summer for three summers to various national parks. There is a surprising amount of storage space in this trailer so you can go on extended trips. Yes, the tanks are small but we brought along a portable dump tank to empty the gray water tank. The convection microwave works really well for things like fries or even desserts (my wife makes a great carrot cake in the RV convection microwave). This trailer is very easily towed with a larger SUV (like a Ford Expedition). It’s a great first timers RV.

I like the trailer, but I don’t like the stovetop. If they used a 2 burner streamline stovetop instead, then there would be more counter. I also agree with you that the door needs a window to look out! I would add more solar panels and 2 propane tanks(30 lbs). I think it’s a great little trailer for a retired couple and a dog!

Not bad for someone like me with a 6500lb max towing capacity. Most 2-axle offerings will put me in the 90%+ capacity range. Very much prefer convection microwaves, no matter where they are mounted. I like the finishing on the shower and TV setup. Wish it had a window in the door and an outdoor fridge.

  • @MikeStJohn-du5ue
    @MikeStJohn-du5ue 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I like the layout and I am ok with the microwave as is. A miss is the solar IF it is not expandable on the roof. Also a miss, as you noted is the lack of a strut to hold the bed up while accessing the underbed storage. That is a major miss on their part. I question the controls being in the bathroom, looks like you could put them on the exterior wall next to the bathroom. Otherwise I have positive feelings for this, it just needs a few adjustments. The true queen is an excellent feature. But, for us CPAP users keeping the frig and the CPAP and some air running is an issue. Last thing that needs to be addressed, there is room to expand the awning just an other 18" or so to the read.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The controls in the bathroom kinda make sense but also kinda don't. I prefer to have all that stuff by the main controls by the door
BUT... some of those switches backlight and I can see some folks sensitive to light having issues with it at night. So I kinda understand why anything with lights they buried into the bathroom

Hi Josh. I enjoy your videos. I bought the 2021 19QBS last summer. I had 3 main requirements in mind when shopping for a trailer. Light enough to comfortably tow with my Audi Q7 diesel (6600lbs), walk-around true queen bed, and no dinette (I’m 6’3” too). Dinettes are a waste of space IMO.
We are a newly retired couple, relatively new to rving. We rented a class C a couple of times which informed our above mentioned requirements. We’ve taken quite a few short mid week little trips as well as a 3 week trip last fall through the southwest. This little trailer has been great. It is remarkably roomy, not like home, but we’re camping without sleeping on the ground. I don’t know why they switched from the 2-way fridge this year. The one we have cools works great, and doesn’t drain the battery when no hookup. I agree with you regarding the one bed strut. Stupid. The mattress isn’t terrible but I added a 3” memory foam and now it’s really nice. The original plumbing in the kitchen sink was terrible. The hot blew out after a very short time. My dealer replaced it with real PEX tubing and a new faucet. I think it may have been a case where they tried to get away with sub-standard parts during Covid shortages, because the bathroom plumbing is completely standard.

My husband and I bought this trailer last year. We had hoped to tow it with our Honda Pilot (5500 tow capacity) but wound up buying a vehicle that has a higher capacity as we talked to someone who said their vehicle really dogged in the mountains with a similar set up that we had. We haven’t been able to use it much but have a trip planned next month from CA to TN and back. We like the full queen bed (my husband is 6’2”) and that it’s an island bed as I don’t have to crawl out over him to use the bathroom!
This is our first travel trailer other than a tent trailer, and we LOVE the bathroom! No problem for my husband to stand up in the shower. We haven’t tried watching the tv from the toilet yet haha!
I miss the dinette we had in the tt but to each their own. I don’t like the couch because at 5’3” my feet don’t go flat on the floor, and I would rather eat facing each other. We also don’t like the single strut and we bought a 2” memory foam topper that makes it quite comfortable. I don’t think you mentioned the generous refrigerator - plenty of space and separate roomy freezer. We like the kitchen set-up ok but it sure doesn’t have any counter space. You can work your way around that though. All in all a great travel trailer.

Josh I purchased this same Ibex camper from this same dealer last August and I Love it! I find that the most important thing when towing this camper is having a longer wheel base as apposed to working about about whether your tow vehicle has a 5000# tow or 6000lb tow but making sure you can handle the tongue weight of the camper and cargo. Hi Josh-
I enjoy your reviews of RVs of all sizes, big and small. This Ibex is just a tad longer than our GeoPro 19TH, and the under-counter microwave location is the same as our GeoPro. At 59, I'm fortunate to still have enough "flexibility" to get low to see the oven controls, but I do have to be careful of steam in the face if I open the door while crouched over it.
    Keep up the good work!

