Clothing is preserved only for worshipping dieties that are consecrated in temples. Even in India people only wear pants. But priests within a temple wear dhoti. Dhoti isnt part of culture. Its more to do with way of life that sanatana dharma represents. In Madhwacharyas tradition there is a scripture called Hari Kathaamrita sara where the science of dhoti is given. If dhoti and sarees are worn the way they should be worn, it would help in continence on urinary systems and priests are supposed to perform rituals for long hours esp in vedic times and couldnt go to the bathroom. If they did have to go theyd have to take a bath and start rituals again. If you are home and perform arati at home altar its ok.But consecrated places need to be done a certain way. Please watch sinu josephs videos on these matters. Tight inner garments and waist down has impact on chakras so its been prescribed that way. Dress should be the last thing. If hinduism survived SEVERAL attacks for eons, Krishna consciousness will survive and spread TO ALL if Krishna wills. I think we are placing Krishnas power and will below something as trivial as a dress. Philosphy will stick with people. If someone isnt comfortable need not wear. But to want to lead an arati or perform rituals to a murthy at a temple one should be able to embrace it all. Its about Krishna and not anything else.
You can quote whatever text you want; I'll stick to the Bhagavatam and to Srila Prabhupada own example. Yes, he wore a dhoti (he was Indian; he was a sannyasi), but he wore stitched clothes all the time on the altar. Meanwhile, as the world is going to hell, we are concerned with stitched clothes. How sad.
when we look at all this as culture instead of science then food also comes under it. Then it becomes why do you want me to change my food habits. No elements of Krishna consciousness or Sanatana dharma is CULTURE its science. I think discriminating a person based on what they wear and eat is ABSOLUTELY wrong. But if ones intention is to practice Krishna Bhakti its upon ISKCON movement to explain elements of it and its impact on our bodies chakras and how they help in saatvic way of life. Even Shikha and shaving ones head and why women grow long hair is backed by yogic science NOT CULTURE. if one hasnt understood or wants to understand Sanatana Dharma as a whole Krishna consciousness will be hard to accept. However when it comes to preaching, converting etc i believe people come to Krishna consciousness not the other way around how much ever it looks like these Bhaktas trying to get souls to accept Krishna. ONLY AND ONLY IF Krishna has it for the soul will it ever happen. That being said efforts to reach westerners doesnt need to stop. But success isnt measured by how many westerners or non indian people accept Krishna. For He is Jagadpita and Jagadguru for Him all of us are same pants or dhoti. I hope in addition to Bhagavatam, Gita and Vaishnava granthas iskcon also includes Shastras and their science in their curriculum a lot more. I am sure Prabhupadas books are there in the subjects we need more to reach logical scientific minds. this speaker spoke well. I also agree to many Chandra prabhus points. But i observe that this whole dress thing is an issue only because some people apparently have shown it as a prerequisite for Bhakti which it isnt. And temples, consecration, murthys height, upasana and its effects on human body isnt well understood or articulated.
well spoken
