I snorkled over the "deep bit" once and watched as 2 divers descended, sending up bubbles like bright diamonds. Beautiful. Mind you, the surface was as deep as I wanted to go!
Wow, I've always wondered what it looks like down there. I've snorkeled over the top of the chasm before and was amazed at the way it just drops away to blackness. (Felt a little vertigo, which was weird). Thanks for showing so clearly what it's like down there. 5 stars.
i would like to add a little comment to this clip Back in early 80s we would dive this portion of pics My good buddy would sit just past the saddle at about 55mts i would cruise on down the small tunnel sandy track go to about 78 80mts all this diving was on air single ali tank with back up back at deco stop it was my favourite dive of our mount trips N Grovermann
Amazing footage. First watched this at the CDAA forum on the weekend and have showed a number of others since. The mystery of the depths of the Chasm would have to be one of the most fascinating places in Mount Gambier. While we are all aware there is a 36 metre limit imposed that we all adhere to, obviously for properly equipped, trained and experienced divers there are avenues to apply for and gain permission to explore the depths. May I ask how one goes about applying to get that permission?
Stunning, if i ever get well am starting cavediving open water certificates but have very little intrest to dive ocean any more just some good jeeties maybe, gotta dip my toes at ewens ponds again an c how it feels. Would be amazing to achieve cave acreditation.
Pinger is a piece of scientific equipment that sends out a signal that helps map depths of caves tgat was part of the project these divers were apart of.
In the US, the words pickaninny is a caricature and a racial slur. In Australian Aboriginal and Melanesian pidgin, it refers to a small child and is in common usage by these indigenous people. Piccaninnie Ponds really just means small ponds. I'm sure it's all about intent.
