- We have the pigs loaded up on the livestock trailer and are taking them to the butcher. The I am going to pick up 55 wooden fence posts from farm fence solutions. After that we clean up the pig pen and lock up the goats and chickens in the barn for the night.

We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acres homestead. We just finished building our log cabin overlooking our pond. We are trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey living the rural life and developing our property and becoming more self sufficient.
Hi..... Evan and Rebecca nice to see you both, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐕🐖🐈🌱🐐🎥👍👍👍
Nice for Rebecca to do the outro!
Love watching your videos very interesting, definitely keep them coming. God bless you Amen
The goats love of leaves is the perfect reason to get one of those push leaf collectors to pickup the leaves from the yard and dump them in the goats fenced in areas. Save some money on feed for the leaf falling season by giving them what they want. sure the chickens will scratch in them looking for any hidden bugs but the goats will go nuts on the piles.
If you go to that place again for posts remember to drop some straps under the posts bundles before they drop them on the trailer so you can use them to lift the full bundle when you get back the the farm. No need to move individual posts when you have the tools to move them all with some planing ahead of time.
Very healthy looking freeloaders you got!
The pigs looked good for the short time u had them ..
You & your wife inspired me , this was my 1 st year getting feeder pigs .
I got them @ 10 lbs each Apr 5 th
Oct 20 th hanging weight was 358 & 345
I was very blessed with lots of sausage & chops 🤣🤣😋😋.
Stay Safe & GodBless
Maybe you could put the goats in the pasture where you had the pigs and let them do a little more of the clean up for you. It seems a lot of the people on you tube that have laying hens aren't getting the number of eggs they used to. That is in all different parts of the country as well. Hope they start laying soon. Your posts look really nice and straight. They will make a fine looking fence. Have a Blessed day.
It may take more than a week to get them back in sync. Any changes usually takes a couple of weeks for them to catch up on. Side note my oldest hens that were laying well actually stopped laying because I changed up their schedule for the new laying hens, its been a couple weeks and now they are laying again. The chickens will eat far less of the high protein as well. All else fells you've got broth and fresh meat.
Rebecca has a fun sense of humor.
We Used To Take a Lot Of Our Hogs To The Amish Butcher.. They Do Really Good Work..& We Even Have A Local Slaughterhouse about 2-3 miles from home But Still Worth it to Take Them All The Way To Amish! When We Didnt Do It Our Self's !
when my dad raised pigs he had a 3pt mover that he put together out of junk lying around, abought the only thing new on it was the sides a piece of welded wire panel that he bent to form a box with a 2 ft opening for a drop down door.could also use as a platform to carry stuff with sides off. and yes pigs will find everthng out there by the way was a rolling cutter/coulter off a moldboard plow in the tree:)
Thanks for the video. Appreciate your attitude and work ethic. Keep sharing your thoughts and experience. In these times, it's encouraging to watch diligent people doing what's productive not destructive. Blessings.
☝️🙏🇺🇸💪👉...
That's great that you got the fence posts AND for a little cheaper! Bye pigs 😋😋😋
Great video
I’m reminded of the old saying, “Just between you and me and a fence post.” 😁 LOL!!
You and your wife are adorable, I love watching 👀
Greetings from a gramma in fl.
your chickens need lights on til 9 pm.... turn lights on about 5 pm......(14 hours of daylight a day).... i used scratch feed to keep hens bodies warm along with layer mash.....
...bye bye pigs, hello bacon..lol..good video..stay safe...
Chicken egg drop in production. We changed our feed for the chickens from our local coop feed (mix was 14% protein) to Layena and so many other feed , nothing was working. We went back to the 14% pig mix feed and a timer light from being on from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm production is back. The feed Is ground up corn maze etc
Seeing you unload those posts reminded me why I love my deck-over trailer. I do not miss those days at all.
I recommend lowering your chicken feeders. Our hens were not laying for a few days about a month ago, we opened up and lowered our nesting boxes so the chickens had easy access. We also lowered our feeders to 2-3 inches off the ground. Since then they have been laying normally
It was good to see little Maggie in her fancy purple coat!
