    I love this, thank you!! So helpful to have engineering specific tips lol, I've seen a lot of 'study tips' from music/liberal arts majors that are kind of a joke when applied to engineering lol

    This was really helpful and relatable as I'm currently in my second week of my 2nd year. I was taking a break from my assignment to what I assume was going to be the start of my procrastination phase which in turn ended up, being my motivation to soldier on to continue my assignment. So thanks, for that : )

    Starting my 2nd year of Aerospace Engineering, from which I slacked a lot during the 1st year so I really need to step up this year.

      How big of a step-up from A-level study was your first year, in your opinion? I'm starting my Aero Eng degree this month and am a little worried.

    I would add having a capable computer is helpful for CAD and any simulation software, it can save time and more importantly stress. No one likes having a slow computer that can barely hang on, it's worth the investment

    • @marlinavoker5340
      @marlinavoker5340 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which would you recommend?

    • @matthewjeffries2096
      @matthewjeffries2096 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marlinavoker5340 Intel i5 or above (AMD equivalent), a dedicated graphics card like a 1000 series Nvidia, ram 8gb is fine but DDR4 is nice as it's fast, and if you can get SSD this will mean things open fast. Also with cad the viewing screen is important as a small laptop screen is more difficult than say a 24 inch monitor (not essential thou just nice to have).I personally saved up for a laptop over first year and got one on black Friday for about 800, which is alot but it's never been out gunned by solidworks or MATLAB and can run simulations in good time. I recently got a 24 inch monitor as I am remote atm and it's made things even better. A good way of working out what you need is looking at minimum requirements of softwares, it's all available on the internet. Don't got for something "for students" as generally they don't have the power for cad when compared to something that is more gaming orientated.

    I’ve heard that most first year students live in the Vale, is this a choice or do the university tend to put them there...? And do you think living in Selly oak in first year would mean you miss out? Great videos :)

    • @lizmyers5013
      @lizmyers5013  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The vale is really popular for first year students, from student choice though I think! I remember getting a list of the different accommodations and submitting the ones I wanted in ranked order, then you get what they put you in.. I lived out in selly oak for my first year but still had a great experience, so I don’t think living somewhere other than the vale will detract from your experience, thanks!:)

      James Goh there are lots of societies that can help you with CAD, but if you’re looking for that specifically I’d go for CADsoc, as they are great for teaching a number of different softwares!

    Do automotive engineering and mechanical engineering have the same modules for first year?

    • @lizmyers5013
      @lizmyers5013  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeff Nathan you’d have to check the syllabus, but I think at Birmingham all engineering disciplines take the same modules in first year- don’t hold me to that though!!
