  • To get you up and running with your new microARC 4, Tormach is providing this video in addition to the Owner's Manual that comes with the product. Make sure to read the Owner's Manual before installing your microARC 4, for all the warnings, cautions, tool requirements, and for any changes with the procedure.
    Chapter Marks:
Power Off the Machine and the PathPilot Controller, 0:32
Set PCNC 440 Dip Switches, 0:39
Install the A-Axis Motor Driver, 0:58
    Install the Power Harness, 2:28
Install the Stepper Driver Wiring Harness, 3:16
Install Power Supply Wiring Harness, 4:42
Attach the Wiring Harnesses to Power and Stepper Driver, 5;55
    Install the microARC 4, 6:35
    Update the PathPilot Controller, 7:57
Define the 4th Axis in PathPilot, 8:35
Adjust the microARC 4 Runout, 8:54
The Tormach microARC 4 provides high-precision 4th axis machining in a compact footprint. Designed to fit on all of our machines from the PCNC 440 to the 1100M/MX, it reduces both operator workload and cycle times with a low maintenance harmonic drive. Using Tormach's new hollow shaft stepper motor design, long stock can be passed all the way through the chuck, harmonic drive, and motor to enable high volume production without reduced yield from pre-cutting stock into short lengths. With flexible mounting options designed in, it can be used on either the right or left side of the machine table.
    Features:
Constructed with a harmonic drive made by Nidec-Shimpo Japan - high quality and extremely rigid gearbox compared to the inexpensive harmonic 4th axes available online.
Near-zero backlash and no maintenance required. Eliminates the difficult worm-screw adjustment of a normal 4th axis.
19mm center bore pass-through for long bar stock. Stock can be passed all the way through the chuck and out the back of the 4th axis - no need to cut stock into small pieces when doing a production run of many parts.
ER 40 collet faceplate included - high precision and repeatability for holding round or hex stock.
High rotational speed - decreased machining time compared to our old 4th axis offerings (nearly 4x as fast!). 3.6 RPM vs 13+ RPM on the new model.
Lightweight and strong aluminum body - can be installed into the machine without a hoist or team lift.

Could this handle a 6x12x4 tombstone if I put it on a riser on a 770m?

Do you plan to release a 5c collet chuck for the microarc, or is there any on the market that are compatible, that tormach recommends?

Hello Chris, we are not working on a 5C work holding solution for the microarc. We went with the ER collet setup since they are much more flexible for size variations in the material. If you need a 5C for your application we do have a 3d model of the MicroArc available on our website to assist you in your design.
