I have just voted in the UK 2024 general election. My polling station was literally a 5 minute stroll from my home, I walked straight in and cast my vote. Polling stations are open from 7am - 10pm, no variations, no exceptions. No matter where I lived or worked, it would have been pretty much the same... because democracy doesn't come cheap.
In the USA, anything that consumes tax dollars locally is done as cheaply as possible. If this means a voter journey by abysmal public transport... so be it. If it means restricted voting hours... hard luck. If you have to use your lunch break or stand in a queue for hours... welcome to American democracy.
America is a Republic.
In a Democracy we can vote Women can't vote. Blacks can't own cars. Whites can't own guns.
In a Republic, The Almighty, the Creator gives us rights that can't be voted away.

The average low middle class to mid lower class individuals intending to vote for Trump actually do believe they are doing exactly what you describe, Tom. Unfortunately Democrats also feel the same. The truth is that neither party in America is free from corporate influence at the highest of levels. The same corporations give to both sides of the isle because it ensures they achieve their desired results. It is an issue that will never be resolved until the entire American two party system is destroyed and remade from the ground up and bars any private funds.

The harm they cause is by virtue of their ability to bribe politicians and political parties through limited donations, unlimited PAC spending, and lobbyists.
Caring about the outcome and the harm is simply the attempt to plug holes in a sinking ship. We ought not leave the dock in a ship with 535 gaping holes in it, rather seal up every single problem area by abolishing corporate money in politics all together. It seems a fool's errand to try and root out the corruption and influence peddling after it has occurred and the damage done, instead simply remove the ability to do so all together. There is simply no benefit to the American people to allow corporations the ability to manipulate the entirety of the government. That leads to easily preventable issues, like the false inflation the US has luckily been pulling out of recently.
This occurred when companies were already raking in record profits, but when wages spiked higher due to demand every major company in America went ahead and hiked their prices on all their goods with real estate companies being the worst offenders. This was obvious price gouging and much of that was brought about by what would have been immediately recognized as monopolies 60+ years ago. Instead no politicians wouldn't say a thing because their hands are deep in these corporations pockets. It has caused massive harm to the average American family, but is hand waived away and blamed on inflation. That's not how inflation works, this was simple price gouging and collusion with 535 members of congress being complicit with what was occurring. There is no way to fix that issue after it has occurred. You can't give back the billions of dollars American families lost during that time to pay higher rates for housing and every single consumer product on the market. It is only preventing that corruption from occurring in the first place that would actually solve the issue.

It would be great to see SSI, Medicare and Medicaid be declared illegal and end all the systems leaving old people on the streets and declining rents would be great for low paid workers.
I sure am glad that in 2010 Citizens United Decision gave full personhood to corporations personhood and the right to spend profits on political free speech. A corporation is entity designed to protect and conceal the owners from all accountably while maximizing profits and minimizing taxes. Nothing to see there. Those girls might have been underage in 2004, but they would be of age by the time the 2016 Presidential election occurred, therefore this was just campaigning. Campaigning is seen as a required portion of running for office, therefore making it an official action. Being an official action means it simply couldn't be a crime, thanks to our very honorable Supreme Court justices, especially Thomas and Alito. They, in fact, believe that this is admirable of the former and future president to get such young girls engaged in the political process. God bless America and happy 4th of July.

Should it come to it and Trump does somehow actually get re-elected, there are enough veterans, and quite a number of civilians, versed in UW that will make life extremely difficult for the régime that Mr. Roberts and his associates envision. The first obstacle they would have to overcome is the military does not have to execute an illegal or immoral order. This is not an advocacy for violence, but an objective observation of fact. I do not believe Trump will be re-elected, but contingencies must be on hand.
