I’m waiting on the Ranger body to frame re assembly with all the brake lines, fuel lines, steering column, electrical harness. Etc. I’m doing the same to a 1990 Bronco II.

To clean up aluminum cases and such, I really like soda blasting. It cleans without being abrasive. You could start with a cheap siphon blaster, or go with a dedicated soda machine. For just cleaning the siphon blaster will work. For media, you just go to a farm supply store like Tractor Supply and get a 50 lb bag of sodium bi-carb. It is used as a buffer in livestock feed.
I can definitely appreciate your aircraft maintenance attention to detail. It’s engrained in every maintenance AFSC. Embrace it & screw those that can’t appreciate methodical r&r.

Also, I dig edits where one conversation topic is continued during different tasks over the course of time. Kind of like in movies where they plan a heist. Or in the movie Hot Rod when they were planning the fundraiser event while at work. Real life is like that too where sometimes you have to pick up a conversation after an interruption.

Sarah, apologies if the video just does not show it right as I know you are an engineer with a serious bit of experience, but you are not supposed to have the sway bar bolted to the frame so snug that it will not move in the bushing at all. It has to be snug enough so that you cannot turn it by hand but not so hard that the suspension move would not be able to twist it in the bushings. That is also why the polyurethane or delrin bushings have to be lubed with the correct lube.
It is the torsion of the whole bar, end to end, that is the working with the suspension. Not just the bit between the hub and the mounting point.
I am otherwise a fan of your struggles and happy to watch your long and successful road to results. You are a beacon of robust quality in a world of half-cooked instant satisfaction.
Gotta say your attention to detail is impeccable. I hope the eventual (lucky) recipient of the TT keeps it in such pristine shape.

Even as a disabled person, I try to keep my 2017 Fusion always looking like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Having it ceramic coated when I first bought it definitely helps. Great video as always! ♿️
This was painful to watch. I can't imagine the amount of work to remove the engine and transmission and remove all of the dirt. Then put everything back on. Impressive Sarah!

The car looks great, a huge improvement over where it was, dont be so hard on yourself. And to possibly help with the mosquito problem, they make screens for garage doors that have magnetic closures in the middle, makes it much harder for things like biting and stinging insects to come in while your working. Course you would want to put them on some form of rail so you can open them fully to allow for cars to pass through. Even harbor freight sells them.
It was a success, I laughed so hard I was crying! Your videos are so much fun to watch.
The funny thing about this is I thought I was weird for wanting to pull the engine in my car just to "Paint" it but I guess I'm not the only "WEIRD" Person out there!
The only weird people are the ones who think that they are normal. LOL. 8>)

Hey Sarah, being from central Pa. and not only do they use road salt they also use frack water (uber salt laden).
My last 4 cars had NO additional if any rust upon trading them than they had when i aquired them. There are car washes that power spray underneath when entering. They are open during all but the coldest days (sub zero). Once every 3 weeks worked for de-salting and rust prevention.
It just take a plan 😉.

Here in Denmark the roads are salted so often during the (very wet) winter half of the year, that almost all cars are given additional rust protection by their owners several times during the car's lifetime. Otherwise even premium cars will have severe rust damage after only a couple of years on the road, while cheaper cars might be total write offs if not protected.
If it makes you feel better we’re going down to 10c (50f) overnight here in Montréal
Once you get a new pressure washer, you should look into an undercarriage sprayer/water broom attachment. I drive on salty roads and I SWEAR by mine. It's basically just a bar on two wheels with nozzels pointing straight up so you can roll it underneath but it's lifesaver getting under cars.
If I won this car I would have to carry on the cleanliness tradition. This gal is busting her ass getting this car back into shape. I’d have to keep it fresh!

As fun as it would be to drive a car like this, especially with all the upgrades, I'm not going to try to win it since New England winters would just destroy it. And there's no way I could keep it even 1/10th as clean as it's going to be when it's done. I hope whoever does win it truly appreciates all the work you've put into it and does their best to keep it spotless.

Sarah, you're confirming how yanking the engine and drivetrain out is the only way to do a decent cleaning on the engine bay and underside. Did a stellar job, and there has got to be two or three dozen hours not on the final cut to get things as clean as they are. Now... that transmission... back when I had to swap one into a prior mk4 Jetta, I had access at work, to a hot tank washer (that could fit six 55ga drums inside). Put my new to the car donor transmission in it for about 15-20 minutes while I was hosing down the shop at the end of the day, and it got as clean as a whistle. Or, at least, degreased and as cleaner than pressure washing or hand-cleaning. Those transmissions are really, REALLY hard to clean up well any other way.
Whiteline says they have greaseless bushings too. One year later and they’re squeaking.
We need a fund raiser to get Sarah one of those dry ice cleaners Tavarish had for Christmas or other appropriate holliday.
And some clamps / big vise grips.
They injected that wax in my VW. I live in FL, so when it would get hot in the summer, that stuff would ooze out the bottom of the doors.
