    Someone else may have mentioned this but if you hold the knife by the stove and pull the rod back, as opposed to striking the rod with the fast moving knife, you get the same spark but exactly where you want it and without the danger of taking out the stove in the process.

    it's by far the best backpacking stove I have ever had, i like it a lot better than my Jet boil and Windburner, well worth the $250 price tag.

      I've been pretty pleased with it. Especially for us because we hike as a couple so we need to boil water for coffee and breakfast for two!

    Back before the Reactor came out, When you were mountaineering, you'd see all sorts of different white gas stoves being used up at altitude. Nowadays.. All you really see are people using Reactors to melt snow and boil water. They are light and fast. I have two and I never really use any of my white gas stoves anymore. Going to any third world climb, I would bring a white gas stove, because finding fuel canisters can be a major pain in the ass when you are traveling.

      Agreed. I find they slow up big time too in the cold.

    Looks like a great system. I use the Jetboil Minimo. I got it through a reward system at work and I like it a lot. I also carry a small twig stove as a back up. Thanks for sharing,!

      Lone Crow Adventures I decided not to. I have a Kelly Kettle to boil water. I might get the pocket rocket for cooking.

    • @LoneCrowAdventures
      @LoneCrowAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The pocket rocket is a great reliable stove. I've used it several times in the backcountry. It has a similar boil time to the reactor, it just uses fuel a little faster. The pocket rocket gets 16L of boil of a 4oz canister versus the reactor's 22L. Good luck!

    It shines at cooking or sustained cooking in a fire....the cells/insert is for on the fly.......1 cell will get app 20 ounces of water to agitated bubbles hot enough for pouch meals or coffee......

    • @LoneCrowAdventures
      @LoneCrowAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd be a little worried if I was using it to boil water to kill bacteria but I have a gravity filter for that. It beats out on other backpacking stoves for people interested in cooking meals. The reactor and pocket rocket will just burn your food. They build water and don't do much else. So this is a nice change for different styles. Even for car camping. We've gone to campgrounds with no grill so this would be a good option to use a cooktop right in the fire!

      @@LoneCrowAdventures you can get adapters for around $10. My question is will lp work with these catalytic style burners? Thinking of getting a windburner but don't want one if it won't work. Lp works in colder temperatures when butane fails so it's worth having the ability if it works. Haven't saw any videos with people trying it with these particular burners though. Would be good with car camping as well.
