    As a WA man, Subiaco Oval was the mecca of footy in Western Australia. After it was demolished had the privilege of taking my footy to the ground, stepping of the train and heading to the ground brought back some good memories, and taking the footy and having a kick still felt the energy, built on the memories of all that great footy in WA. Glad they kept the old gate from the original oval.

      As a North fan that lives in Melbourne, I loved Subiaco. Every time North played there, I'd travel over and attend. I don't know what it was, I just loved the ground. Everything down to the siren. It had character, like a lot of the old grounds. I went to the WACA a few times, but we didn't play there as much. I'll never forget the roar when the champ Nic Natainui broke our hearts in 2013, after the final siren!! It was hectic, even though I was shattered!!!

    Waverly was a shthole. Miles out of town, always freezing cold, crap seats. Glad it went away.

    I miss Subiaco Oval
    Even though I enjoy Optus Stadium
    I still remember going to a lot of West Coast Games there and one Fremantle game in 2015 against Essendon

    Waverley Park did not have a capacity of 100,000.
    It probably was just over 70,000 under health and safety regulations of today but most fitted in the ground was just over 90,000 on some Queen's Birthday Public Holiday. Apparently there were people standing in the aisles on that day so it is totally nonsense to say it fitted 100 thousand in there. You were at least right about the proposal to originally extend it to be 150,000 but that was obviously canned well before most of us were born. Having been to matches at VFL Park and Football Park that both had a similar feel about them. They were not the traditional suburban grounds that most clubs sprung up from and were more or less neutral stadiums for the SANFL and VFL back in the 70's and 80's. Hawks and Saints only became home tenants there sometime in the 1990's. So you should be corrected that most of the history of Waverley Park was used by all clubs in Victoria and was not any clubs homeground for basically the first two decades of it's history. The Preliminary Final used to be played out their traditionally well before we had a final eight series. I sort of resent Docklands has taken it's place as the second main venue in Victoria because Docklands only holds around 50,000 and because it was designed so badly , the ground is not good for day time football so the roof is on most of the time which is a real downer on a nice sunny day. As it is another inner city ground it also means in a big suburban area of Melbourne there is no ground more central to outer south and eastern suburb people that we used to have when I first started going to football.
    Went to Subiaco Oval once on my one trip over to Perth. Was a nice suburban ground.

    It’s bittersweet reminiscing about Waverley, Subiaco and Footy park. These grounds were icons in the original state leagues, but the game has moved so far forward it’s an overall benefit for the fans thee grounds have been replaced. The convenience of southern cross basically stopping on the docklands front gate makes attending games in Melbourne so more convenient than going out and back from Mulgrave, and Adelaide oval being a short walk from the city is especially a convenience for visitors compared to going out to west lakes, I can’t voice an opinion on Perth stadium never being to Western Australia, I’m sure it would have major benefits over Subiaco and the waca though.

    • @UCATTFooty
      @UCATTFooty  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The WACA is quite difficult to get to, however the accessibility of Subiaco was far greater than Optus. Optus purely relies on public transport and doesn’t provide an option to park, and have multiple drink/feed options near by. Obviously far much more modern and comfortable but I miss Subi greatly. Definitely agree with you on the accessibility of Marvel and Adelaide Oval. Never been to Waverley but feels a fair way out of the CBD

      I just personally really enjoyed the option of being able to get off at Leederville/Subi station, or park in the surrounding suburbs and get a great pre match atmosphere in the surrounds. That being said, I would agree with the parking options being limited

    The Western Bulldogs do have plans to return games to Whitten Oval in the near future. The proposal and the redevelopment of the area would see the Bulldogs move 3 home games to the ground, those games would be the ones schedules to be played in Ballarat. The idea is for this to happen by the end of the decade.

    Cario Oval in Geelong was the Cats original home ground before Kardinia Park.
    It held Geelong's first final in the VFL back in 1897 where Essendon won against Geelong that proved to be a vital game for the Bombers to win the first ever VFL premiership.

    Good video but just to correct you on Waverley park. The concrete cancer wasn't found at Waverley it was at the old southern stand at the MCG. In 1991 the southern stand was demolished and the new southern stand that we have today was built in 1992. Waverley park was sold by the end of the 90s last game played in 1999 to make waybfor the docklands stadium in 2000.