OK.... Its a nice size little couples camper, IMO... But she would make for a great little hunting cabin as well... Really wish they would put in a stove/oven and not just a microwave as an option, and maybe a 3 way fridge for a bit of better off grid capability... If they could figure out a way to add just one drawer in this it would be a nice plus, IDK, maybe in the pantry closet would work for me if nowhere else. Not much in the way of countertop space, but she is about as short as she can be and still full featured, so that may just be what it has to be....

We use soft side storage bags that have flat bottoms .. connected to each other via alligator clips ... about 5 of them fit under the overhang of the couch. Likewise .. finding boxes or soft side bags that fit in the little closets on each side of the bed make those things way more useable. Put some shelves in the tall cabinet below the TV and you start to realize you can cram a bunch of stuff in this trailer ...

Yeah the ability to cover expanded offerings has been REALLY nice. I tried to find a QTH but everywhere I have visited has been sold out.
They still have no options at all from what I see. One of the only differences you might see on them is the western-built units still use a 6cu ft gas/elec fridge but again not optional. Fridge-choice is based on region.

I like this a cool RV. Prefer the convection microwave vs propane oven.
Love that many manufacturers in addition to at least a basic solar package are also including the griddle and exterior "countertop/table"
What's is that RV with kind of exoskeleton in the background?
Yes, continue with "offroad " and overlanding RVs, please. Specially if they are BH. Any bunkhouse with exterior kitchen melts my heart.
Also small 1/2 ton towable.toy haulers with patio options and lift bed.
    Truck campers too.
And if you find a Lance Enduro, even if still a concept, a super through/detailed review. Please, please, please.....
Iowa? Did you visited the Iowa 80 big truck stop? That is in my bucket list.
Do you allow yourself 1/2 day or a couples of days if you travel during the weekend to do some tourism around the Bish dealerships that you visit?

Nice little trailer, but it suffers from the same main shortcoming of the NOBOs...tanks are too small, especially the freshwater tank. The Showermiser is a plus and I like the slightly different configuration of the bathroom, but the solar is really inadequate compared to other brands at this point in the evolution of solar setups and I'd like to see a full oven and 3-burner stove. I do like that they didn't put in a tiny TV. All in all, I'm 'meh' about the Ibex compared to this same floorplan offered by other RV brands.

@@codyschade423 You're right, Embers and Black Series are much more expenses, but almost every major RV line offers a solar option now, and I don't know of any mfgs that still offer a 10 amp solar controller (and haven't for at least a couple of years). Pretty much any mfg offering a basic solar package these days includes a 30 amp solar controller with at least one 150-200 watt solar panel...and typically the option of doubling up with a second identical panel. The invertor is something that is not always offered from the factory, but is becoming more common in "basic" solar packages. As for price point, in addition to Rockwood (GeoPro and MiniLite lines) and Flagstaff (E-Pro and MicroLite lines) that Josh mentioned, check out the Jayco Jay Feather Micro line, the Coachman Catalina Expedition line, the No Boundaries line and maybe even the Apex Nano line.

This Ibex looks like the manufacture cut corners, added a "bling" feature and hoped that potential experienced buyers wouldn't notice the short commings. Don't know how long the Ibex 19 QBS ahs been on the market, but it feels like a "first draft" RV in need of an update and refresh. Between this and the Rockwood 2109S / Flagstaff 21FBRS, the Rockwood/Flagstaff seems to be a better value for the money. I know not everone will agree, but that's OK. Are they playing games with the brakes/bearings on these trailers? I have a Surveyor Legend single axle with the six lug wheels like this one. After taking apart the brake for a brake issue, I discovered the brakes and bearings were all sized for 3500lbs and not the 4400lbs max the trailer could handle. I know they like to offset some of the trailer weight to the tow vehicle, but I was over 3500lbs on the axle just below the 4400lbs max carrying capacity. And 900lbs tongue weight is a bit much, even if the offset had worked. In the end, I replaced the axle and brakes to 6000lbs so I was overrated on both the brakes and bearings. I'm not sure the math that manufacturer's use. No matter who I talked to, we couldn't make that math make sense when a single axle trailer is rated 4400lbs max (or more) on 3500lb brakes and bearings.

