GP you’re right about trying to diagnose the problem yourself first. Great satisfaction when you do find and fix the problem. However it’s always nice to have a Guy as your neighbor. The flat face connectors are much better then the agricultural fitting but definitely much more expensive, almost double the cost. Take care.

Common leaks GP I keep an assortment of o rings also. Think just plugging in and out over time they wear. Your right on hydraulic fluid, seams like I always adding a little. Good video 👍✊
I learned the same thing but on a power washer. I had to change the whole tip though. They didn't have the O-ring in stalk at the hardware store. That reminds me that I need to go back and buy that ring, so I have a back-up!

GP, good job diagnosing and repairing. You have the right attitude going about things. You also have great neighbors. You may want to check the male end of the connector to make sure that there is no burr or gouge that caused the issue. May have been dirt or simply a worn out O ring. Have a great week!

I learned so much from tracking the leak to identifying the root cause. Now I hope I never have a leak (wishful thinking) but if I do, I have a couple of places and a potential failure point (o-ring) to check on. 👍👍👍
It’s channels like yours that got me to finally bite the bullet and purchase an LX2610. I was concerned because I’m not overly mechanical and the thought of having to take it down to the dealer for every little thing that goes wrong, was terrifying. However, your videos made these common breakdowns and failures, not appear like such a daunting task. They drop my tractor off tomorrow, (had a loader and 3rd function valve installed). I’ve had this exact same issue probably two or three times a year on my third function couplers. Often, the smaller o-ring in the back gets pushed out and then the valve can’t close all the way. That causes the worst leaks imo.
You should look at getting a o-ring pick set. It makes it easier to get them in ,and out . They are not that expensive to buy. You should be able to get one from a hardware store or auto parts store.
Good on ya, Gord for taking your time and using logic to figure this out? Can you change the hydraulic couplers to the flat type that were on your 2601? Do they have the same flow rate?
Hi Greg! The flow rate is only .5 gpm more but I only have the one set so would have to buy another pair. But I might in time if I need to replace. I certainly liked the flat face much more. Cheers!
Speaking of hydraulic Pioneer style connectors, Gord did you do a past video on releasing the hydraulic pressure on the couplings by moving the loader control stick with the ignition on but not running? If you did, it might be helpful to link it here.
Good job on your part to fix that coupling yourself, Gord. If you think you are not good at fixing things, you haven't met me, the epitome of the meaning inept.
Put pressure on that line by operating the grapple clamp and check for leaks at that time. By slipping that Pioneer coupler together tends to chew away the O-ring also check the transmission linkage that comes out of the transmission for leakage
John Deere sells a hydraulic oil dye that makes your fluid red. My brother in law and I use it in our L3901’s. Makes finding small leaks much easier and makes it stand out on the dip stick much easier than the clear Super UDT 2.
Good job trouble shooting Gord. I have 4 hoses with a 45 degree elbow on them so they don't always get centered before being pushed in. I've found the end of the male ends can damage the O rings going in. Also on My New Holland they have a split flat plastic O ring that goes in first so the rubber O ring has a flat surface to butt up to. Those help with the life span of the rubber O rings. We switch My loader on and off a lot. I like it off when mowing. But make any driveway repair We just put it on maybe a 2 minute process.
I found over the years that is O-rings are a big problem at a big pain in the posterior. You’re gonna have problems on your manifold connections also and there again it’ll be an O-ring you’ll have problems with your center pinned on your axle in the front there again it’ll be an O-ring.
I find it interesting that you actually lost enough oil by change implement that you needed to add oil on a regular basis, when you had no leaks. I am switching out implements hydraulic hose all the time My grapple, flail mower,rear blade and land scape rake all have hydraulics. However, the hydraulic oil level is remaining constant. Interesting.