It's good that you were concerned about the comfort of your pigs, but, about 5 years ago I bought 5 head of reg. Tamworth hogs and it was late August before I went to Oklahoma to pick them up...it was hot and humid...I removed the front glass from the trailer and sprayed them down with a waterhose at my brother's house in Northwest Arkansas, I lived in Northeast Arkansas about a 6 hour drive
I stopped two more times once at a service station and borrowed their water to wet them down again, about an hour and a 1/2 later I stopped at a
Feed store and bought 250lbs of wheat shorts to have for them and gave them another soaking....then went home when I got home I mixed a five gallon bucket of feed and water using a drill and wallboard mud mixer to feed them and gave them a good drink of water...hogs don't sweat so they have to lay in wallows in the summers but, they're not as susceptible to getting chilled in winter because they don't sweat....but. regardless when moving hogs in the south in summer you need to prepare to feed them upon arrival wet feed and a good drink
Good Afternoon Evan and Rebecca! I look forward to your videos! You'll miss those pigs! I noticed on other videos shows there chicken aren't laying eggs either! GOD-BLESS Y'ALL!!!!♡♡♡♡♡
You sure got a lot done ,glad you found some fence post. Well, maybe it’s time to get a new bunch of chicken ,all except penny, and the other cute ones. Lol The pigs have given you a lot of work to do. I enjoyed this video, but I enjoy all your videos. I’m happy the weather is getting cooler for you. Be safe and God bless, love ya, by the way,the trees are just beautiful around the pond.
I do love how hens sound.
Good one's with the goat's Rebecca, loved the joke's 😁😁
Nice looking hogs! I've noticed it's getting really hard to find quality fencing products at this time. You're lucky you're not too far from that fencing company. Pigs always find the stuff hidden underground.
I smell Bacon and Smoked Hams!!! Nice job on the fence posts and raising of the porkers!!! Thanks...Peace!!!
Another great visit
It’s pretty cool how things can change into a farm
Idk if its been said already, but couldn't you run the goats through where the pigs were to clean up the lower branches? I think that'd be easier on the clean up you plan to do. Plus it's already fenced from the pigs.
My chickens love a good chicken block. It gives them something to do and great nutrition. Blocks do vary from different stores. And whole corn instead of cracked corn. Again, some whole oats, along with what you have. Mix with your cement mixer. Be sure to get some Diatomacious earth to keep them parasite clean. Once a week I give them chopped garlic, thyme, oregano and coconut oil...just a small dish. Hang in there...they will get going on the eggs again.
Getting it done. Those pigs can clean up new ground, lol
Awesome video and thanks for sharing
Love the video Evan and Rebecca . and Evan shoten your cylinder on bucket .
Good job Rebecca and Evan. Lots of traveling but you got things accomplished and productive work everywhere. Excellent deal with the fence posts and they looked top of the line too. Thanks for sharing with us. Be safe and continued blessings to you all.👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great work as always!!
Nice looking pigs and fence posts. My chickens here in Maine are just starting to get back to laying.
Many blessings.
Very interesting how the tree grew up through the metal, you guys are such hard workers!
In actuality the tree grows around the piece. I've seen fencing that was nailed to trees get swallowed up.
JudithB My critters have been eating like hogs too. I cleaned out the frig for extra feed for the chickens, but it takes a week or so I think to reset their egg laying schedules! LOL The new Rhode Islands are doing well and laying slowly, the Easter Eggers are still on vacation.
Don't give up on the extra light, it often takes 3 or 4 weeks for an increase in egg production.
Love your blog
Post must be affected by the lumber shortage going on. Those are some good looking posts. Hopefully you chickens can contribute some eggs before they end up contributing meat.
I had a family friend tell me she adds red pepper flakes to chicken feed during the cold season to get them to keep laying eggs while its cold out. Might be something to try.
Looks like a beautiful fall day. Most of the leaves are gone here in Wyoming and we’ve had snow a few times. You guys are such hard workers, but I see the fruits of your labor .....bacon🐖🐖🐖
I just bought some post at Rural King in Warrenton Mo near St Louis last week. They had a bunch then.
Good video
Such a dream property..
Great video and some hilarious parts there at the end loved it!!!
You two need to get a sow n bull pig to keep as breeders. That way you will never have to worry about having bacon and ham to refill. You'll be raising them. Where we come from, no eggs means chicken for dinner. Like how the place is looking. Can't wait to see some cows and a guard mule on the place.