Also, in really small showers (like most RVs) using a curtain allows you to feel less like you're in a phone booth, albeit the curtain may feel "chintizier" it's more functional, and lighter.

Nothing screams "cutting corners to save money" more than a single piston not strong enough to hold the lid up on the under bed storage. It immediately made me wonder "where else did they cut corners?" Oh, I see...10 amp charge controller, no vent hood, and hanging the inverter from the ceiling of the storage (let's make bets how long it takes for those screws to jiggle loose and drop it on the floor...). How much does an extra 18" of wiring cost? LOL! But I did like how open and roomy it looks, the 190 watt solar panel, the adequate storage, and that the charge controller is in the bathroom, not the exterior storage space. (good job, Ibex!)...which makes me wonder why the inverter isn't in one of those bathroom cabinets too...which I would prefer. I watch a lot of van life and RV nomad channels and I've noticed a lot lately that some of these young people (20's and 30's) who have been sleeping on top of batteries and inverters for several years, are getting diagnosed with breast cancer and skin cancer, despite their healthy lifestyles. Not a good sign and something that should really be considered now that full-timing with lots of batteries and solar has become so popular. It's only a matter of time before someone decides the manufacturer is liable since they designed it that way (under the bed). Just sayin'... Oh, one more thing...the pre-installed rails for a luggage rack seems kind of silly for a rig with such a low CCC. THAT'S a corner that could be cut on this one, IMO. P.S. Tribbles! Yay! LOL

We purchased this trailer in Oct'20.. single piston sucks .. never held up the bed - not once, but adding 2nd isn't the biggest issue. Hanging the inverter in the inverted position :) is actually better than what we have .. it is on the floor of the pass thru and every time we push something thru it hits the remote button that causes the inverter to be on and you have to go back into the passthru to turn it off. Some have moved it inside under the bed.. but reading your comments I can see that is NOT ideal. I don't care about the rhino rails on top .. I can't imagine ever climbing up there to put a kayak or whatever.. then again I'm 58 so .. my climbing up stuff for no good reason days are over.

Floating table is quite heavy and doesn't collapse all the way.. so positive it is stable, negative - can't hide it behind the couch. Has a strap down on top of the couch. We took it out and replaced with a very lightweight folding table that is height adjustable and fits behind the couch just fine. The table from the RV went into the garage about 6 months ago and I haven't seen it since.

First thing I would do to any trailer with Westlake Mud Tires on it would be to swap them out. I can't seem to find the tire size for this trailer, it's not in any sales literature. Since it's not a true off road camper, it will handle and stop better with a standard highway tire, unless you take it into the mud. If there were an LT rated tire in the same size from a mainline manufacturer, I'd switch them out before my first trip. I sold tires BEFORE Westlake made them (at least under the Westlake brand). When they first came to the country, they were crappy tires, and they will never be comparable to name brands that have been around for a century. And I just can't use a microwave that's at shoe top height.

It's a shame really, I love geopro, they've been making consistently solid campers, but having that walk around and full queen option vs. geopro's smaller east/west can be a deal breaker. They have a few similar floor plans, it would be nice to see an Ibex that puts the microwave above the stove/fridge or a bunkhouse geopro with a walk-around queen bed. Having that few extra feet of length gives a better bathroom and master bed on the ibex. Both are at or under 25ft too which is nice for state/national park camping.

It's a great couple's camper, but I'd love to shoehorn a bunkhouse with walk around in a Geopro (true walk around, not murphy bed). Both have features I love. If Geopro had that bunkhouse with a walk around, it'd be a grand slam. Even if they had to extend the trailer a couple feet, would still be nice and compact. Unfortunately, that full xl bed doesn't play nice with 6'4", and can't remove the headboard because external hookups run through it.

@@JoshtheRVNerd I love it when you consistently say no hidden dealer fees and you try to save people money. When looking for small solar packages, you also have to do your homework. PWM vs MPPT or Poly vs Mono is relevant, but 100-200 watt monocrystalline panels with a PWM or MPPT controller for the average person will usually work for an extended weekend and can save the average person several hundreds of dollars. I love the Solar on the Side that I have, but if I had ordered a 100 watt panel and controller from them it would have cost me $400-$600.
