    caring for plants is like caring for an animal. its still a living thing that feels in its own way, not saying it has emotion, but if u cut off a stem or something it does get effected. i respect botanists and plant lovers!

    Here's a thought...you just confiscated the plant thereby reducing supply. But the demand is still the same. So the guy with the machete goes and cuts another plant to satisfy demand. Therefore, you are part of the problem.

    You see only what you understand. What I see is a man who knows his passion and lives a life with meaning.

    Nothing but respect for this guy. I'd much rather work for a decent salary doing something I love to do, than making a huge salary doing something I'd hate myself for doing.

  • @djdedan

    welp demand reduces because those that sent the plant that was subsequently confiscated lose money... the idea being, try to smuggle something else that wont be confiscated... the real question is how thorough are the gate keepers...

    Ppl are so destructive and careless. I am glad they aren't simply destroying the confiscated plants.

    Plant smuggling is a real problem. Some plants are not very common. Plants can be endangered just like animals can. Therefore, it is a good thing that they would have such a show.

    Because someone cares about something and fully believes in the job that they are doing? The fact he has a passion that he actually follows would indicate quite the opposite to me.

    I still think its best to return the plants back to its natural habitat where its vital for the ecosystem.

    • @yurigumatay3152
      @yurigumatay3152 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dandan dan sure, but that most likely will have a negative effect on the ecosystem, plant the wrong exact species and you can kill others.

  • @Joeykm1972
    @Joeykm1972 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Creating less supply (aka destroying supply) = artificially created demand. Creating difficulties for obtaining the supply + More expense to pay for penalties on obtaining supply = increased price (It doesn't necessarily mean higher profits.)

  • @300daysandnights
    @300daysandnights 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    no. Did you watch the video? It's to keep people from smuggling in (or out) plants so that plant pathogens do not get introduced to our crops.

    Many people obviously don't understand the economic and practical value of plants, what sustains these people ? plants, if you never ate plants the animals you did eat would need plants and therefore you would need them as well, not rocket science

    Um... The cactus is not a single species. It's like saying that the cat is not a rare animal. Species of domestic cat aren't, no, but species such as the Sumatran tiger are. Not all cacti are the same species, much like all cats of the family felidae aren't common domestic cats, so some are rare..

    sigh, another example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. wiki "invasive plant species" to understand how important it is to regulate what plants are introduced into your biosphere... and no the usa isn't the only place, other places regulate too, examples: google "europe GMO labelling" and also google "uk plant import regulations"...

    Ok so you end up with them like what other collectors are trying to do. Admire them for what they are. But you have the government helping you collect them. Then you exploit them in exhibition spinning the story as a educational. That will only fuel the fire. Making other collectors envious and ultimately wanting it. There are others just as passionate you. Story was great at the beginning, the ending sucked. When you make sure they healthy enough, send them back to their native country and....