Your problem with hydraulic fluid loss is an O-ring gasket that goes in the fittings you could pick up a box of a ring gaskets at Harbor Freight for seven dollars you go to Kabota 🚜 and get that gasket. It probably cost $70.😂😂

Always good to have backup O-rings kicking around (including for your pressure washer) You can probably find plenty at Princess Auto, individually or as an assortment box. It appears though Guy has you covered.
Great job finding and fixing that! For what it’s worth, it’s also very easy to change your couplers to flat face. I use the smaller 1/4”ones from Summit Hydraulics. They have plenty of hydraulic flow and cost ~US$35 for a pair. Best of all, less hydraulic oil seeping when you disconnect!

Lucky leak GP !! I have a swivel fitting on the Case 580 backhoe that's suffering the same leak, but I seem to never remember to take the "O" ring kit along with me when I go to its location. LOL Good job my friend and remember as a HVAC service tech, I found that big problems are usually just little problems magnified. Btw, most all us guys out in the country have an o ring box...... You definitely lose less hydraulic fluid with flat faced couplers. I've used the Summit flat faced couplers in the past with good results. Good catch on the missing o-ring inside the pioneer coupler and having neighbors like Guy certainly helps!

My dealership dropped off my new 2610 with 1 qt of hydraulic fluid. Said I might lose 1/2 a qt or so......I had to add 6 qts!! UNACCEPTABLE!! They lost a customer.
When you pulled out a ring out, was it cut on the 45° angle and if it was that’s the way Kabota 🚜 makes it they make just about all the O-rings like that. I just replaced one on my axle pin and matter fact I replace two of them And I was very surprised when I got them from Kabota 🚜 that they both were cut, but after researching and talking to Kabota 🚜, they said that’s the way it comes

One of my hobbies is playing with classic muscle cars, and older cars ALWAYS leak somewhere, so I keep all the cardboard from large packages stored in a corner of my garage. They become my leak detectors. Even if it only leaks when running under pressure, there will be residual drips. O rings, seals are always going bad over time.. Like I ain't got anything else to do.. 😉
There is different types of oil rings. The normal ones you get from Princess do not work with hydraulic oil. You need special ones that can take the heat. I found this out on one of my backhoes. On a fitting I lost the O ring. So I went to my kit and replaced it. After 1/2 hour when the fluid got hot the O ring would fold and go through the line. It would jam in the release valve and bypass so I had no operations. After searching on the web I found you need O rings that are made to take the heat. You might be ok as your fitting might hold it in place. Just though I would share this. On another note my B2650 had a leak on one of the lift arms. Found the short hose that runs through the frame had rubbed on a weld piece. Replaced with new and install split loom over it. Good trouble shooting. I did the same to find my leak.
Surprised you were leaking worse with 1/3 of the ring missing. It doesn’t take much damage at all to an o-ring to cause a leak. Pretty simple fix. Thanks for the video
Flat face vs pioneer hydraulic couplers. Flat face is usually always on skid steers and such while pioneer is a very much agricultural couple... it is almost always on tractors.
Two things. First, safety. Be very careful feeling around leaking hydraulics under pressure. There may be a spray that will cut right through that rag and glove and inject oil into your skin. You do not want that to happen, believe me. Second, other than residual pressure there shod be no pressure on that joint unless you are moving the grapple or clamped hard onto something. A true test would have been to exercise it a little.
Good detective word Gord. If you are ever in doubt, take one of those disposable shop towels and tie it around the coupler. Use the tractor for half an hour and see if any oil saturates the shop towel.
GP, O-ring issues, boy I have had my share! The spool valve on my RK 37 backhoe has leaked profusely for quite some time. Knew it was coming from one of the controls but replaced all the cartridge O-rings (12 of them to be exact !) Four times!!!! After this last time, only have 1 cartridge drips a little. Dare I go in once again to try to replace another O-ring? Nah, I'll deal with the drip for as much as I use the hoe ! Only drips when I use it, but still bothers me. Good on you that you found yours!
I love your patient optimism. Very inspiring. I try to do projects that are equal to or 1 step above my current capability so I can grow my skills but not get overwhelmed.

