- As the largest city in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a must for anyone traveling here for tourism. In this video, you'll discover Chang Mai's Old City, the walled city. Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 and it's the capital of Chiang Mai Province in northern Thailand. The name means "New City" in Thai. That's because back then it became the new capital of the Lan Na kingdom (an ancient kingdom that existed in the area). The city was also very important historically. It's strategically located on the Ping River (a major tributary of the Chao Phraya River), and close to major trading routes.

Chiang Mai is city for tourist , plenty of nice resort , flower land , natural view , unique culture and food that I love but I never visit temple even I stayed there 4 years
IT is a great city with lots of history. Do take the time to visit a temple or two as I know people would enjoy.

Obtw you could come back once a year every year for 20 years and not see it all ,on top of that 30-minute to 90-minute drives out of town you can't believe the mountains and Resorts and temples you will find I could go on and on but thank you for such a lovely video!
I have to laugh at my friend's that's a Bangkok is cheap LOL and did you know chiangmai is not as cheap as some other cities?
Any suggestions for other mountain and resort to see...we would like to return. I have heard that Cambodia is even cheaper

AYUTTHAYA HISTORIC PARK just 1 hour north of Bangkok, 45 minutes south of Chiangmai Lampang old capital of Lanna Kingdom it has great temples, 45 minutes north of Chiang Mai is Wat Ban Den unbelievable 6 temples complex near Mae Tang , Chiang Rai has the most beautiful flower festival December 24 thru January 7 don't miss the White Temple in Chiang Rai
