    As a kid I thought that whenever I watched a movie all the actors got together spontaneously and performed it in front of a camera...even for animated movies.

    1. When I was a toddler, I thought that since eating food made you grow, that meant that some of the food you ate became part of your body and expanded your skin. Example I thought that the balls under my penis were parts of breakfast patty sausage I ate and that my ankle bones were hot dogs I ate. (I was partially right but only certain parts of food become ONE part of your body.)
    Later, I was told by a friend that the balls under your penis are partially what is needed to have babies. Since I didn't know about sperm or the correlation between erections and intercourse, I assumed you just touched the tip to the female hole and one of your testees slipped through your urethra and gestated into a baby and that it grew back over time since some families have more than two kids.
    2. I didn't know that black people, hispanics and asians were different races until I was told. I just assumed that some people had brown skin for some reason. Thank you society. Being colorblind was fun while it lasted.
    3. I didn't realize that other countries had different governments or languages. I assumed they were all just fun ways to divide the land on a map. In school when I saw a Mercer Mayer computer game on a different language setting, I assumed there was something wrong with the program and laughed that the critters were all talking funny. I didn't even know that there were different religions or that religion existed. I just assumed that church was a community thing and that we all just believed in God or something.
    4. I didn't realize Gay and Trans people were a real thing. I always assumed when two males kissed in a cartoon or a funny Tv show/movie that it was just meant to be played off as a joke. Also I was kind of aware that it was a surgery that changed your gender but assumed it was a rare thing that only 2 or 3 people ever got and didn't understand why. Also because kids at school used gay as a derogatory thing, I assumed it was wrong until my mother told me otherwise. I later learned that I was bisexual but because my school was full of homophobes, I kept it from everyone and even denied it myself even though I had crushes on Orlando Bloom, Tobey Mcguire and the Prince of Tennis (I had just assumed that I admitted they were handsome men.)
    5. Since my first exposure to guns was Star Wars, I first assumed that guns in real life shot lasers. Then I saw a gun get discharged in an old Godzilla movie on TV and realized that was not the case.
    6. Speaking of Godzilla, when I was very little, I thought that the original was made with documented footage of an actual monster attack and the story was written and filmed around it. I guess the special effects really live up.
    7. Also this is irrelevant but when I was a kid, I asked my sister why Mario comes back to life after he dies and she answered that if you die once, the rest of the Marios are robots.

    In elementary school I was told there were cells in your body used for making repairs from injuries but if you got too hurt there wouldn't be enough and you would keep bleeding and die. This led to the belief there was some type of storage organ that already had all the repair cells your body would ever have. Thus every scratch and nick was counting down to the eventual death via bleed out. This made me quite the scaredy cat and personified Chucky from the rugrats for a bit.

    12:10 I thought this too, but about music. Like when I played the CD, it created a link to the band I was listening to, and there was a little screen in front of the musicians so they knew if I wanted the volume louder, or if I wanted to change the track. I still think about that to this day - the album was Keane- Hopes and Fears.

    Thought everyone wearing those fluorescent green vests was "a crossing guard on break." I figured out I was wrong last October. As a 17 year old. In my defense the school security guards always wore them while they directed traffic in the mornings and I'd see them walking off campus to buy coffee and food so I put 2 and 2 together. I did not get 4 in the end though.

    When I was 5, I thought money change worked like this
    Say you want to buy something that is $1, but you only have ¢50. In my mind, you would ask for the item, pay your ¢50, get the item, and then get given ¢50 “change” by the store

    I thought that old people were killed when they turned 100 by the queen and prime minister. Oh and that when I was 5 that that was the final time anyone would die because the queen said that it would never happen again. I was watching a Remembrance Day news show. I vastly misunderstood it.

    • @earthhound
      @earthhound 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought that people only died when they got shot like in the movies. It wasn't until my grandpa died when I realized that you can die of old age. (technically he died because he smoked but my folks made it clear that old people eventually die.) Also what really depressed me was learning that kids could die. I never thought that there were diseases that could kill kids and thought that no human would be evil enough to kill one.

    I thought that since I was 5 years old and my sister was 13 that I'd be a girl when I turn 13 as well. I deduced that she was a boy at 5 because I'm 5 years old and I'm a boy.
    Thankfully this was in a slightly more sensible era where PC culture hadn't had as much of an impact as it does today. Probably would've been taken away by child services and put on hormone blockers or some shit.