25 years ago I wouldn't have tried to fix anything. Today with youtube I figure I can fix most things. There's no harm in trying. I wouldn't worry about the small loss of oil hooking and unhooking the connectors, IMO it keeps those tiny ball bearings lubricated.
Nice fix GP. Shortly after I got my tractor it sprung a leak from the valve body. I thought something broke. Oil was flowing out pretty steadily. I called the dealership and they sent a mechanic out. The fitting that the quick connector connects to was loose.

I swear I began checking mine more regularly because of your videos. I was never down even a drop on hydraulic fluid or engine oil. But I'm now in the habit of checking it more often. Cheers.

Gp have you tried relieving the pressure bleed off before disconnect

One of my hobbies is playing with classic muscle cars, and older cars ALWAYS leak somewhere, so I keep all the cardboard from large packages stored in a corner of my garage. They become my leak detectors. Even if it only leaks when running under pressure, there will be residual drips. O rings, seals are always going bad over time.. Like I ain't got anything else to do.. 😉

There is different types of oil rings. The normal ones you get from Princess do not work with hydraulic oil. You need special ones that can take the heat. I found this out on one of my backhoes. On a fitting I lost the O ring. So I went to my kit and replaced it. After 1/2 hour when the fluid got hot the O ring would fold and go through the line. It would jam in the release valve and bypass so I had no operations. After searching on the web I found you need O rings that are made to take the heat. You might be ok as your fitting might hold it in place. Just though I would share this. On another note my B2650 had a leak on one of the lift arms. Found the short hose that runs through the frame had rubbed on a weld piece. Replaced with new and install split loom over it.
Good trouble shooting. I did the same to find my leak.
Surprised you were leaking worse with 1/3 of the ring missing. It doesn’t take much damage at all to an o-ring to cause a leak. Pretty simple fix. Thanks for the video
Flat face vs pioneer hydraulic couplers. Flat face is usually always on skid steers and such while pioneer is a very much agricultural couple... it is almost always on tractors.
Two things. First, safety. Be very careful feeling around leaking hydraulics under pressure. There may be a spray that will cut right through that rag and glove and inject oil into your skin. You do not want that to happen, believe me.
Second, other than residual pressure there shod be no pressure on that joint unless you are moving the grapple or clamped hard onto something. A true test would have been to exercise it a little.

Good detective word Gord. If you are ever in doubt, take one of those disposable shop towels and tie it around the coupler. Use the tractor for half an hour and see if any oil saturates the shop towel.

I find my hydraulic lines for the grapple and any rear Implement tends to drip so I have to replace it ever so often

GP, O-ring issues, boy I have had my share! The spool valve on my RK 37 backhoe has leaked profusely for quite some time. Knew it was coming from one of the controls but replaced all the cartridge O-rings (12 of them to be exact !) Four times!!!!
After this last time, only have 1 cartridge drips a little. Dare I go in once again to try to replace another O-ring? Nah, I'll deal with the drip for as much as I use the hoe ! Only drips when I use it, but still bothers me. Good on you that you found yours!
Kubota B77 backhoe spool valve has the same leak issues
If it can leak, hydraulics will. Like death and taxes.
I love your patient optimism. Very inspiring. I try to do projects that are equal to or 1 step above my current capability so I can grow my skills but not get overwhelmed.

Excellent detective skills Gord! Fluid leaks can travel throwing us off target! I think we all have love/hate relationships with our hydraulic fittings!
25 years ago I wouldn't have tried to fix anything. Today with youtube I figure I can fix most things. There's no harm in trying.
I wouldn't worry about the small loss of oil hooking and unhooking the connectors, IMO it keeps those tiny ball bearings lubricated.
Nice fix GP. Shortly after I got my tractor it sprung a leak from the valve body. I thought something broke. Oil was flowing out pretty steadily. I called the dealership and they sent a mechanic out. The fitting that the quick connector connects to was loose.

I swear I began checking mine more regularly because of your videos. I was never down even a drop on hydraulic fluid or engine oil. But I'm now in the habit of checking it more often. Cheers.