Extra light at the end of the day instead of the morning. Mine did well with 6am til 8pm during winter months
As a reminder, don't forget to put down crop seed after you clean up the pig area
I never realized you were in Illinois after subscribing for about a year. Your way south of me, but we like to visit friends on the southern tip of the state. That is until covid hit. Stay safe.
The next thing you need now is some holes for all those new fence post. !👍✌🇺🇲🤣😆😁
Those are some well behaved cats around chickens.
As dark as it appears inside your henhouse I feel that you should keep the egg laying light on all day especially if most of them are spending a lot of time indoors during the day rather than outdoors. I thought that it was quite noticable that when you opened up the doors they were hardly rushing to go outside unlike in the summer time. The cats and goat were much more eager!
Laying Pellets 16 percent once a day that what we do and that's works for me. At least 20 a day.
Have you tried to use a laying mash feed our chickens were doing the same and it helped out.
That happened to my grandpa used to have a chicken business and that same thing happened
The pork chops look healthy.
Give the chickens some corn everyday, too.
The only wood post that should be put in the ground is Cedar or Black Locust. Both with the ends going in the ground charred with fire. EPA registered wood preservatives changed allot around 2009. I doubt wood post last 10 years now ( My front deck built in 2009 only lasted 8 years) my pool deck built in 2006 is still sound..
Unloading those posts was a lot of work.
Evan use straps or chains to lift the bundles
Your old tractor is very nice. Can you restore it with new paint?
Do you give your chichens food scraps too and watermelon rinds to it won't hurt to try l no people have.
My sister had chickens that were not laying. Someone told her to give them whole corn kernels and they started laying..even in the winter.
Try feeding chickens whole kernel corn. Advice from old lady from England. Made a difference
To bad you did not have a chain down before they put those post on your trailer. You could have just hooked the chain up to the bucket and pick them all up at once for each bundle. How much were the post please?
You two make a great looking couple. Only thing missing is some kids running around the place. Mine are all grown and i am thinking of adopting. Just to have more laughter and those smiles n ohss and ahsss at Christmas time.
Sounds like chicken dinner every Sunday in 2021.
How wonderful that you will have so much meat in your freezer! Is it that unusual for chickens to slow down laying this time of year? So many of the homestead channels I watch are all experiencing low to no eggs right now.
Yes, quite normal, due to lower natural light levels and shorter day length and often reduced appetite. Also like most other wild birds they need a "rest period" generally winter time to conserve body condition (that is few if any eggs being produced) and slowly moving towards egg laying in the Spring onwards.
@@Dan.Whiteford Thank you. Good info and makes sense.
Don't worry, mine stop laying by 50% this week
I predict some chicken noodle soup and ham sandwiches in the near future. 🐔 🐷
Stringers before unloading.
I always been told hogs can take being wet or cold ... just not both
👍👍
If it makes you feel any better I have 14 hens and I have not seen any eggs in about a month. ZERO. First time in a year that I had to get store eggs. 🤦🏻
Hey,
Love all the videos, keep them up
What is the brand / name for the fork tynes used on your tractor bucket
Cheers mate
The clamp on pallet forks are from titan attachments. They clamps don't have a lot of holding powet, you definitely need the chains to really hold on them on the bucket.
thx
Oh boy, pork chops for breakfast.
they need 14 hrs. of light!!!!
Have you tried letting a radio play all day
Have you wormed the chickens?
Give the chickens some of the pig feed..
Try cutting green grass and giving that to the chickens.
😊❤️❤️
Could you please tell the price of buying the hogs , and raising them until they were taken to butcher ,?
More light = More eggs
Bye guys!
Man I miss living in Illinois, love the land of Lincoln. If it wasn't for your cold winters, I'd be there now, all my family still there have a sister down by you.
Do you have sweats that open up the front "? I have trouble raising my arms ,so therefore I can’t wear a pull on, please let me know. Thanks.
you let the chickens loose during the day , chances are they are laying somewhere else . look in every place they can get into they like laying in secluded places . i saw a couple places in the goat area
Or keep them in for a couple of days and see if there are eggs.
👍 👍
You need a metal detector with all the metal schattered around the farm.
you need a rooster and live feed a couple of times a week
What are the sizes of all the post ? Thanks
No grit for the chickens?
Not really needed when free ranged like these. Good idea though during the winter when cooped up.
Did you check them for lice?
